One thing that drives me crazy is people not thinking about the name 'assassins creed'. We do not necessarily have to play as assassins due to one of the key themes revolving around the creed itself. Each game we learn something new and unique about it. AC 1; we learn the most basic fundamentals/the three tenants and how to live by them. AC 2 is about discovering these themes and adopting them as a par of life. Ezio mirrored this in his personal story. Brotherhood allowed us to become a master of the creed at that point of Ezios comprehension. Revelations was where you become a teacher of it thus deepening our understanding further. AC 3 was about finding the creed itself from nothingness. Connor has to find what it means to be an assassin from a destroyed order. In a way AC IV was the most comprehensive exploration of the assassins creed as Edward slowly gained an understanding of it from a very selfish and isolated position. Sorry about the long analysis. Loved the video

I loved Black Flag. The setting. The gameplay. Edward's character. But almost most of all, I was impacted from the story of Edward's development. Watching him go from a greedy pirate to what he became after losing all the people he once called friends. And the dream sequence? Ugh Brilliant! I will never forget playing this game and how much I loved it.
@AndyGilleand6 жыл бұрын
Personally I'd never quite call Edward a greedy pirate. He puts on that appearance around the other pirates, because, well, that's what was socially acceptable in that group, but deep down, we see that everything he's doing, he's doing to try to provide for his wife and eventual family. Deep down what Edward cares about is freedom, the core value of the creed. He's an assassin at heart before he ever knows who they are. First he wants freedom for his family to live the life they deserve. Then he wants freedom from the oppressive british government and the poor working conditions. Then he wants freedom for his pirate friends to create their own government. Then he wants freedom for Adewale and other slaves, and eventually, he wants to make sure all of humanity can be free from the control of the Templars. But Edward is a fascinating character, and this is definitely one of, if not the best written story in the series, with one of the best cast of characters and actors, and some great music to go along with it too and a brilliant ending. It's a shame the modern day parts didn't live up to the historical aspect of the game, but ignoring those, it's my favorite game in the series.
@giovi11226 жыл бұрын
Andy Gilleand you know it didn't really occur to me that Edward's fight for freedom was present throughout his entire life story. I didn't think about the fight for freedom for his family and from the government, so thanks for bringing that up. It makes me appreciate Edward that much more. Looking back I see it now. I never knew how to argue against those that said that Edward wasn't a true assassin because I myself wasn't sure exactly what made sure he was. But now I'm certain that he is. In fact I now see that Edward fought the most for freedom than any other assassin in the series and is a great representation of the creed. So thanks for validating Edward's amazingness for me. As for the modern day parts, yeah it's a shame but fortunately it's merely a small dent that is overpowered by the rest of the game. I agree that it's my favourite in the series as well. Unfortunately, none of the other assassin's creed games have been able to recapture the feeling I got when playing black flag, still enjoyable and pretty good, even the ones most didn't like, but not the same. I haven't played origins yet though, what's your opinion on it so far? Keep up the great work!
@AndyGilleand6 жыл бұрын
giovi A I think Origins story is actually pretty good, but the gameplay and open world sort of gets in the way of the appreciation of that story on the first run. Now that I'm working on the movie I can appreciate the story and characters much better. Still doesn't touch AC4, but it's a solid entry. Ultimately what makes Origins a great game is the world. Beautiful, massive world with a ton of very unique locations. The story does suffer a bit too much from filler in the middle, and the exploration and side missions make that problem worse (but they're fun so kind of a good problem to have), but it's a better story than Unity and Syndicate (although Syndicate's modern day story beats Origins' for me). AC2 has a similar structure problem to Origins, but I think Origins handles it better, although the beginning and ending of AC2 are better. It's kind of hard to judge. I would say it has easily the best open world in the series, with some of the best visuals, but in terms of story, I'd probably put it around the average for the series, maybe slightly above average. I'm not a huge fan of the new combat system (it's less cinematic, after all) but I do respect why they did it, and I think a lot of people prefer the new style. I think it has the potential to be a lot of people's favorite game in the series, but that's more in terms of the world and gameplay than the story, and story is most important for me. My current ranking (Story+Game) is: 1. Black Flag 2. AC3 3. Brotherhood 4. Revelations 5. Origins 6. Syndicate 7. Rogue 8. Unity 9. AC2 10. Freedom Cry 11. Liberation 12. AC1
@giovi11226 жыл бұрын
Andy Gilleand Thanks! Origins does look like a beautiful game and I'm excited to play it though story is the most important thing for me too. Luckily I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to assassin's creed but I will always really miss Black Flag (sometimes I wish I could wipe my memory of it and relive it). I pretty much agree with your ranking. Especially AC1, a lot of people think of it very highly but I found it quite dull at times and wasn't that fond of Altair, although it did start it all which gives it some extra points. Good luck making your Origins movie, I can't imagine how much work that takes.
@AndyGilleand6 жыл бұрын
I think AC1 has a very strong core, all that philosophical stuff, but it's bundled in a very repetitive mission structure, mostly unengaging cutscenes, and some clunky gameplay. I appreciate it for what it did for the series, and the innovation it made in the gameplay, which was extremely different from anything in existence at the time, but it doesn't hold up all that well compared to the others. I've just started post production on my Origins movie, so it'll be a while yet still. Definitely the biggest game in the series, so it does take a lot of work.

