This online event, set for March 22, 10:00-11:00 am US ET, highlights new research showing how the Chinese state sector is expanding its influence over domestic private firms. The CSIS Trustee Chair in Chinese Business and Economics and the Stanford Center on China’s Economy and Institutions (SCCEI) are releasing a new Big Data China feature explaining this research and the implications for China’s economic growth trajectory and China’s relationship with the United States and other market economies.

You messed up the scheduling. It says 10-11 ET, but I think your scheduler was from Pacific Time, and entered their own calendar data or something. It's 12:56 ET here in ET zone LOL.

Who'd of ever thought China has a "Private Sector"? How do they keep track of their "social credit" score if they're private?

In China, there is social credit score mostly for tracking loan, many loans are taken at the starting of house construction or even before. So there is high risk, what if the people refuse to pay the loan? Well, they have to as long as they alive because of the social credit, even they are not receiving the house eventually.😂

Why is it so difficult for the people in the West to predict China's economy? 1. the perspective. The people in the West often think that they know the truth and they have the truth. When they study the Chinese economy, they inherently have a condescending altitude. As a result, they are mainly looking for signs of failure in the Chinese economy. Any problems China does have are many times amplified by them. They love to generalize and extrapolate isolated events in China to the general society. This leads to very biased and skewed views of China as a whole. 2. Misunderstanding. The people in the West do not understand the way how the Chinese think and operate. There are reasons why The Chinese civilization can survive for so long. There are many unique ways that the Chinese can make things work even though they may look hopeless to the Westerners. If the Westerns truly want to China, they must know the language. There are many Chinese philosophy and wisdoms that cannot accurately translated into English.

Don't be a fool - nobody can actually predict any economy. Its not simply about "people in the west can't predict China's economy" inferring that others can - they can't...not Chinese, not western, not anybody. Also - you're whole "The West doesn't understand China' argument is extremely elitist and ignorant. Chinese people are just people, and the language of economics are universal...stop with the fallacy that China is just "misunderstood", which suggest Chinese people are so different from the rest of humanity and beyond comprehension. We are all people with the same fundamental emotional and behavioral structure.

Do people in China worry about the US? I see the US constantly mentioned in the news here in China... it's always "US = bad guy" , so don't criticize, especially because China is obsessed with the west and constantly talks about those countries
