Why did Baptiste join the Templars ? I don't understand. And this rite of all branches... These supporters of slavery... If only we didn't have to murder him, so I could understand better... I mean...the nobles can't exactly be called human after what they did to these people, from commercialization to abuse.

It's explained in the lore that he felt betrayed after the events of makandal's death, and blamed Agate. He created the cult afterwards and then joined the templars in hopes to get revenge against Agate
