Nice review on the Mirage 2000 this one is also on my list of jets I like to get. I was wondering just how slow you can fly this plane before stalling ? Notice in your landing they were very hot. Don't think I can come in that fast were I fly the runway is only 300' unless the plane is on the ground at the beginning of the runway. I have the Super Scorpion which I still have not flew yet added ebrakes to it and a couple of other things but guess I should have flew it before adding anything to it.
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 8 жыл бұрын
+Dennis M Thanks! The mirage will slow down decently. The thing with deltas is that they will mush and don't have a nasty tip stall or anything like that. The trick with landing the airplane is to set the aircraft attitude in the approach to a decent nose high attitude and then use throttle to control the rate of descent. This is the best way to land a delta. I didn't execute that too well in the video as I didn't have a good approach from the start. A good landing starts with a good approach. 300' shouldn't be an issue with this bird. I've flown the F-14 off of 300', but does require setting down at the end of the runway on landing.
@N2RIT
@N2RIT 8 жыл бұрын
The problem at my field is that you can't line up with the runway and descend into the runway you would have to see the layout to understand how we have to come in. With that being said this may not be a plane for this location. It would surely be a challenge lol.
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 8 жыл бұрын
+Dennis M Sounds like it could be a challenge. IS it a diagonal approach?

Hello I have a problem setting my Mirage V2 .All seems to work perfectly .I set elevons on my DX9 SPEKTRUM BE .I have a SPEKTRUM AR 620 receiver and all the connections are correct .the problem I have is I can set the throw independently for ailerons and elevators .If I set at 35% my ailerons servos my elevators goes also at 35 % so if I try to set the elevators at 85 % I can't because if I do the ailerons go to 85 %.I try also with the dual rates but nothing change same behave.What I'm I doing wrong ? Thank you.

I’m not sure I’m fully understanding what you’re explaining, but the transmitter should be setup using elevon mode and then adjustment of the rates should be in the dual rates.

How do those zippy batteries work out? I have bad luck with both admiral batteries getting less than 50 flights out of them and am looking for something different for my freewing f86 80mm. Do these zippy batteries hold up and in your opinion still deliver good performance for the price?
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 7 жыл бұрын
I have had great luck with the Zippy's and like them very much. They're really good and super affordable cells. I'm very particular about care though, I never leave them charged over night or anything like that. I always charge the morning of either at home or at the field. That helps a ton with maximizing the number of cycles you get from a pack. The 5800 in this airplane makes it nose heavy, so I'd recommend a 5000.
@georgeamenta8207
@georgeamenta8207 7 жыл бұрын
The RC Geek great thanks and would you recommend going for the highest C rating or does that not matter as much
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 7 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend a 30-35c rating if you're looking at a 5000 mah pack. The c rating is directly related to the capacity. What I mean is that when running a larger capacity pack, you can get away with a lower C rating. I generally use 30-35C packs as a whole even on my larger EDFs as I run larger capacities for the flight times.

