Nor would any of it show how I have personally affected the lives of thousands, if not millions. Or yet another way, whoever the perpetrator of this supposed act is, it should not result in years and years, in one form or another, of confinement under a system of indecision and uncertainty, effectively leading to imprisonment without trial. Given that the UK already has a string of political prisoners and regular conviction of people for what they are assumed to have been thinking, the case of Assange should be seen as something that highlights our evermore dystopian system of control of some and grace-and-favour for others. Is it because Australia started out as a penal colony of the UK and therefore it's citizens never had any credibility? It's time to start putting some laws in place to protect your citizens. If Julian goes, the world will be a powder keg.

I am pleased that some Americans have a lot of sense... in the UK we are having our freedom of speech curtailed under a new law which was introduced (rather stupidly on April 1st) .. The British/Scottish author J K Rawling has invited the police to arrest her because she will not be silenced. Her views, which are echoed my the vast majority, are that despite surgery and/or hormone treatment if you were born male you will always be male, if you were born female you will always be female. Another British/Scottish author George Orwell wrote his famous novel "1984" as a warning and not as an instruction manual .
