The biggest issue I think with why they get away with this when they go in front of juries is due to TV. Sadly people either believe, or it's subconscious, that they think how the cop dramas on TV are portrayed is how it is in real life. They believe that cops have to get warrants, and work with the best of intentions always because that is how it is when they watch their favorite cop show. I think we need to start having real shows that show how it actually is in real life, not glorify the cops and make all others characters look like they are all criminals.

Yes, civilians who are convicted of a 'third strike' routinely get much harsher sentences than a first time offender. Presumably this is because they should have learned their lesson the first two times they were convicted. Surely a trained law enforcement officer should be expected to be just as aware of the severity of his crime as a third time civilian offender? The same failure to learn his lesson, that causes a person convicted of a third strike to go away for a much longer time, surely should be considered equivalent to the failure of a police officer to refrain from criminal conduct despite the many lessons taught at the police academy.

The police department and the hospital not to mention the city got off very very cheaply! Not only did she deserve way more than what she got, every single police officer that was involved and present/witness to the event and did nothing to stop it should have criminal charges filed against them and spend time in jail as prisoners. Used to be that the police department was courteous to hospital workers since they were the ones to patch up the cops when injured in the line of duty. Now we see that the police have no cares as to who they abuse. It’s almost like a spoiled child “I want what I want, and I want it now” is their attitude nowadays. It’s a shame really, we used to tell our children that they should always go to a police officer when in trouble, yet now we see that a great deal of the trouble emanates from these same officers!
