Great job with the video and beautiful looking skies as well. That section of I-94 between the airport and River Rouge is probably my favorite section of I-94 in the state. Awesome timing with catching the Second Avenue bridge at 3:14 too. It's going to be the state's first network tied-arch bridge. If you were in the area month earlier, MDOT had set up a viewing area at the top of the adjacent Wayne State University parking deck to allow people to see the Contractor walk the entire structure across the freeway as the frame and girders were assembled off-site at the nearby parking lot.

I really lucked out with the weather. I thought it was going to be a rain out, the storm hit when I was driving northerly along I-75 about halfway north of Detroit and Toledo. Is the current I-94 freeway closure related to the network tied-arch bridge, or is that for a different reason?
@EdwardW982 жыл бұрын
@@AsphaltPlanet1 @Asphalt Planet We've had weekend freeway closures on I-94 for almost every other weekend now it seems. They've been closing the freeway mainly for the bridge work on the I-94 Modernization Project. The freeway was closed again about a week ago to monitor the bridge while they were post-tensioning the cables. MDOT is also utilizing the freeway closures to inspect other deteriorating bridges that might not last until its scheduled reconstructing date. Not an ideal time to drive I-94 but will be exciting to see the finished product in a few years once they finally start doing the road portion after the bridge work.

The stabilization on your camera is amazing! That two lane section going north, is a total suspension/tire trashing hot mess. Especially where the drainage grates are in the right lane. Couldn't even see bounce lol!

I wonder what will happen to the Ambassador Bridge once the Gordie Howe bridge is completed. I'm hoping one side demolishes the access ramps so that the Moroun Oligarch's cash flow is finally cut off.
@AsphaltPlanet12 жыл бұрын
It'll be interesting to see what ends up happening, the Ambassador Bridge should be reaching the end of its service life and will eventually need to be replaced. The Ambassador Bridge Company had at one time secured the permits to build a replacement span, but the permit on the Canadian side (at least) has expired: windsorstar.com/news/local-news/ambassador-bridges-twin-span-appears-dead-with-permit-poised-to-expire

@@AsphaltPlanet1 Not really. Europe has a greater density of freeways for the most part. There's no interstate between Fort Wayne and Chicago, Fort Wayne and Toledo, Toledo and Columbus, and countless other obvious corridors that should have an interstate-quality connection between them.

@@AsphaltPlanet1 Yes, and I believe it was in 2007 when Michigan upped their urban speed limits to 70 MPH. So the entirety of I-696, I-275 are 70 MPH interstates. I-75 turns to a 70 MPH speed limit starting at the point where you merged from I-94, and south of downtown it is 70 starting at the River Rouge Bridge. I-96 spends most of its time at 70 MPH except between downtown and I-94. I've always found it one of the greatest joys about driving there (among many other reasons).
