APRIL 2024, LONDON: #WikiLeaks editor Kristinn Hrafnsson speaks at a gathering in support of US-UK political prisoner and WikiLeaks founder Julian #Assange outside the High Commission of Australia in London on April 10. It is the eve of the fifth anniversary of Assange's incarceration in London's Belmarsh Prison.
***
JULIAN ASSANGE, the #WikiLeaks founder and US-UK political prisoner, is in his sixth year in near-solitary confinement in a 2 x 3-meter cell at the supermax prison known as Britain's Guantanamo. On April 11, 2019, shortly after he was illegally and forcibly removed by London police from the Embassy of Ecuador in London - where he had been granted asylum on Aug. 16, 2012 - Assange was sentenced to 50 weeks in Belmarsh for bail violation after resisting attempts by the UK and Swedish prosecution services to bring him to Sweden for questioning in a bogus rape-allegation case manufactured by Swedish police. Assange completed that excessive 50 week sentence more than four years ago, and has languished unconvicted and on remand at Belmarsh ever since, at the behest of the US State attempting to extradite him there for the war crimes WikiLeaks exposed.

Julian Assange is serving his sixth year on remand and without UK charge at London's high-security Belmarsh Prison, and faces extradition to the US for WikiLeaks' publication of that state's war crimes and malfeasance.
Assange has been incarcerated at Belmarsh since April 2019. He was dragged out of the Embassy of Ecuador by London's Metropolitan Police in violation of his asylum rights on April 11, 2019 and taken directly to Westminster Magistrates' Court, then to the prison, where he has languished ever since.
Charged with no crime in the UK, Assange is not serving a sentence. He is imprisoned on remand by UK authorities at the US's behest, in longterm solitary confinement and other verifiably torturous conditions (see "The Trial of Julian Assange," by former UN Special Rapporteur on Torture Nils Melzer).
More than 30 ex-CIA officials are on record admitting that the agency plotted to assassinate Assange during ex-head Mike Pompeo's tenure, when Assange was an asylee at London's Ecuadorian embassy.
Former UK Home Secretary Priti Patel, who green-lighted Assange's US extradition on June 17, 2022, hosted "good friend" Pompeo in London less than two weeks later.
Pompeo set the stage for the political and judicial persecution and smear campaign against Assange by the US, Swedish, Ecuadorian and UK authorities with his 2010 verbal rampage against WikiLeaks, a gaslighting exercise that facilitated the ongoing obfuscation of the countless US war crimes WikiLeaks exposed.

This is not as much a fight to free Julian as a fight against pure hate.
