There's no islamic propaganda at all... i watched and it was quite neutral, and it makes me start to think "maybe Syria is better with Assad than without him" if you follow the example of other middle east countries that received massive USA intervention. Syria people will suffer? probably, but they need to stop following those islamic barbaric authorities and fundamentalists if they want to achieve peace. And the climate changing part is really important to dismantle those deniers bullshit. (ps: sorry for the bad english... it's not my native language)

Isobel Yeung is THE MOST BADASS investigative journalist ever! She's almost single handedly enlightened me from being a right wing conservative to a much more open minded, informed, and accepting of others. I definitely lean liberal politically now. I do find myself having to rewind the videos every now and then tho! Cuz I'm all mesmerized by her. Trump is the other (much bigger)reason that I've fled the Republican party and the conservative right.

That's a question not often asked during a Revolution. "Then what?" What happens after you depose your leader? Many rebel groups don't think that far ahead. This was something we saw in Egypt for after they deposed their leader an even worse group the Muslim Brotherhood was able to take power.

My friend from Damascus told me that even though Assad has done evil things, life with Assad as their leader was better than living in a war zone. I don't think the people agree with all of his actions(some absolutely horrible) but at least they can live their lives without the fear of being bombed every time they go to the market. What happens after Assad is removed? Who would be in charge? Ideally something democratic, but what if that is undermined, and group like isis takes control? I think these people just want stability even if it is under a ruler like Assad. I am not defending Assad or his actions, I am just trying to understand the different perspectives.

StrangeExistence I don't got any say, but I lime sharing my two cents. I'm glad that things seem peaceful with Assad under his control. But he can't be allowed to continue with having his atrocities. At least in a real world, he wouldn't.. I would hope that a Democratic movement takes control and the People take control. Not Jihadists. But people who just want to get the country to prosper again, and then deal with cultural differences peacefully later.

As for the Syria portion of VICE I couldn't help but think she kept trying to get the people to speak against Assad or the government in some form or another in wrong doings knowing if they say anything bad they could be jailed or killed. It bothered me that she knew the cost of them publicly speaking out against the regime for her "piece" yet she kept pushing and pushing on these obviously poor, scared, and displaced people. I think it would be fine if she reported what she saw etc...but to get these people to talk on camera is just bullshit. After she's done with her story she goes back to her safe western world and the Syrian people in her story are left to deal with what was horrible conditions. I love VICE programs but this upset me. Just my 2cents

Frank Nere, It was super selfish. Earlier in the video she is told by government minders that she was being watched like 1984/North Korea type of state. She wasnt even aware of being watched until two civilian clothed government agents stopped her. Then after all that she decides to ask two Syrian citizens on a nationally broadcasted t.v station about their take on their own oppressive government with a track record of human rights violations? That's pretty fucked up honestly.

That was the entire point of consistently pressing everybody to speak out, knowing they wouldn't, and featuring all the propaganda. That's the point she was allowing the audience to draw, without hamfisting it down your throat. If she just wanted to say that and be done with it, the piece could have been 5 minutes. That said, when she asks the citizens if they want to go on the record for an interview to answer some questions, she's obligated to inform them of the questions she'd ask and their content, so they're prepared and know to say the spiel that won't get them imprisoned or killed on camera. She also mentioned a few times "on the record," implying she had multiple conversations with citizens off the record without the cameras on, informing her reporting and investigating behind the scenes (a la, people almost certainly did speak out about Assad to her, but none of them were willing to go on the record and have the statements corroborated by their name, face, and location on international media, as is their right). My point is, VICE and HBO have proven themselves to be very responsible frontline journalists, and I'm quite confident that they presented the piece as they did with full awareness to the safety of their guests and all the others they interacted with off-the-record.

Sea level rising after an ice age has ended is normal. Global sea level rose by a total of more than 120 metres as the vast ice sheets of the last Ice Age melted back. This melt-back lasted from about 19,000 to about 6,000 years ago, meaning that the average rate of sea-level rise was roughly 1 metre per century. They're distorting these facts for their own interest. Just think if you wanted to get ahead in the market. A few genius thought of this GREEN idea and promoted the conspiracy around it - Investing in these so called GREEN Eco friendly products and promoting the masses to promote in this is a way to get a new hold in the market. The earth heating and cooling is a normal cycle and has happened many times. Thing go extinct and another creature establishes a niche and fills in the void. I do agree with pollution being an issue; but by argruing that humans alone are the cause of sea level rising is insane and started by people who were backed by personal interest. So, to another genius out there; Start a convincing conspiracy with natural earth cycles as your main argument. Get a hold of people with money to promote your idea and if you're lucky you and your investors could be the next mogul.

