Thanks for another great unboxing, Mike! I am a bit biased, as I have one of these boards sitting on my dining table waiting to be built. I think it has a great combination of features at a wonderful price point. Having USB 3.2 Gen 2 with type A and C connectors is a great feature. The CPU support list does say it supports the Ryzen 9 3950X CPU. With Precision boost overclocking in the BIOS, manual overclocking is less of a concern (don't tell Oletta I said that).

What would be your suggest for choosing a right motherboard in budget segment...?

If you want a 8/12 cores later on and you're 100% certain that you won't overclock, then it doesn't matter what board you use. They all support it. @@alikadhim3256 Try downloading thaiphoon burner and the DRAM calculator for Ryzen app. Thaiphoon can create an XMP file with the details of your memory chips, which the DRAM calculator can read, and it will output timings and voltages which are optimised for stability or performance on your particular RAM chips, or it will tell you if your memory chips will not be able to reach the frequency you've selected. DRAM chips sold on 3000MHz CL15 kits will often not be able to run at 3200MHz without loosening the timings to CL16, but it depends on the memory die type (e.g. Samsung B, Micron E, etc).

Same as most people: Choose between Steel legend and Tomahawk, have not the intention to overclock (but i hope it will take a good use of the precision boost) and i want in the future upgrade to 3700 or the X version (and also with not the intention to overclock) So what you think? will do any stock ryzen CPU for this motherboard?
@mikesunboxing4 жыл бұрын
Steel legend is awesome 😎
@talskatalska40074 жыл бұрын
But do you think it will be good for only stock speeds CPU,s? Anyway i have plenty of airflow (using now the GA A320M DS2) and have tested the VRM with Battlefield V ultra settings, it do not reach 70c so with the Steel legend i must be very safe.
@nathangamble1254 жыл бұрын
@@talskatalska4007 The 3700X wouldn't be ideal in this board - even if you don't manually overclock Zen 2, it will tend to run to its limits anyway - but the Steel legend wouldn't be bad either. If you don't care about the I/O features or the aesthetics of the Steel legend (or if you think the Tomahawk looks better) the Tomahawk would probably be the better choice, assuming the boards are similarly priced, but at a £20 difference it's questionable whether it would be worth it. It really depends on your total budget, and on the rest of your build: if your CPU would be bottlenecked anyway, there's not much point in paying extra for a better VRM. You could go for the MSI Gaming Plus (ATX or mATX), which has the same VRM as the Tomahawk (but with a worse VRM heat-sink) and is usually similarly priced to the Steel Legend (or even cheaper, in the case of the mATX version - but this only has 2 RAM slots, and lacks a lot of other I/O features). If you really just need a good VRM and 1 graphics card, and don't care about other features or I/O, you could even consider an ITX board - these tend to have better VRMs for their price due to lower material costs, and because they use integrated power stages, which are smaller, but also better than discrete mosfets (high-end X370/470/570 boards also use integrated power stages). ASRock Fatal1ty and MSI Gaming Plus are both decent (the VRMs are better than the ATX equivalents, because they use integrated power stages), but also usually more expensive, and lacking in other features.

look on the motherboard and see what the BIOS version is on the sticker, that will tell you what is supported if you cross reference it with the chip you want to use

Hi Mike, if I were to install the Ryzen 3rd gen CPU to the Asrock B450 steel legend, would I need a bios flash to make it work or install an older gen cpu? Or can I install the 3rd gen directly with no issue
@veerajjain69054 жыл бұрын
It depends, the newer stock of this mobo comes ryzen 3000 ready... but there is a possibility that where you buy it from sends out old stock and in that case you would need need a bios update. Also I bought mine off Newegg and it came 3000 ready! One more thing if by chance they send you old stock you can send your mobo to Asrock and they will update the bios for you for free! You can also “order” a bios update kit from AMD that is also free and that will get it to work!
