This review was so well thought out. You articulated a lot of my thoughts in this, and opened my eyes to a few other notes as a non-English person. I really appreciate the perspective on the local history and timelines. I really enjoyed this game personally, as you said it’s easy to get into when you have downtime. What you said about the super condensed map and odd placement of some of the locations definitely applies to some of the other regions in this game....but I really appreciated the representation of other cultures and languages in the different regions.
@maplecoffee1080
@maplecoffee1080 3 жыл бұрын
Also to add, I have about 180 hours in the game and let’s just say....there’s one region close to my heart, that felt very shallow and has loads of potential. I hope they expand this region with some DLC to flesh it out and bring it more to life.

@@domiiinik4320 Sometimes a person's opinion is valid whether you agree with it or not. YOU might not think it's boring... and that's fine. I am genuinely pleased that people are enjoying it. But that doesn't mean that a person who thinks it is boring doesn't "...know how to play this game" Andy is by no means in the minority. @@KnightsArcade the game was just anti climatic for how much time you have to put in to it imo. It dragged on way longer than it needed to, and there isn’t really a structure to the games story; you pledge to a different shire and then something may happen with sigurd every third one you do, thats pretty much the game. And while I had some fun, it could’ve been condensed A LOT.

was looking for a decent review and the one that got me was this... and the ultimate review with 200 hours title. first time hearing about you and I'm glad I did. I watched the whole thing beginning to finish. I normally go for straight to the point reviews but there is something about this one that stood out. whether it was the humor, the knowledge base or even your pleasing voice lol....regardless the review was great. like some of the comments here, I may or may not pick up Valhalla right now but maybe in the future. origins and odyssey for me were pretty good ever since I left the series after black flag. but now I'm starting to get burnt out by these games again like from before. only reason why I left was it was like any other games like COD or WWE2k. just couldn't handle trying to play the almost the same game every year. like you mentioned the formula has changed over time and is a lot different than what it used to be. hopefully the next entry will go back to its roots, or maybe we'll actually get a full on eastern/asian period. chronicles doesn't count for me imo heh.

Thank you very much. I've been making "Ultimate Reviews" since 2018, when I decided to make a video which would convince people not to give up early on Kingdom Come: Deliverance, because I HATED it at first, and grew to love it. The title was to reflect the difference between these reviews and the kind you normally see, which have had between 10-30 hours put into them on average. It blew up, so I made more, but they take so long to make there are only 7 so far. lol I used to be a huge fan of the AC series, but it's gotten lost along the way somewhere, and they don't hold my attention the way they used to. Thanks for watching, and for the in-depth comment.

I do sometimes make "regular" reviews, where I only have about 20 hours in a game, but whenever one of my reviews says "Ultimate Review", it means I have at least 100 hours, or (in the case of games that simply don't have that much in them) as much as the game will allow me to do... sometimes several playthroughs.

I don't think a lot of main stream game venues have the budget to properly review a game like this -- they don't have the budget to give reviewers the time to play it, and then there's time constraints to get the review out in a certain period. I don't think they should attempt to finish it or be pressured -- that brings even more of a bias as they can't enjoy the side content or flow of the game within the time they have to review -- or even really enjoy the main content with the time pressure. But they should be open about what their time constraints/played was. It's something that us looking at the reviews need to keep in mind; don't see any practical way for that to change outside of introducing separate types of reviews like this channel.

I've been a huge fan of AC since the beginning, love the story behind it all and the lore. However it saddens me that Valhalla is the first AC game I've not even considered buying and will probably wait a while until it's cheap enough that I'm not losing out on much money IF I don't like it as much. Personally, I'm not liking the fact that these newer AC games are showing less and less of the whole Assassins Creed, as you've pointed out in this review, and these could now just be generic RPG's with no back story. Just my opinion, I'm sure others will not agree.

There was a time £40-60 would get you the entire game, all the bells and whistle's and extra bits and pieces.. though now they want £99+ ...Certainly one for a sale for me. It's currently 50% off with the Ultimate Edition at £50 + an additional 20% off for Black Friday.. taking it down to £40. Not all are bad, and as to RDR2, bored. I never finished it thanks to boredom, terrible bigs and glitches and literally I got AssCreed Odd on sale and made the mistake of trying it out, 150hrs later, had Zero desire to deal with the blandness of RDR2. Don’t get me wrong RDR2 was not all bad, but when entire cutscenes were destroyed by having 80% of the NPCs turn into invisible ghosts and having to restart the game and lose long stretches of progress thanks to the Train disappearing leaving me both on a Train and not on a train with no way to do anything accept close the game from the home screen.. yeah, no thanks. by blandness I mean huge empty areas with the same random things happening over and over. After seeing a guy get killed trying to shoe his horse for the 12th time, you really see the cracks in this overrated game world. Hell, I was even patient enough to give RDO a chance, but when your camp would disappear leaving you unable to complete missions, yeah fuck that shit. ACO had it’s share of meh side quests and some annoying and funny bugs, but I never had a crash and never lost progress. Never had my horse commit suicide like the ones in RDR2 did about 200 times. Too each his own, I found RDR2 far too unstable and far too overrated and over hyped by people pretending it had no flaws and was the best game ever. Also, despite it’s open world, that game is linear as fuck. People used to cry about linear games. Now they pretend open world means non linear. AC:Viking boys is supposed to be insanely linear right guys and gals? I wish there was a demo, I hear the combat is jank as hell and could overlook a lot of the bad if the combat is fun and entertaining but… yeah, even at $30 not going to risk it.

