They were completely off about Marie Antoinette. She wasn't a callous noblewoman, quite the opposite. And she being Austrian, was not happy marrying into the French court. Her last name wasn't even 'Antoinette'. Not even her married name either. The French renamed her to make her less Germanic. Hers is actually a rather tragic story.

When the royalist tried to assassinate Napoleon at the last scene, it was 1800, yet, Napoleon was no longer a general by then but the first of Three Consuls that were forming the head of State before he became emperor of the French. I would recommend this game to anyone with a interest in the revolutionary era of france. Sure the game is average, but i enjoy it. The soundtracks are great, beautiful graphics, fun and challenging fighting, historically accurate to the extent of dramatisation and so forth. The story of the assassins is getting old, but the true experience is taking part and witnessing the revolution. It will be long untill we'll see such a setting in a game recreated with such beauty.
@simonwallichi8 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is a valid statement. The game borrows from history, as does the movie "300"; that does not imply it should stay true to life. As i said: "accurate to the extent of dramatization". The history level that Assassin's Creed teaches you is on par with something like the movie 300. As in very little. I know everyone here likes their vidya gaem and think history book=bad, but textbooks are overly detailed and monotonous for a reason - history itself is extremely complicated, expansive, convoluted, and, to top it all off, full of inaccuracies. You can't really distill the entirety of the French Revolution into a single medium. There are entire professions devoted to analyzing perhaps a small historical era or time period - historians, professors, archivists, just to name a few. Even then, it's very fickle, because unreliable narrators and a lack of written records are all too common in the field.

The thing is that the French Revolution wasn't like the American Revolution where the revolutionaries were "the good ones" this doesn't mean that the revolutionaries in the French rev were bad but this Revolution was such a mess that you can hardly point someone out that truly wanted equality, freedom and democracy, so in this context, making the assassins sponsor the Revolution, especially in the radical bloody periods, would make them see as "bad". However they were not against it either, according to the game they were more like in neutral positions, they wanted a change in the government but they didn't like the course that the Revolution was taking and the fact that the Templars were using it to raise to power.

Am I the only one who thinks if we had more of this in the actual story the story would’ve been so much more interesting? I feel like it falls into a similar trap as AC3 where it’s so focused on the assassin story the history is kinda just in the background.

I have to disagree on the last part. I'd say Assasins Creed 3 did a far better job than Unity at intergrating the story within the actual history

It's sad to think that they've now squandered their try at the French Revolution. It's such a rich and interesting setting and already has a story about fanaticism and how it can ruin great ideas integrated in it's history. It's also a relatively brief period of time, so you don't have to do a lot of time jumping. Ubisoft's integration of Templars and Assassin's was just lazy. I'm surprised Danton wasn't an Assassin...oh, but he did wield a sword...god I hate this game.

Don't like how the game sounds? switch it to French and play with subtitles. If you wan't accuracy most of these people wouldn't be speaking English to begin with so saying that accents would make it better doesn't make much sense.

One thing I could never really get my head around was whose side anybody was on. Like the guys in red with the V on their jackets. I wasted so many of those assholes and I could never really figure out what their deal was. In one mission they're revolutionaries, the next mission they're royalists. Same goes for the soldiers in the blue uniforms.
@Hawxaw9 жыл бұрын
+ChrisMathers3501 As was the nature of the French Revolution, it starts out black and white, then everything goes to shit and everyone is killing everyone.
@ChrisMathers35019 жыл бұрын
I knew *that* but it still made me wonder who was doing what when and why. Like all through the game the red guys are the revolutionaries, but in one or two levels they're staging a counterrevolution, and I have to kill them for that, and while we're fighting they're trying to kill me...for being a counterrevolutionary. I loved the story and all, but acid trips have made more sense than this. Heh. The funniest way to get everyone killing everyone is with berserk darts.
@Brandon210-q4n7 жыл бұрын
The Assassins were trying to have a moderate revolution; one without all the blood, violence and gore that Robespierre and Committee of Public Safety seemed so fond of, but were still intent on a revolution. Thus, they attacked the radicals and defended the moderates.
@placitum95096 жыл бұрын
Well. It's really complicated. The blues are the police/peacekeepers (early: marshals, later: National Guard) So always the current state force. (It's change a few times: (They can represent the monarchy, The National Assembly or the National Convention) The red ones are the radicals/extremists And yeah they can be revolutionaries, royalists, counterrevolutionaries even templars and commune soldiers. It depends the misson and the time period (which body is in power --> the reds always against them). It's kind of a lazy soulotion but I'm not sure, It would be better with ten different fraction.
