In canada my school doesn't offer many AP courses, only AP English 12 (which you can only take after you take your graduation required English 12 class first semester) and AP Psychology. I'm taking English 11, Chemistry 12, FI Family relations (FI means French immersion, I've been taking a majority of my classes in french since grade 1, in high school they don't offer as many FI courses) FI Pre calculus 11 and FILA 11 (advanced French language arts) ((you probably don't care but I love hearing about courses people take so I figured I'd pitch in))

In elementary-Middle school you do like basic classes like math science history and language arts. In middle school you also have different electives you can take. In high school you can't take all different classes but it depends on what school you go to you'll have to get a certain number of credits. When you go to college you take different classes to lead you to certain career you want to do in life for example a teacher lawyer anything like that. Hope that helped sorry if it didn't

Elementary and middle school is all the basics in each subject. High school is taking the basics a bit further and taking classes that will look good for colleges like AP or extra language/science/math classes. Then college is really dependent on the person. Usually a college will have some requirements like no matter what major you are you'll have to take a math, science, and English probably. But after you fulfill your requirements you can start taking specific classes for your major, and your major depends on what you want to do do a career. So as an English major, once I finish requirements, I take all English-relates classes. I think most other countries call this a literature degree. But then most college let you start as undecided and take what you want/do requirements until you decide. Most people do in knowing what they want to major in so they can get done with school as quickly as possible. Hope that helps in explaining things for you! :D

Ex: I'm a freshman. I'm taking math, science, English, culinary, Spanish, and marching band. the first 3 are required, the last 3 are of my choice. In college/university, you choose what you want to major in and take classes in that subject. If I want to be a musician, I will take a music class. but just like high school, I'll probably have to take necessary classes like math, English, etc. hope this helped! :)

I live in Australia and am in grade 10 (last year of high school!) I take 9 classes (6 compulsory and 3 choice) compulsory - english, maths, history, religion, science, health and pe, choice - sports for girls (another PE basically), introduction to sociology & psychology, science extended!