Some worlds are so massive and filled we detail I can’t help but appreciate the effort, thought and ingenuity that was used to make the player feel completely immersed in the world. For example whilst rdr2 was a truly immersive game, I was not a fan of the backdrop but you have to respect what has gone into these games. As a gamer I feel obliged to do everything I could aswell as really be in awe at what these guys have accomplished. For me, skyrim is king of them all. @@bunglebonks7399 Skyrim is a fantastic game, but a mediocre Elder Scrolls entry and an often bad RPG. Oblivion is the shining light of that series... Skyrim without mods is not nearly as replayable, interesting, role-playable, immersive or customizable as Oblivion and is of course littered with bugs. I didn't find myself doing multiple 100+ hour plays of Skyrim like I did with Oblivion and there's definitely legitimate reasons for that. @@dutchguy1807 Welcome to the club 😅 I did Odyssey on 100% and had a lot of fun with it so I decided to do the same with Valhalla. Valhalla wasn't as fun as Odyssey after about 50-60 hours because those side activities got boring really quickly but I just couldn't stop at one point. If my goal from the start was to 100% it, then I was going to do it. When I did it, I had about a year of break from this game and when I jumped back in to play DLCs, I quickly remembered again how tiresome it was to complete each area 😆 I still completed everything in Ireland, France and Svartalfheim (or whatever it was called) but I was so tired and bored while doing it. I realised then that these games are too long for 100%ing them and I wouldn't do it if the next AC was like this. I replayed Origins and now I'm replaying Odyssey and this time I promised to try to focus on the main story and side quests instead of clearing the whole map of these question marks. It's extremely tempting to do it in Odyssey though because almost every place there is really interesting but I won't give up on my promise. I do sometimes check some "?" on the way to mission but it's hard to get rid of all habits hah

This is the only AC game where stealth does not matter when going into forts or bandit camps. Just walk right in and kill all of them. Although it saved alot of time but the fear of being killed isn’t there for me in this AC so I don’t have to hide and stealth kill. I play on normal difficulty as the game suggests playing on tougher will mean i will just have to grind even more which will get boring really quick. AC Odyssey and Origins were also played on normal difficulty yet the fear of death was always there no matter how strong i got and the use of clever stealth was always important. Now its just walk in kill all loot all rinse and repeat.

Wonderful review! These games are a mixed bag. I tried going back and playing the original Assassin's Creed a year or so ago and found it boring and repetitive. The Ezio Saga is some of the best in the series with my favorite being Brotherhood. While combat and worlds have gotten better. I find that I only spent 22 hours with 17% completion in Origins and 110 hours with 63% completion in Odyssey before getting bored or distracted by other games. I saw some amazing gameplay of Valhalla a few days ago and it's on sale now. Which is what lead me to this review. I've been wondering if I should by it now or wait for the next sale.

I'm afraid I've been concentrating on my voiceover business, as the combination of Covid (lots of streamers deciding to become V/O artists, since they were stuck at home) followed by the rise of AI voices, has left voiceover artists in a very sorry state, and my business has gone form a full-time income to almost no income at all. So... I've been slowly trying to rebuild that, and if I can't... god only knows what I'm gonna do. For the first 10 hours the combat can feel really clumsy at parts, and the first boss fight made me go back to Odyssey. But as I got lost into the open world everything felt progressively more satisfying especially looting and combat. Not to mention the magical soundtrack that makes me feel like a badass. I found myself performing stun finishers every chance I got parrying arrows and axes while dual whielding heavy weapons and setting every foe on fire.

The last 3 games have been phenomenal. The knew open world style is brilliant, and theyve done a great job bringing the worlds to life. Ive put 100-150 hrs in each of the 3, and what i find so special is you can complete them much quicker if you want, or take forever., as opposed to the much more linear structure of the older games. The secret with these games is to play them the way you want, instead of what everyone else tells you is the "correct" way. Once you get in that mindset the experience is so much better in open world games.

The game is still kinda dull with a crappy gameplay loop and no build variety, just poking everything with a spear and skipping a lot of conversations to get that xp faster is what is recommended. It would have been okay with a Brit like Patrick Stewart or Benedict Cumberbatch... I mean Ian McDiarmid (who played Palpatine)... the problem with Prowse, was that he has a strong Bristol/West Country accent... we call it a "Wurzel" accent... so to Brits (who remember him as the "Green Cross Code man) he sounds like a West Country farmer, behind a menacing mask... and it takes away all the fear. 😆 We have a lot of different accents in this country, and they vary wildly. My native accent is referred to a "Dee Dar", because I'm originally from Sheffield. What you need is a Brit with a deep RP voice.