@@lordfarquad8474 yeah that's why 99% (or something very close) of scientists agree with climate change and Dr. Soon who said that climate change wasn't a problem was paid off by the oil companies. And that's why the oil companies pay millions of dollars each year to political candidates, right? Sounds like it's the other side selling out. And we are experiencing an enormous reduction in biodiversity. That's not a normal process of extinction

OK, so EVERYONE they talked to LIKED the government. They didn't even show anyone with a blurred face or anything saying the opposite. The simplest explanation is not some insane conspiracy that the Western educated president who champions a SECULAR state is actually a fundamentalist madman. The simplest explanation is that the Western media, which is controlled by a handful of corporations and billionaires is biased toward the goals of the US military industrial complex, which has so much lobbying power that the military budget uses up more than half of all discretionary spending, and spends more than the next 7 countries military budgets combined.

Vice you're ridiculous. Let's imagine for a moment that Russia invaded, let's say Mexico. Mexico becomes factions of different fighting groups vying for power. China begins to fund some of these factions, supplying them with weapons, logistics, and some direction. Now these factions begin to swarm into the United States, attacking the outskirts of major cities and becoming deeply embedded within cities. There are upwards of 2 million of these guerrilla fighters, and the number grows as people from around the world are incentivized to join and take part in this "Civil War". Obviously, geopolitically, there are many states that want to see the 'US regime' toppled. What does the 'US regime' do? Sit ideally by while their institutions of power become threatened by armed groups attempting to reconstruct the nature of them? Do you believe that the biggest military in the world, including the indiscriminate weapons they fight with would sit in hangers due to potential civilian casualties? The US military would destroy ever square inch of the cities, killing as many civilians necessary to regain control of necessary oil fields, and other important sectors. The US regime has displayed an incredibly reactionary and overly violent policy for the last 2 centuries, there would be no reason to think that human rights would play a role in regaining control. The United States intervention in Iraq has killed over a million people, and disrupted the stability in that region of the world. Other states have funded the groups that band together, and there are thousands, upon thousands of fighters that have been imported and exported around since the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, when the CIA and gulf states began to fund fighters to dismantle the little control Russia had over the country. Syria was home to the best healthcare of the Middle East which is universal to this day, and they continue to provide free higher education with stipulations of course. The United States sanctions in 2003 weren't imposed for no reason. What's the best way to topple a government? Make the people suffer. The United States have backed some of the most heinous and brutal dictators the modern world has seen. Look at Iran prior to 1979, Noriega, Pinochet, Saddam Hussein (the Iran-Iraq war was actually initiated by US foreign policy incentives), Suharto, Doe, Mubarak, the overthrow of the democratically elected Greek government post-WW2, and plenty of others. These governments were despicable with no inclinations to implement progressive policies. The Syrian government on the other hand, since switching to Dr Assad in 2000 has been under constant reconstruction to further implement progressive policies. Syria is not necessary a country with a plethora of resources, and their oil sector is a small part of their GDP. Exports and imports are crucial, and with the US sanctions, that irrevocably threw off the balance, and the government had refocus to continue their agenda.

Yet, not satisfied, because Assad is controlling Syria again, and hezbollah operates in syria as well

Broreale no, why would they be? before the civil war they had stability, even though Syria was still an enemy it was predictable and had a semblance of normality on the border. now they have an unstable border on the golan, with the potential for increased activity from hezbollah + iran right on the border to Israel.

Do you think Israel wants a stable front against them on the Golan heights? They have excellent security on the border, and isolated militants on the opposite side of a military cordon present very little threat. Syria was constantly quoted as an existential threat to Israel before 2011, however (which is an exaggeration, but the political importance of Syria's threat is more important than its actual military capabilities). Even with the rebels (mostly) defeated, there are so many actors still in play that the conflict is hardly over. Assad's reach over Syria is a patchwork. US-backed Kurdish rebels hold the entire northeast. Turkish soldiers are just hanging out on Syrian soil. Assad has held onto power through militias. The Russians complicate Syria being a straight Iranian proxy. Israel's pretty happy with that. It's better than before.

What the commander there said is true, the civilians of Darayya evacuated when the fighting there began, most of the time the place only had rebels on one side and soldiers in the other. That's one of the reasons the place was bombarbed with such intensity, whatever the government hit there it would be militants.

OK, so even if they're removing 8% of the co2 dissolved in their oil, that doesn't change the fact that the hydrocarbons that make up oil break down into co2 when they're burned in engines. The effect that has on the oil's environmental impact is most likely pretty negligible

He asked a good question, why do people get lung cancer when they don't smoke. I find it curious, smoking causes polycythemia, too many red blood cells and polycythemia induces lung cancer, lung cancer which is curiously indistinguishable from smoking induced lung cancer. Would/could it simply be the increased red blood cells?
