@AverageAlien4 жыл бұрын
Right. I only got into the franchise recently. I am a rockstar fanboy. Only ever played Rockstar open worlds with the exception of a few games and black flag. But when I picked up AC origins it sparked up the historical side of me. Someone in the comments said AC has a little something for everyone. And I couldn't agree more. Obviously a game like red dead 2 is leagues ahead of any AC game. But AC has actually managed to peak my interest thanks to it's amazing historical accuracy and gameplay mechanics.
@theunbrokenlegion17094 жыл бұрын
Average Alien I get that. The very first game a I played was GTA: Vice City, and I met a bunch of good friends through GTA 5. But AC/Hitman style games caught my attention because of stealth mechanics and clever ways to complete levels. Those kinds of games drastically reward you for exploring the area before you attack
@AverageAlien4 жыл бұрын
@@theunbrokenlegion1709 True..The amount of freedom you get in missions is almost an opposite to the linear missions of rockstar games. @@J05TI everything dunkey said about ac series is pretty much valid. But the thing is after playing through all the AC games, there are so many fun gameplay and designs. The game still has fun but it's just loaded with mind boggling, boring ass gameplay. These days, I play AC because of the environment. The game at least attempt to recreate historical environment. Odyssey's open world was exciting. You get to fight mythical beasts which I only read in stories. Even in the dlc, I played through mind boggling, boring ass gameplay to explore Elysium and Atlantis and meet heroes I read about in mythologies in the underworld. Really there are great moments in this game. But with overloaded boring ass materials, I can understand why it's instantly a turn off. Still, I don't play any of series second time through because I would rather shoot myself. I can't imagine trying to grind in Odyssey a second time. @@anggaihza3074 Just waaay too much filler. But I think a problem outside of the game is that there are other stealth/action games with parkour/climbing, plenty of fun mechanics, but where AC fucks around doing a bunch of other shit to establish the plot for the next game to exist, plenty of other games with similar mechanics innovate and let you actually enjoy the core part of the game. They have mission after mission, sequence after sequence where it's just fun, figuring out the coolest way to complete tasks, which while you can do this in Assassin's Creed, you have to grind the story and bad missions to get to the fun stuff. AC2 was pretty good in this department because I liked Ezio and the characters are fun and human, at least when you are in the bed thing playing as Ezio they are and then even the boring parts aren't that nagging or bothersome. Anyway here is a short list of games with similar mechanics but more fun: Middle-earth: Shadow of War, The new Tomb Raider games, Aragami, Dishonored, Dying Light (kinda), pretty much all of the Hitman games, Uncharted, MGSV, Mirror's Edge, Sekiro, Ghost of Tsushima, Splinter Cell, Mark of the Ninja. Not all of them are exactly similar or absolute 10/10 winners of games but I feel that all of these are better than AC games but have similar gameplay and are definitely of the same genre.

The thing that makes these games decent is the work and detail that goes into the worlds. The team actually does some research and tries to present each setting as accurately as possible, so it's fun running around these ancient cities from history and jumping along buildings and stuff. But as soon as you sink your teeth into the actual story and missions, it's boring as hell every time.

Assassin's Creed is one of those franchises that I played as a kid because it was open world, had cool graphics and lets not lie, you would feel like a badass. Jumping on roofs, parkouring, it was really cool. But as I got older, I realised, holy shit these games are so damn boring. When you get older you lose some of that immersiveness and you cannot really get INTO the game as you used to before when you were younger, goofier, more naive, etc. I think many people can understand my point of view. I think these games are PERFECT for people who just got into video games and people still have that "kid" spirit. I'm not saying that people who enjoy these games are childish, I'm saying that you really have to be immersed into these games to enjoy them.

