A very sturdy product so I can see why it would work well for a gym that has many users. HOWEVER: the force needed to pull the hand bar is NOT ADJUSTABLE. Unlike the Concept 2 rower, you cannot adjust any air baffle for the fan to make the workout relatively easier or harder.

I heard that if you plan on doing the CrossFit open and one of the open workouts has the rower programmed, you won't be able to use your score unless you do the workout with a Concept rower. Do you have any insight on this?... Your review was very thorough so thank you!

Seems like a monopoly but I do get the fact that the two aren’t exactly the same and they want everything to be the same but still, feels like a monopoly to force competitors to purchase a concept2

When it comes to rowers there is simply no treason NOT to buy the Concept 2. It the best, easiest to repair (but rarely needed), and the easiest to resell should you not use it any longer

Hello Great information on Assault Rower Elite. My ??? Do you have to do any maintenance to the chain? Second ??? Using a damper on a rower important factor to consider? I'm looking to buy a rower to help with my post cardio rehabilitation. TIA

Thanks for watching, and great questions! The chain will need to be lubricated occasionally. A damper doesn't change the resistance but can change the feel of the stroke. If you're an experienced rower, then you will probably want a rower with a damper. More beginner/intermediate rowers most likely won't notice a difference and even though there isn't a damper, you'll still get a great cardio workout on it.

Is there a way to make the seat slide with some more resistance? I'm a rock climber so my upper body strength is quite good. I find that after working out on this rower (I'm new to it) my upper body eventually gets tired but legs feel like there was no workout happening... Or maybe my technic is totally off 😅

You should be using your legs for some 'push' for much of each stroke. If your feet are set a tad too high, then your thighs might get in the way too much and you're not getting as much good leg push.

The Assault is a little quieter than the Concept2, however, it still generates sound from the fan.

You really can't go wrong with either rower. The big differences are that the Assault doesn't have a damper so you can't change the amount of air that gets sucked into the fan, which can change the feel of the stroke and the C2 has a bit more capabilities with its console. We do find the AssaultRower to be the more comfortable rower out of the two.

@@TreadmillReviewGuru I have a c2 at home, and my gym has this assault rower and I agree with your take. To me, this rower feels about the same as my normal c2 damper setting of like 4-5. I agree that this seat and possibly seat relative to feet is just a tad comfier than on my c2--BUT considering that this is similar the c2 but this is like 100-200 more expensive, I'm not sure why someone would get this one. There is a company that makes some aftermarket seat cushion for the c2 (tallguyrower and darkhorse have featured these). If this assault rower was *less* expensive than the c2, I think it could be a tougher choice. This is a very good product, but ideally it would be more like 700-800 bucks.

So take most of what is said with a grain of salt. You want a real review of an ergo meter than listen to Shane Farmer or another collegiate crew member. Most of these fitness products reviews are not from people with backgrounds in crew. This one is absolutely no different. She’s not educated in proper technique and her strokes need a lot of work. So, grain of salt.
