Toronto Freeways - Niagara Falls to Markham - QEW, Highway 403 and 407 ETR - August, 2021

Drivelapse video of several southern Ontario freeways starting from the Queen Elizabeth Way in Niagara Falls, and heading northerly around Lake Ontario through St. Catharines, Hamilton, and Burlington before following the 407 and 403 through Halton Region, Mississauga, Vaughan before finally terminating in Markham.

1:31 The first diamond diverging interchange (DDI) in Ontario is taking shape. There are only two others operational in Canada at the time this comment is written.

The government should cancel the toll of 407

Unfortunately they can’t. They contracted out the 407 to a private company in the late 90’s for 99 years, so the government will get back ownership in 2097! Fortunately they haven’t made that same stupid mistake again!

I think removing or cancelling tolls of the 407 is a bad idea. It would've been better to make tolls fair and not to high like CA$50.00.

Great. Another video in Southern Ontario/Golden Horseshoe again. Back in previous year's August, you encircled Lake Ontario counterclockwise and used the 407 to pay high tolls and QEW by the time you visit the Niagara Region and I enjoyed that video. This is the next part as you leave the Niagara Region and head back to the GTA by encircling the lake clockwise and used the QEW, and the 407 to pay high tolls again, but you additionally took the 403 and 410 through Mississauga which is a nice catch on the video to see Mississauga's skyline again.

I'm excited to hear about the twinning of the skyway. I wonder if the twinned structure is going to look like the original or maybe another Burlington Bay Skyway situation? Great timing with the video as well! I'm planning on taking a quick trip to Markham this weekend if all goes as planned. Haven't visited since pre-covid days

I don’t think they have decided on a final design for the twinned bridge. It will however have a slightly different alignment to the current structure. I guess the curve on the eastern side of the span is too sharp for modern standards so the twinned bridge is going to bow out to the north with a more gradual curve. Should look pretty neat once it’s done. Have a safe trip if you do end up crossing the river this weekend.

Highway 407 is by far the best highway in Ontario, minus the tolls

Great drive! Have you heard Fall Line Freeway (Georgia State Route 540) in Georgia that span across the state from Columbus at the Alabama state line to Augusta? Even though this route is a "freeway", some section has a undivided 2-lane road.

The Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) is an oldie but a goodie 😀😀😀😀😀. Conversely, the Pennsylvania Turnpike is a very poorly-engineered, and a very-antiquated motorway.

Highway 7 is already 4 lanes between Peterborough and Highway 28 and is a four lane divided freeway with interchanges between Carleton Place and Ottawa.
