I think it shows their likeness first (if the likeness and voice actors aren't the same). The looks of Desmond (and Altair and Ezio) were based on Francisco Randez, a model. His voice actor is the second guy.

Believe it or not, thats actually her name. Kaniehtio Horn is an actress from Kahnawake, which is a Mohawk reserve. Her mother is Mohawk and also a famous Native activist named Kahn-Tineta Horn, while her father is Scottish and German. Her mother and sisters all have traditional Mohawk names and I wouldnt be surprised if they named her character after her.
