It can be a problem with the hole at the spray bar on this engines. On my engine it was to small, so it does not get enough fuel at full throttle. You notice it when you try to turn the main needle out when you have full throttle, but it does not help.

Was ASP and Magnum always the same company or was there a merger at some point?

All I can say for 70% certainty is that the engines were manufactured in the same physical plant. I believe the two companies existed as different entities.

Mid 80's I had the ASP .61 ABC "Blackhead", went like stink with a OPS Tuned Pipe on it. NB: DUMP the ASP Carb ! Nothing but TROUBLE !!!

I had zero issues with the carb on this engine, as with other ASP engines I have owned. Granted the quality control of ASP engines is not the same as that of OS or other high end manufacturers. I have been fortunate to get some good ones. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6SngZ-klrJqrqcsi=FrWzHtEy33UBZB6a
