It is so nice hearing how aware Aspyn is of the Utah culture affecting girls, and I can tell she really wants to keep her daughters safe from that. I know Parker likely feels defensive of his own experience and that is why he is having a hard time admitting that his experience as a boy growing up in Utah is likely very different from the lives of most girls growing up in Utah. But it's just not the same experience, and Aspyn is right about that. It can be a harming environment even if you are not part of the specific community that is the big force in creating that culture because it is so prevalent and cannot be escaped there. I wish that guys were more willing to ask and learn about these differences rather than so quickly dismissing them if they did not experience it themselves.

As a girl who lives and grew up in Utah, I really appreciate Asypn “calling out” Parker on his lack of being affected by Utah culture. Utah culture/Mormon culture is all framed around men. To them, it’s probably pretty great, because as women, we are much more likely to be passive and accommodating to them.

I would like to see Parker filming the house tour in his way. I like the more real, raw style vlogs but that’s exactly what it is.. real life and if Parker wants to show something or put in the extra work he should be able to! I think everyone would appreciate the effort. If someone is passionate about something people feed off of that. Just like Oscar and how he films, he’s extra. People feed off that.

I think it’s a good idea for Parker to do the creative content for the house tour! You can tell he’s really passionate about it. Not saying that you will have to always do it for future Vlogs, I hear you Aspyn! Probably too much work but if Parker wants to do it once in a while…why not!? Thanks for sharing guys!

As a girl that grew up in that “culture” and did not really have it effect me, I STILL disagree with Parker. Even though you have your own standards of what your life is like being surrounded by the culture and judged for not behaving like them is very annoying and sometimes gets you left out of friend groups, or peoples parents just don’t want you hanging around their kids cuz you don’t share the same beliefs! It’s insane. So even though I stuck to what I believed in it definitely still sucked being in it as a girl cuz men simply aren’t held to the same standard.

Parker is a really great husband and father. He should be very proud. And Aspyn and him have a good partnership and balance it seems, which is so important. You both should be proud of the parents you are and partners you are to each other!

In terms of the video concept for the new house tour, I think Aspyn is right when it comes to youtube - casual vlogs perform better, BUT I agree with Parker, nicely filmed/highly produced short form content (tik toks) of a house is much more popular and would perform way better! So you defs should do both, because both styles will perform well on their respected social sites (youtube vs tik tok)

100% would LOVE to see both versions of the house tour 🥰 I definitely see both sides of this. It makes sense to not fix what’s not broken AND I wonder if also incorporating some of those more complicated videos would attract another type of audience and lead to more growth. Either way, I am just interested in both because I think it would be cool lol

As an ex-mormon living in Utah, I SO appreciate you being willing to share what it's like for so many of us in this culture. People who think that all is well in "zion" have just not personally experienced the unhealthy aspects of it like so many of us have. If you fit into all the cultural norms and expectations (cisgendered, heterosexual, able-bodied person that believes in and supports the patriarchy) then you might not have been harmed by it. Parker seems like a great guy and I appreciate his willingness to listen to what Aspyn was sharing. We still have a LONG way to go in this culture with trying to understand the experiences of others outside of the cultural norms, but I do appreciate this conversation. Love listens and Parker seems to be trying. :)

I’m a SAHM and my husband works 15 hour days working a blue collar job. And he still shows up for his family and cooks cleans puts the kids to bed and makes sure I’m all good as well. my mom recently became an empty nester and shared with me that she struggles with feeling empty because she lived for me and my siblings. i think it’s super important to have time for yourself of course your kids are small so it may be completely different or more complicated but don’t forget about your self care in the long run! now that we’re out of the house my mom gets to do stuff for herself but she has moments of sadness too.

Aspyn is 100% correct. If you are a young girl in Utah there is no way to avoid having issues with the Utah culture. Random ladies and girls will say judgmental things to you. I suppose there’s blatant sexism everywhere but Utah is different because it truly represents the majority and the norm. Same goes for many small towns and the South.

So glad Parker said that about dads. It should be offensive for people to assume dads can’t take care of their kids. That’s like saying they’re not parents! Let’s erase that narrative and expect all parents to parent. 👏🏽 best believe my husband will be able to fully take care of the baby we’re having in Feb. I totally agree with the age gap for the kids. My kids are 18 months apart and it has definitely taken a toll on me and my husband. It’s so tough. I know as they get older it will be easier, but she’s 2.5 years old and he’s 1. We are right in the thick of it. So I would agree that 3 years is a good age gap. Also, Most moms are with their kids for 40+ hours a week and most dads are working 40+ hours a week. My husband works from 4am-12:30pm and has an hour commute both ways, so he doesn’t get to spend as much time with our kids as we would like. He’s a phenomenal dad. He is so exhausted when he comes home, but he somehow musters up the strength to still play with our 2 year old and 1 year old until dinner and again after dinner. I was able to get the kids on a similar schedule to his so that when he is off work we all wake up around the same time and go to sleep at the same time. We do know a lot of dads that aren’t as involved with their kids. They play a lot of video games or go hang out with their friends alot.

Aspyn is so right about the way girls get treated when it comes to Mormonism. As someone who grew up in Gilbert, AZ, I wasn’t even raised Mormon but still was impacted by it because of how prevalent the LDS church is in that area. A lot of vets even say not to let your husband bring your pets in because they don’t know what’s going on. A lot of men (boys) don’t care to know (weaponized incompetence) and make their wife do everything. Parker is an anomaly but we need more men like him to be involved to change the expectations. Moms work too yet they’re expected to do everything, and dads are just expected to exist. You wouldn’t Believe how many dads don’t even know their kids birthdays. I have worked in the medical field for four years now and dads rarely know their kids birthdays.