@janmb 3 жыл бұрын
The cg needs to go a lot more aft than that. It also flies a lot lighter and thus more efficient with smaller packs, so the impact to flight time is not that much
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 3 жыл бұрын
Right, there’s a point of diminishing returns on both ends though. It’s been a while, but I think I stated it was a bit nose heavy in the vid. Wanted the flight time, but it was to the point of diminishing returns here I think, plus I have stacks of 5800s and 6250s and didn’t want to buy yet another battery. 🤣. The cg changed when I turned it into a kfir too. Had to move it forward a bit with the canards, so worked out better there.
@janmb
@janmb 3 жыл бұрын
@@Thercgeek Completely agree. There are definitely diminishing returns in both ends of the scale, making extremely large or extremely small packs in a model less than optimal. I saw much of the same in the small freewing hawk, where I tried to reuse my 5000 packs with quite poor results compared to 3-4000 ones.
@derjoh1986
@derjoh1986 8 жыл бұрын
What other Freewing bird would you compare the Mirage 2000 to??
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 8 жыл бұрын
+derjoh1986 Well, I've only flown the Freewing Mirage and F-14. They both fly awesome, but of the two, I enjoy the F-14 more as I can just do a lot more with it. Deltas do have some unique (and favorable) characteristics that make them fun which come with the slow flight regime. They don't exhibit a traditional stall which means that you can usually slow them down a ton. It takes flying on the back side of the power curve to maintain altitude. Is there a Freewing jet you're specifically looking at compared to the Mirage?
@derjoh1986
@derjoh1986 8 жыл бұрын
I was looking at the Freewing F-5, F-86, A-6 and the Freewing Eurofighter V2. Quite a list, I know!! Lol Just trying to decide which to get first. I already have the Freeing F-104. Quite a hand full if you don't fly fast. Already crashed two of them, but if you half throttle and above with the plane, It's a joy to fly and I love the attention it gets at the flying field! It's surprisingly stable upon landing approaches as well. You also need good eye sight to see it at a distance if the plane is coming towards you or flying away from you as it seems to disappear if you don't angle it! Lol
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 8 жыл бұрын
+derjoh1986 I can imagine the F-104 gets tough to see! Not surprising that fast is your friend with it given the lack of wing area, haha! Seems like a good list to me! :) So, of the options you have up there, I've seen the F-5, F-86, and A-6 fly. They all fly really nicely. The A-6 isn't super fast but the flight characteristics are really good. Vertical is a little lacking, but it flies scale. The sabre is good overall, but the main gear track is narrow, so ground handling can be a pain from what I've seen (scraped wing tips come standard ;) ). The F-5 is a nice flier with good overall performance. It has a wider gear track, so ground handling is good too. The shape of the F-5 is classic! I've not seen the Euro, but I would expect it to fly similarly to the mirage.
@derjoh1986
@derjoh1986 8 жыл бұрын
+The RC Geek So, from what you saw of the F-5, would you say it's just as stable as the F-86 Sabre in the air? Do you have to fly it fast only, to enjoy the flight envelope of the plane?
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 8 жыл бұрын
***** In the air, the sabre is probably the most user friendly. Sabres as a configuration just fly awesome. I don't recall the slow speed handling on the F-5. My friend who was flying it likes to keep the coals in it pretty good. Landing didn't seem to be an issue.

On most deltas they need the roll rate low cuz its very twitchy what is your rates like 30 percent and elevators
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 6 жыл бұрын
IF you have too much rate, yes deltas are very twitchy. They don't require much aileron travel at all to get a good roll rate, but they do need a good amount of elevator. I only have about 1/4" max throw for aileron and then 5/8" max travel for elevators.

What would you recommend as a first EDF jet?
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 8 жыл бұрын
+RCFlightReviews Truthully, I don't think you can go wrong with most of the Freewing jets as a first EDF. Configurationally, the sabre would probably be the best choice. In a close second would be the F-15. I haven't flown the sabre, but I've flown the F-15 and it was a really nice flyer! One drawback I've noticed with the sabre from what I've seen is the main gear track is pretty narrow so ground handling can be tough in crosswinds. The F-15 seems to steer like a truck in comparison since the mains are a little wider.
@RCFlightReviews
@RCFlightReviews 8 жыл бұрын
+The RC Geek Would it not be too fast for a first EDF?
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 8 жыл бұрын
+RCFlightReviews Have you flown any high performance airplane before? By nature, EDFs are going to fly quicker. If you've flown other high performance aircraft, it shouldn't be too different of a transition. Remember too though, you can always throttle back. The F-15 has a pretty wide speed range.
@RCFlightReviews
@RCFlightReviews 8 жыл бұрын
+The RC Geek Ihave flown the Durafly spitfire mk1a and Parkzone mosquito
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 8 жыл бұрын
+RCFlightReviews How many cells on the durafly spit? It's pretty quick on 4s. If you could handle it on 4s, you should be able to handle an EDF decently. The thing to remember with jets is that you don't have the instantaneous thrust or the continuous airflow over the surfaces like you do with a prop. So, accelerations from slow speed to high speed take longer and when the airplane is slow, the control surface response can decrease also. Truthfully, I primarily only fly jets because I think they actually fly the best. Since their cruise speed and wing loading is higher, they are typically less affected by atmospheric disturbances and so just cut through the air...most of the time and dependent on the airplane type of course! ;)

You are correct! But, it was fun to transform this one into a kfir for fun. Came out quite authentic looking all things considered. It was a good excuse to exercise my 3d printers too. @Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 7 жыл бұрын
The control surfaces act and move in a way that they act as both elevator and aileron simultaneously. They are called elevons. So, when giving a roll input, if you also provide an elevator input, the roll input will offset up or down based on the elevator input. The two functions are mixed together.