You know, I bought the gold edition for like $20 bucks and I think its amazing. I've had one bug in my 30-40 hours in and it was so small and insignificant that It wasn't even an issue. The main complaint is see is people say it's too long. You don't have to do every single little thing on the map. Just do the main quest-line. Too long would be Red Dead 2, which after playing exclusively the main story for 100 hours I still wasn't finished.
@KnightsArcade
@KnightsArcade 2 жыл бұрын
People keep misunderstanding the complaint of "This game is too long". I love a really long in-depth game, and I love doing sidequests. I don't care if the game take 1000 hours to complete. The problem with AC: Valhalla, is that it's far too thin to be worth putting in that time. So most people are bored LONG before the end, if they also want to do sidequests. The world is thin, uninteresting, and repetitive. The characters are lifeless and dull. That why so many people (like Lachy Mckenzie, who commented less than 24 hours after you did, and many, many others) complained that the game was too long. Not because they hate long games, but because this is a 20 hour game, which put on about 100 hours of excess weight. RDR2 is a gorgeous, lovingly-crafted, thriving, living, breathing world with a touching, heartfelt story, and characters who are believable and lifelike. Decent voice-acting and motion capture... superb story... incredibly immersive locations. That's why a game like that takes 9 years to make. Assassin's Creed throw out games waaaaay too often, and the result (inevitably) is lifeless and thin.

@@KnightsArcade Interesting lol. I actually got bored of Red Dead way earlier than with Valhalla. I get what you're saying and that's fair, but I just don't get that from the game. Like Red Dead got old really fast for me, but Valhalla hasn't. Also, it's not always the time in development as it is resources and bodies working on it, not to mention Rockstar overworked their people to the max.

True but why put all that crap on the map in the first place if you can just ignore it, think of the developers who spend that time just bloating out the game for no reason as everyone says "well you dont have to do it" look at all the cut content in games because it didnt fit or make it a better experience. They need to learn to just cut that shit and stop worrying about their game needing to take 100 hours to complete

@Veggietroll It just felt like it drug on and on and on. Right when I thought I'd finally reached the end, nope, another 30 hours left. After it looses its novelty it just sorta feels repetitive to me. All that said, I adore From Software games so maybe it just wasn't my style.

Bro one question, I can not decide between AC valhalla and FC 6 which one to buy since they are both on sale, I have played a lot of ubisoft games and I know roughly what awaits me, is FC 6 better, less repetitive and boring? I heard Valhalla is too long and boring, which one would you recommend I buy?

I'm afraid I haven't played Far Cry 6, so I can't be of much help there. All I can tell you is that I enjoyed Valhalla at first... but it drags out way too long for such "thin" content. Of course... that's only my opinion. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Late to the party i bought the game last week with every dlc at $30, im already 30 hours into it and i really like it i get that some people dont like the repetition or the flow of combat but that personally doesnt bother me also i choose the pathfinder exploration difficulty and disable the compass so i can only see dots and the markers if i use the crow and the view points and that has made the exploration extremely fun i really like the world events and enjoy the story and side missions still got a lot to do but im just letting the game come to me and explore at my pace instead of just pushing my self to complete every task at once, i also had to say that i was extremely tired about the old AC the stealth aproach so im bias because of the rpg elements and the viking era

I ve played them all - dlc's and spin offs included but not on release date so no rose tinted glasses: Best of all Black Flag, second best Odyssey and/or Brotherhood followed by Origins and/or Assassin's Creed 2. Valhalla then. And then the rest. ;-)

I love open world games where there are some collectibles (Witcher 3, days gone, AC1 - AC odyssey, far cry games, etc.) , but man, this game have too much that I got tired and stopped playing it.

After AC: Odyssey I was really looking forward to this one, shame it was such a cash grab... and the history, I know its a video game but if your gonna do a historical game and are a large game developer employ some experts rather than just go for LARPy fantasy vikings

Thank you for such an honest reivew, i can't stand the trend of calling a new assassin's creed game bad because it's not Unity 2.0 with amazing parkour and stealth, remove the "assassin's creed" title and these games are pretty good for what they are, Black flag is arguably the best pirate game, Odyssey is probably the best spartan game and Valhalla is probably the best viking themed game. Like or hate Ubisoft and they do deserve a lot of the hate, but you can't deny they craft some massive beautiful open world games.

There seem to be far more "game haters" and "dev haters" than I've ever known, these days. I think each game should be judged on its own merits or failures, not necessarily by who the developer is, or what a certain group of players expects from the next game. Ubisoft are rumoured to be involved with the upcoming Star Wars open-world game. I'll admit I'm nervous, but I'm curious to see what happens. Thanks for watching.