@JCDentonman3 жыл бұрын
i dont think it has anything to do with growing up, but it's more about how many other video games have you played. I started gaming like 5 years ago, Assassins creed 2 and 4 are sum of my very first singleplayer games. The first time i experienced both of them, i was obsessed. But overtime i was exposed to more and more video games both older and newer than these two. After replaying them recently, i quickly realized at how shallow and boring ac actually is. The mechanics are just extremely simple, the level designs are laughable, the gameplay while had a neat original idea is poorly executed and extremely repetitive, buggy and unpolished mess n and of course, trailing mission. I think assassin creed is the embodiment of everything wrong with a lot of modern games. Trailing missions, lack of challenge, repetitiveness, lack of polish and more. I've played older games like halo, half life 1 n 2, classic gta trilogy, mario 64 and i had so much more fun than all of the assassins creed, even the ezio trilogy. They were fun games for your first playthrough but they didnt age quite well
@solidsnaake30463 жыл бұрын
@@JCDentonman You make a great point, but what i had in mind with "growing up" was because i am so familiar with games at that point, newer games don't seem to do it for me, they kinda feel repetitive. I kinda just miss the feeling when you play games without knowing what the heck you're doing. There are some games that definitely hold up and some that don't, nostalgia is kinda the thing that really shifts and it often lies I guess at the end of the day, it's entirely subjective. You know why it reverted to an office sim for the present story? Bc ppl complained about having Desmond nd the present day storyline so they killed him off nd now they have half the game it used to be. The lore and the story is what made it so unique compared to other games. The newer games still have amazing moments and gameplay but I dont care about the characters anymore bc the point of the original games is that the animus showed the ancestors life and let you experience it, the characters had actual depth to them instead of the later games. I miss what the series had with Desmond and my favorite assassin, ezio auditore da Firenze. But I still enjoy the extra effects and gameplay mechanics each new ac brings. Hopefully at some point a samurai assassins creed in feudal Japan. But pls never bring multiplayer back.

Back when I was in my early twenties and didn't have a job, I marathoned several of the Assassins Creed games in a row. It was the Kenway Trilogy and Unity. As a teenager I was obsessed with the games and going into it again was exciting. But I ended up never wanting to play them again because it was all so TEDIOUS. Most of it was just collecting useless stuff and climbing viewpoints to collect more useless stuff on the map. The only actual thing of value in these games is the main story and a FEW of the side missions with occasionally good writing. For instance, AC3 has a few good (and one important) narrative homestead missions but most of them are the most trivial things. In its defense it does give the game more personality but the gameplay itself is really dull and boring. The combat looks cool as a beginner player but it becomes repetitive and effortless. Shadow of Mordor has a somewhat similar approach but the combat in that game is always fun and engaging. And once you have 100% completed these games there is absolutely nothing to go back to. After recently starting RDR2 and only getting 3 hours into it, I realized just how boring and lifeless the Assassin's Creed games really are. You are just marking useless objectives off the map and doing little else. It's a chore. Ubisoft games all feel like the bare minimum was applied. It's a big empty open world with a ton of useless collectibles and boring missions.
@Nooneishereonlyme Жыл бұрын
Well no you are very very very wrong. Assassins creed games are not tedious and the homestead missions in Assassins creed 3 are not trivial and it’s gameplay is not dull and boring and it’s combat is not repetitive and effortless and no assassins creed games are not boring and lifeless and it’s objectives and collectibles and stuffs are not useless and it’s open world is not empty and it’s missions are not boring. So I want to say that you are very very very wrong about assassins creed
@iwasanMBTInerd Жыл бұрын
@@Nooneishereonlyme You're not providing much of an argument by disagreeing with me. I do like some of these games but I have played and 100% them back to back multiple times. It DOES get tedious. They still do hold a special place in my heart for the story and characters, but you cannot tell me that the homestead mission where you wrangle pigs or break up a fight is meaningful or fun in anyway. Sure it adds some kindness to Connor and the homesteaders as characters, but from a game play perspective, it sucks. Same with half of Black Flag being tailing missions. You get exposition, but that's the entire purpose and it is too repetitive to feel fun after the first or second time. Compared to games like Red Dead with so much life and thought put into every little reaction, they are barebones. They do have nice easter eggs and the writing is good enough but the gameplay and NPCs feel like they lack something. The combat is "block, counter, repeat for chain kill". It looks cool but gets old fast and that's most of the combat. It's too easy and that's really the only pattern unless you use guns, knives, or darts. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy them from time to time, but they are objectively flawed with how repetitive the gameplay can be. They could have been even more.

So one thing I have to say A.C. offers that you don't get anywhere else is exploring historical cities. The architecture is usually well done and you get to explore real world locations at a defining time for them. (The Notre Dame was the best part of Unity.) Also sailing around shooting cannonballs at boats while your bois sing a shanty is a pretty uplifting experience.