I just finished playing this game, and I’m seriously in love. The gameplay, character development, plot, music, everything is phenomenal. And that ending? I’m in tears. I also got so upset when Mary and Blackbeard died. This may take the spot for my favorite AC game so far. I absolutely adore the Ezio trilogy (especially AC2 & AC: Brotherhood), but I haven’t gotten so invested and emotional from playing a video game in a long time. I think the reaction I had is definitely a testament to the storytelling of Black Flag. What a great game.

The thing I love so much about assassins creed is the small things. The way a character walks (in cutscenes mainly) is unique to each one. Ezio walked with just plain swag lol Connor was all straight forward and leaning forward and Edward kind of walks with one shoulder forward and arms swinging. Just like laid back but also badass. Perfect for each one. . Altair just walked like an assassin haha

I was confused about that scene with all of Kenway’s “friends” around the table. First off, Bonnet was not dead as far as I could remember. Vane was rotting away in the Jamaican prison, but also not dead and he betrayed Kenway (some friend). Rackham and Horningold also betrayed Kenway and Horningold was a Templar for petes sakes (with friends like these...). The only two I felt sorry for were James Kidd (Mary Reed) and Ed Thatch (Blackbeard), so I don’t share everyone else’s sympathy, sorry.
@AndyGilleand10 жыл бұрын
Julio Araque Bonnet was dead. In the scene when you sneak into the prison, you can hear guards talking about Bonnet being hanged recently for piracy. Charles Vane was executed in 1721, and the game ends in 1722, so by that time Vane was dead, even though you didn't see it happen, but he was executed at Port Royal shortly after you saw him in the prison.

I really enjoyed playing this game. Its actually the one that got me more into the series. It gets a lot of hate though. I don't know why. I think Edward is awesome and he's rather unique compared to most of the lot. Not to mention he's basically his own man before he even becomes an Assassin. Thats the real difference. For most Assassins the life is forced unto them due to someone elses actions, birth or some kind of means for revenge. Edward just kind of stumbles upon it. Which isn't to say he wasn't born to be an Assassin. I think he's potentially one of the best. He just has different motives than what people are used to. I also really enjoy the characters in this. Which comes with a good story of true brotherhood to boot. A brotherhood of pirates that soon comes to a bloody close but it also makes Edward a better man. By the end of the game Edward is a different person.
@AndyGilleand9 жыл бұрын
I honestly think he's one of the most well suited Assassins personally. Everything he does in this game, he does in the name of freedom, the core value behind the Assassins. He was an Assassin long before being given the title.

Epikial Goth Well kind of. I'm assuming since Haytham and Conner are related to Desmond and are descendants of Altair and Ezio then logically Edward is also. Its just for some reason Edwards family had no connections with them at that time. I mean i'm sure there are hundreds of descendants but they're not necessarily all Assassins; or rather they're not directly connected to the Assassin order. Another thing to note is that Desmond had to learn Eagle vision through the animus. So its possible that not all descendants know or have Eagle vision. Its possible Edward did but no one else in his direct family (parents or grandparents) before him did.

im not sure if anyone has noticed this, but when blackbeard dies, he doesnt say the lines that the actual Edward Thatch said, but rather, he says, "In a world without gold, we might've been heroes!" But these arent the lines that Blackbeard said before he dies. Now, i found an easter egg that i think most people havent found. During the point in the game story, when the pirates are looking for medicine, Thatch attackes a Brittish Galleon. Edward helps balckbeards crew fight some soldiers on shore, and then pilots blackbeards ship in pusuit of the Galleon. During the fight, when Blackbeards crew storms the Galleon, there is an Easter egg. In this awesome video, when edward is running across the masts during the attack, Blackbeard says "Damnation seiz my soul if i give you quarters!" These were the lines that the real Edward "Blackbeard" Thatch, said before he died...

Andy Gilleand don't stop making these, i know im way late on the comment, but i've probably watched this at least 500 times. love it still! I Love how in certain times, when i essentially "lose it all" i can watch this and realize i haven't lost nearly as much as Edward. AND some of the things i DID lose were worth losing..

