My mother plays ork sluggas, shootas, big shootas and four nobs. Two with chain axes, two with klaws. Dad plays a few standard assault, one jetpack assault and a few bolters / one Wolf Priest. I have a group of skitarii / sicarian ruststalkers, a trio of techpriests and a pair of electro priests that we use to form our Kill Teams and play... well, Kill Team.

I vaguely remember that melee combat also has more ritualistic value and is therefore more effective in fighting daemons. Great video as always. You sum up the tragedy of being an Astartes who's entire being is focused towards warfare. The Salamanders craft exquisite weapons and armour, the Blood Angels paint to temper their fury while the Ultramarines study texts and procedures, but it's all in service of making them better warriors. For all their power, genius and potential longevity, they'll never be more than living weapons and I think it's sad that, for the most, they're at peace with that fate. So many deliciously macabre layers to digest.

I agree with Baldermort. The overwhelming armored assault have been the Iron 10ths core tactic since very early in the Great Crusade. The Flesh is weak, so bring a Big Metal Tank!

Out of the literal thousands of Chapters in modern 40k? Probably at least a few dozen. Including a few that are probably descended from Traitor stock. The Salamanders also have a preference for heavy armored assaults.

​@@Brutalyte616 Salamanders are great at that, especially against hordes of enemies. Imagine driving a Land Raider Redeemer loaded with Assault Centurions towards a mob of Orks. Most of the Orks will instantly be incinerated by the Redeemer's Flamestorm Cannons and Centurion Flamers, or gunned down with Hurricane Bolters and the Twin Assault Cannon. The few Orks who survive long enough to reach close combat will barely make a dent in the hulking Centurions, and subsequently get punched to death with Siege Drills. Yes, I have fond memories of this exact scenario happening on the tabletop.

I remember that my one of my early thoughts when approaching the space marines in depht for the first time was "why haven't all of them rebelled yet?" these warriors had their lives stripped of all joy and self-expression, in servitude of a bunch of lowly humans who wasted their lives away with no purpose. That is why I homebrew my own chapter, the Ivory Titans, pearly white marines that imitate humans in all things, working jobs, building houses and forming "families". All of this though, was just a mere mockery, devoid of all feelings and performed just like any other military drill.

Assualting with massive unwieldy meele weapons or advancing with utter insane walls of firepower is why I love playing chaos marines, like with orks (which I also love playing with) you either win big or loose big, but what ever happens it's never dull. That plus I love to customise and for me orks and chaos marines are just so great for doing just that, at least for me anyway.
