Featuring Bill Browder, CEO of Hermitage Capital Management, discussing his new book Red Notice: A True Story of High Finance, Murder, and One Man's Fight for Justice.
About the Book:
A real-life political thriller about an American financier in the Wild East of Russia, the murder of his principled young tax attorney, and his dangerous mission to expose the Kremlin’s corruption.
Bill Browder’s journey started on the South Side of Chicago and moved through Stanford Business School to the dog-eat-dog world of hedge fund investing in the 1990s. It continued in Moscow, where Browder made his fortune heading the largest investment fund in Russia after the Soviet Union’s collapse. But when he exposed the corrupt oligarchs who were robbing the companies in which he was investing, Vladimir Putin turned on him and, in 2005, had him expelled from Russia.
In 2007, a group of law enforcement officers raided Browder’s offices in Moscow and stole $230 million of taxes that his fund’s companies had paid to the Russian government. Browder’s attorney Sergei Magnitsky investigated the incident and uncovered a sprawling criminal enterprise. A month after Sergei testified against the officials involved, he was arrested and thrown into pre-trial detention, where he was tortured for a year. On November 16, 2009, he was led to an isolation chamber, handcuffed to a bedrail, and beaten to death by eight guards in full riot gear.
Browder glimpsed the heart of darkness, and it transformed his life: he embarked on an unrelenting quest for justice in Sergei’s name, exposing the towering cover-up that leads right up to Putin. A financial caper, a crime thriller, and a political crusade, Red Notice is the story of one man taking on overpowering odds to change the world.

Loved this book. Learned so much about so many aspects of life and people. Made me cry for Sergei Magnitsky and his family and for humanity, but feel hope. Hope Bill B stays safe forever!

Was Browder was also exploiting the post-Soviet Union situation? Maybe, but the point is: he was there, he alerted the Western press to Putin's thuggery, and he exposed the top-to-bottom theft that has consumed Russia's economy. Americans are completely naive to think of trusting Russia.

Browder alerted the West to “Putin’s thuggery”, one man? It would be a great strategy if he was convicted of tax evasion and wanted political cover to prevent his extradiction? But no one is that deceptive, especially not Bill, but maybe Putin of course? m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXPNgGOKfsdqptk

It's obvious that Bill Browser is sincere and really heartfelt about what befell Sergei Magnitski...a truly heroic man who would not how down to a despot as Putin. Bill Browder made a courageous vow to bring Putin down and we should all do our part to help make this happen...The stakes are too big for failure.

This interview is very interesting. and places Putin in the right corner. I said the first day I heard about Putin that he is a criminal, and couldn't understand politicians who praised him. *But why so bad sound quality in this video?*

Question, why do you believe Browder about Putin? Browder never met Putin, he hasn't been in Russia since 2005, Magnitsky was never a lawyer, he was Browder's tax accountant since 1997, who was arrested because Browder didn't pay fines and back taxes of $40 million. He would have been released if Browder had paid, instead he took his money out of Russia and left Magnitsky holding the bag. Browder has been convicted twice on massive tax fraud in Russia, don't you think that could me a motive to denigrate Putin and Russia? Who else would have a motive to kill an accountant, perhaps a client who didn't want him to talk. Look at the rest of the comments, word is spreading that Browder is a fraud and a con-artist, willing to risk World Peace, to keep his lying ass out of jail. Watch Browder under oath in New York from April 2015 kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXPNgGOKfsdqptk By the way, does this look like an evil, hated dictator who kills his own people? kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZKtpKJvltWmZ5Y

All these comments are so polarized, do people who call this guy a lying pig believe that corruption doesn't exist in Russia, and do the people defending him not see that he was taking advantage of the post soviet privitization in the 90s??? are there no people who see that the truth lies in the middle somewhere??