I mean i liked the movie. It was fun, the tone was ominous, and i personally thought this animus was M U C H more interesting than the in game one. I liked the swapping of the combat where at ine moment he’s in the past, the other he’s in the present. The ending felt rushed, but he’s an assassin. Quiet takedowns are kinda their shtick, could have gone with a little more sword fighting tho, it feels like they ran outta money at the end

I found the parkour in Black Flag was truly awful. I haven't played AC3 but was it the same there? And did they fix the parkour at any point or do all the more recent games have the same floaty, unsatisfying movement? I found the parkour was fine up to Revelations, then lost all interest in the franchise after Black Flag was so disappointing
@aeroga23832 жыл бұрын

@RandomInternetStranger2 жыл бұрын
@@goodguykonrad3701 I know this is old, but the parkour in AC3 is actually surprisingly good, and definitely polished a whole lot more than its predecessor. While it is still a bit janky, and sometimes refuses to do what you tell it to, I came to like its "careful, yet chaotic," gritty style of movement quite a bit, and it's nearly the oposite feeling of Black Flag to me, feeling almost too heavy at times. For the most part, it's reliable and definitely fun, but its occasional strangeness of the parkour system or refusal to act under perfect order of the player's inputs noticeably hampers it when they happen, and in a game that so heavily relies upon player immersion to keep itself entertaining or even engaging, you'll definitely be a bit disappointed. The statement "I had more fun than I ever had before with this game when I activated cheats" sums it up pretty well, because it acts solely to take away the mechanics that hamper your enjoyment, like guard detection and lack of easy chain-kills. If you wanna move around the map really fast, almost nothing gets even slightly close to the efficiency of parkour, and racking up a few rooftop guards on your way without getting caught feels good. However, there's almost always some minor quirk of how the game handles your inputs that takes you out of immersion and into frustration. Mind you, this is a game where if an enemy aggros onto you even for a split second, you risk getting a reputation, which means all other guards are hostile to you until you pay literally like $5 to some town crier, or it'll force you into a long, usually very drawn out and stressful chase. In fact, they seemingly de-emphasized hay bales and other hiding places, which sucks, because it's pretty much the only way that you can quickly escape chases. Moreover, the whole reputation system calls into question "why did you even implement this in the first place, if all it does is hamper the main mechanic that people enjoy in your game and it's so easy to get rid of?" The only reason I mention this is because it *constantly* intertwines itself with, and hampers, the parkour actually being fun and efficient. Overall, the parkour is good feeling and properly weighted most of the time, and you feel much more like a cat that perfectly weighs every little movement than someone walking on fucking trampoline material like in Black Flag, but the weird snapping of the character's wrists when you grab onto a slightly different ledge, or interpolation (look up "interpolation definition in games" if you don't know what that is) to points that the game really wants to go to, break the immersion and feel overly forced. Highly recommend, but do keep in mind, it's imperfect enough to where you likely won't feel accomplished or like you had a ton of fun with the parkour alone. I recommend stealth assassinations to groups of enemies, as killing all of them before even one can initiate combat is incredibly challenging and fulfilling, and the air assassinations feel *superb.*

the only good trailing mission i can think of is in mass effect, where you have to secretly follow a politician from the rafters of a space station because someone's going to try and assassinate him and you want to catch them first. that one was fun because it wasn't just "walk in a line behind this dude" there were actually mechanics tied to it where you had to do things at certain points, and be observant of the environment, and there was actual tension. and you didnt have to walk slightly faster than the NPC and stop every 5 seconds.

I cant believe people still buy ubisoft games in 2024. In Canada, they have Star Wars Outlaws for 169.99 for the super digital edition of whatever, i cannot comprehend the sad level of gamer who spends that much, or even wants to play their crap, their souless crap.
@baverfjant3 ай бұрын
Paying those prices is stupid, yes. Unless you have a lot of money and it doesn't really matter to you. But you can often pick up Ubisoft titles for half price in a few months after release. And most of them are genuinely not bad, most of them are almost the definition of "mid", but some of them are actually quite good. If you can get Star Wars Outlaws for say $20 in a few months, it'll be well worth the money. It's far from a 10/10 GOTY, but it's a well-crafted world that's fun to explore and has a lot of neat moments. Far Cry 6 was really weak, especially story wise, but I got it for $15 and it still had the same Far Cry gameplay that's a bit of fun to mess around with and a beautiful environment to go with it. Feel like it's become really popular to shit on Ubisoft without having even tried their games. Skull and Bones was a fucking disaster that everyone could see from a mile away. But almost every other game before that and since have been acceptable, and a few like the latest Prince of Persia was pretty fucking sick.
