Looking really good Matt. I will keep following along on the build and hitting the like button since they "Cost Nothing" but I think I will continue to work on "G" gauge and 3/4 and 1 inch engines and with my advanced age they are getting heavy. Carry on. Dick B. USA

As always, Thank you. This loco is extremely heavy now and we are nowhere near finished adding weight... may need to borrow a crane to shift it!! 😂. All the best, Matt 👍🚂

Hi Matt, I was watching you make the studs for your cylinders and wanted to impart a quick method to you. I noticed that the pip was on your workpiece and assumed your cutter was ground with the farthest protruding point on the right side which causes the pip to occur on the workpiece. Resharpen your cutter with the farthest point to be on the right, this then leaves the pip on the remaining stock in the chuck and your workpiece is clean. As soon as the piece is parted off continue the parting off action and this removes the pip from your chucked stock ready for the next work piece. This saves so much time when you have repeat operations on many parts. The parting-off tool is sold with the tip of the cutting edge on the left, why I do not know. I have used this tip for over 70 years so can attest to its effectiveness. Give it a try and then realise all that extra work you could have avoided. Regards MoK

I'm not a steam locomotive guy, but I'm invested in seeing this becoming a running steam loco. I do have a question, though. How in the world are you going to get it off the trolley and moved to the club? The size and weight is going to be immense even for 7.25 scale. The move to the club will be very interesting to see, indeed. Thanks for bringing us along to this point.
@MattChiversWorkshop2 ай бұрын
Thanks Jeff, Much appreciated. Yes very good question, well the idea is the trolley should be near the right height for a trailer, and we have some very clever devices at the club to help unload locos... but I'll not spoil that just yet!. They are around 1/2 ton loaded with water/coal, plus a human when operated, very heavy! All the best, Matt 👍🚂

Matt, you owe us a high quality ASMR of the tape coming off those crank pins. You took off so much tape but those stayed all covered up....all the way to the end. Been really enjoying this series since very early on. It's looking great, but that tape is going to haunt my dreams.
@MattChiversWorkshop3 ай бұрын
Thanks Mr Rail much appreciated and thanks for the support, I’ll look into that ASMR but no promises!! That tape is staying on to stop them rusting, I should have nipped out and got some grease tape and wrapped them tbh. All the best, Matt. 👍🚂

Matt, isn't possible to make two block's on the sailing ( when its strong enough) so you can put the engine haust away for more room.
@MattChiversWorkshop3 ай бұрын
I’ve considered such things, but I don’t thing the ceiling would take that much weight. I thought of making an unslung over head crane…. But like most things I don’t have the funds. Great idea. All the best, Matt 👍🚂

Looking great, Matt. I think all of us have some moments where we weren't sure if we really wanted to continue on a project. Have you considered getting a portable dehumidifier for your shop? I live in the northern half of the US (Ohio) and once I put one in my shop, I no longer had any rust issues.
@uskinworks3 ай бұрын
I have two round bar heaters in my workshop ... been on 24/7 for 20 plus years now, never get any rust on parts it keeps the chill off and everything dry, maybe not really hot but they work
@MattChiversWorkshop3 ай бұрын
Thanks LilMule, much appreciated. Exactly at those times you feel like giving up is the precise moment pushing on is the right decision and the reward is far greater than stopping. Biggest issue I have is the thin garage door, which wouldn’t make a dehumidifier cost effective. I plan to deal with the door soon as possible with something thicker and insulated!! If I still have issue then I’ll get one. All the best, Matt 👍🚂
@MyLilMule3 ай бұрын
@@MattChiversWorkshop A dehumidifier is VERY cost effective. They are very inexpensive - I think I paid less than $150 US for mine and my shop is 560 square feet. Even unheated, I no longer have surface rust issues. The insulation in your shop door won't be the biggest issue, it would be anything like very large gaps in the windows or doors that will let too much humidity in the shop. It's worth looking in to.
