The Old Norse concept of fate was interesting. Some things were fated in the way we think of it, but they were made that way mostly in the past either by our own actions or luck. Every moment we exist we act on our fate, some is fixed, some is not fixed yet. The further in the future it is, the stronger we are, and the more we know; the more we can effect it. Your decision is if you check for an oncoming car before you cross the road. The fixed fate is if a car is coming to towards you or not, if you cross without looking. That third element, luck, is how good the driver's brakes are. It's actually kind of common sense when you explain it. Some things you can't change, some things you can, and external factors will always affect your fate.

This discussion is beyond moronic. Whether the devs get paid or not is the sole responsibility of their employers. They are employees who got hired to do a job. Same way covering and playing games is Jon's job, and how he does it is his responsibility. This game is a product. If you wanna own this product, buy it. This is one I really wanted to try it out after years of abstaining from Ubisoft in general but I'm not sure I will until a sale honestly. As for supporting the developers, buying the game doesn't really do that. They've already been paid, they don't get extra money if a game does well, only in rare cases do companies give out bonuses and such for that. The profits of the game go entirely to the usual suspects you'd expect, the people who didn't actually make the damn thing. Damn shame it works this way but that's the unfortunate reality. The developers are expendable and worthless in the eyes of the publisher, buying games to support their hard work doesn't do a whole lot when they'll probably be fired and replaced within a year anyway. I really hope more developers just abandon the AAA industry and form indie studios, it's nice being able to buy games in good conscience that the devs get proper pay and perhaps even more than that, that shithead CEO's don't suck up all the money for others actual work.

The developers are not going to be hurt by the game not selling well, as far as I know. That's because they are mostly contractors, and even the actual employees are mostly disposed every dev cycle like they are nothing. The companies chew and spit them out with nearly no cut of the sales of the game they helped create. Now, granted, I don't know how much of this applies to Ubisoft itself, but I'd say this is worth looking into if you feel like buying their games only because of the devs. My point is: be skeptical of the claim that buying the game does the devs any good. If the only reason to buy is to appreciate the work, then you can do the same by pirating the game and not giving the company that exploited them a cent. Again though, I am not claiming I know how Ubisoft work in this aspect, and you should do the research yourself.

No level system with immortal NPC and a map full of generic xp grind crap?! Yay! A "assassination always kills in 1 hit" option! yay! It warns "this is not how the game is meant to play"... dream on. That's exactly how a knife in the back should work in an AC game. Might not be the most unrepetetive game in history but a big step up from Odyssey AC mechanics wise.
@TheCloudeGraves
@TheCloudeGraves 3 жыл бұрын
Even the combat is vastly better than in any other AC title. I’ve honestly been doing what I thought was heresy in every other AC and pummeling in at full charge towards the baddies and having a blast at it. Vikings aesthetics suits that well but I expected it to, as always, pale in comparison to the stealth and stabby. Nah, this is the first time I’ve equally enjoyed both feels.

@@TheCloudeGraves Origins and Odyssey were already very actiony. I guess in the voking setting it makes sense. And the game is good (so far, apparently later drops off?!) . But for quite some time it has nothing to do with Assassin's Creed anymore.

Jon, thanks a lot for doing that bit at the beginning. It's important to acknowledge those things and a boycott is often the best response. Your reasoning on why to play this is very sound too and it's true that the people who worked on this game deserve to have that work rewarded, even as the management deserves to see their profits plummet. Thank you for talking about this, for bringing attention to this, and for going over your reasoning.

Sigurd brought back Assassins from Miklagard the norse name for Constantinople. There was actually a Norwegian king named Sigurd Jorsalfare whom was famously depicted traveling trough Constantinople on his pilgrimage to Jerusalem. His last name actually translates to Jerusalem traveler, this however would be two hundred years after what we see in this game. Also he had a brother whom shares my name Øystein.

Don't worry about a boycott hurting the developers. They most likely don't see any money from the game and all the money is going to Senior Management period more likely the majority of the development on this game was done by freelancers who were fired the moment the game was finished period And even if there are permanent staff members, they don't get royalties from games for the most part.

Stop fanboying for the rapey executives in the comments. Game has already sold enough for the devs to get their peanuts even if they weren't simply paid salary for work.