Can I just say I love the way you slice together gameplay and cutscenes. It amazing as most of the time I want to see the story without having to see too much gameplay, or just the cutscenes. I was worried you'd only do cutscenes when I first started, but I've got to say, as a good fan of the Assassin's Creed universe, you do these games justice, even some of the "terrible" ones like Unity (who I personally don't really get why it's so bad, every game's got glitches and some bad story-telling.) Anyway, thanks for giving these games justice, and doing what you do.

Such a beautiful story! So Edward becomes an Assassin, his son a Templar and his grandson an Assassin again, but in the New World. 🤔 Such an intriguing family. I think this is the first time, given the previous game and this one, that we get to see three generations back to back and I like that continuation. Again, hats off to all those that worked at this video. To me it is obvious the tremendous amount of work that was put in making it. 💜

How can he have eagle vision if he is not related to any other assassins?
@AndyGilleand8 жыл бұрын
The only assassins in this series related to other assassins are Edward/Connor and Jacob/Evie, and Desmond was related to everyone up to Edward. But none of those other assassins are related to each other. Altair, Ezio, Connor/Edward, Arno, Shay, and Jacob/Evie all descended through different lines. Ezio wasn't related to Altair. Connor wasn't related to Ezio. Etc. The reason they have eagle vision is because they have first civilization blood in them. There were a lot of people left over after the first apocalypse that carried that blood, so many of the assassins throughout history also had that blood in them.

Sorry but I don't use subtitles. I don't want to force them on people who don't want them. I would do it with youtube CC system (which is optional) but it takes a very long time to transcribe every word and time it right.
@julio534810 жыл бұрын
Great job Andy, This is best AC4 movie out there. Most others are just the cut scenes stitched together, but unfortunately that does not really tell the whole story and you are left guessing what happened from one scene to the next. The only thing that would have made it perfect was if you would have turned on subtitles to make following the dialogue easier, especially when ppl insist on talking to you while running or with the foreign speech.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to making another AC movie again later this year / early next year when the new game comes out, which people say is going to be called AC Origins.
@dmfxc57 жыл бұрын
I heard about that. In anticipation of that release I tried going back and playing all the games again to re-familiarize myself with the story. After getting through AC and AC2, bypassing most of the extras, side quests and in-game economy to the extent of getting the best weapons, I realized it's still a big commitment for just getting caught up on the story itself. Which is why I appreciate what you've done here so much, especially in AC4 where there are sooo many side quests and things to distract you from the main story it's easy to forget how the story linearly played out. I got so distracted with unlocking the mayan armor and getting the ship upgraded that I would remember only small bits of the story along the way. Same thing happened to me with AC3, I wasted so much time syncing viewpoints for fast travel with Haytham, playing games and hunting; all for very little gain. Of course similar things happened in Unity and Syndicate as well but I was more conscious of it. Nevertheless I hear Origins will go through Egypt, Greece and early Roman republic, and I fully anticipate getting lost in everything that is going to be put in the colossal map ubi will create for it that I won't remember the early bits of the story. Anyway, your channel is helping me get caught up with what I missed in the story, esp with the modern story , in all these games. Bravo!

Wow, I had no memory of what happens past the the first few sequences. I noticed you cut the part where Kidd tests Edward on the sight, but he references it later, which was a little confusing. I appreciate trying to keep the length reasonable, but you do have to think carefully about how things connect before you cut them I love the spots where you sped up certain actions. It looks really natural. You should totally use that trick more often It's a little late now, but do you know how to do a double tool kill? Kenway combat can look really cinematic (and end really fast) if you know what you're doing. I suppose you could give it another go if you ever cover Aveline. Maybe you could stream an AC game of your choice sometime and I'll show you some advanced tactics. AC1 would be the most important to get the hang of for when you revisit it because you can cut the fights down to a quarter of their length by just staggering everyone and assassinating them, and you probably know everything in Brotherhood already, so that one wouldn't be very useful Did you have Edward use more parkour and vantage points after he became an Assassin? Because that's very clever. There's a glitch you can do in this to remove the swords, which not only makes his model look a little less bulky, but also makes it look like he gets more comfortable with the hidden blades and learns to fight with only those as he gets more comfortable with them. That's another way to have him use more Assassin tactics throughout his character progression Just finished. Man, this takes a long time to get interesting. What a disjointed, meandering story. The months and years-long time jumps don't help it convert to this format either. Maybe you could've put some more sailing footage in those, but I think it's long enough already. Black Flag is also the most dysfunctional, unpolished video game I have ever played, so thank you for jogging my memory now that I can't get through it anymore. Your videos were always a boon to me when I couldn't afford to follow an annualized franchise, and they are now that these games are far too long to remember the beginning of by the time you reach the end
