I much prefer big maps but the smaller maps of the older games fit the theme of Assassin's Creed better. However if a big map is utilized well, then I would prefer that over anything else. It's good that they're going for an Origins sized map since it's going to be easier filling the map with things to do, plus it felt a bit boring traversing Odyssey's and Valhalla's maps.

"Are you more of a big map person, or a small map person?" Depends on the quality of the game and the care put into the world. For example, Elden Ring was massive. Every time I thought I had the full map revealed, it'd open a new massive area. But I was totally there for it. Amazing experience through and through. Valhalla was too big for its own good, the gameplay wasn't varied enough nor was the side content rewarding enough to make the map worth exploring, it felt like a slog. Mirage was actually too small imo. It was great for the 30 hours it lasted but after that, there's nothing really to do. If Shadows has really quality gameplay with rewarding exploration, I'm totally in support of a massive map that I can get lost in for months.

12:25 Ise was actually one of the most remarkable regions in Japan at the time, as it's home to the Grand Shine (dedicated to Amaterasu, the head deity of the Shinto pantheon, whom you mentioned) - the holiest site in Shinto, as it houses one of Japan's three sacred treasures, a bronze mirror. The relation to Amaterasu is particularly relevant because, according to Japanese Imperial tradition, the Imperial Family descends directly from her. If I were to guess how Ubisoft would incorporate the region in the game, I'd say they could make it so the bronze mirror (one of the three treasures I mentioned) is a piece of Eden/Isu artefact, or possibly even something straight-up mythological DLC, in which the Grand Shrine could act as the bridge to the Takamagahara realm, ruled by Amaterasu, similar to how we had the Elysium in AC Odyssey. Either way, I do hope Ubisoft goes on to include Ise because it was one of the regions I was most excited to explore!

Instead of Osaka castle, I hope we got to see the Ishiyama Hongan-Ji
@jpazinho6 ай бұрын
Great summary, however, a couple of pointers: 1) "Osaka castle" existed to an extent at the time...as it was built (1583) within the site (and remains) of the monastery fortress of Ishiyama Hongan-ji (destroyed in 1580); 2) Himeji castle should be significantly different from what it is today...as it was expanded in 1581 and a couple of times after...before being demolished, and rebuilt (expanded) in 1600 to roughly its current dimensions... For me, my biggest concern is the map size claims that will meet AC: Origins size, but scale will be more representative of the locations size...the provinces on the map include a huge number of big settlements (both towns and cities), many historical relevant villages (case of Fukuchiyama we see on the trailer - there are several more important villages in tbe region), the post stations on the Nakasendo or Tokaido (played a major role in spionage and army movements back then), the religious complexes in the mountain ranges that should be in the game (e.g. Mount Koya or Mount Yoshino) etc... Given the amount of content, it feels to me hard to believe they would be able to fit all this content in a map the size of AC Origins and make it justice....
@matthewkendrick82806 ай бұрын
Big maps focus on two dimensions. ESPECIALLY when much of it is just water like black flag and odyssey, but Valhalla and Shadows are guilty of this too to some extent. Smaller maps give us the freedom of the third dimension, which black flag also delivers on despite having large waters because it has separate maps for dense cities. There’s nothing an Assassin needs more than freedom.

Open worlds are only fun if they are full of meaningful content. If you are spending most of your time just running from place to place with nothing going on then it is just boring.
