Finding your car’s damper and aero settings is critical to fast and consistent lap times within Assetto Corsa Competizione - which is why this video exists. Watch as I go through both of these setup pages in the game and then hopefully you will gain a better understanding of how those components affect lap time and how best to use the menu itself.
I also add in some recommended settings too. So, if you want to know how your splitter settings affect your straight-line speed, or the difference between rebound and fast rebound, this is the video for you.
Don’t forget to watch Part 1, where I cover the tyres and electronics: • Assetto Corsa Competiz...
And Part 2, where I cover fuel and suspension: • Assetto Corsa Competiz...

I had to give a sub on this. Watched all three videos and can say the way u explain it is spot on for helping new comers or those who don't know the technical side of it. Very inciteful and should help alot of the newcomers to sim racing no matter what sim they are playing. Of course for PC u have alot more tools to use for tuning but for consoles these are perfect. Wanna say thank you for the tidbits I didn't understand fully. Keep up the good work.

Guys, just a quick tip, your explanation about ride heights is not correct. Racing cars are as low as possible to the ground to accelerate the airflow passing underneath and it creates a low pressure zone (venturi effect). Running very low also allows a seal of the floor stopping that low pressure from escaping. This is all benefits the rear diffuser as the more, faster charged air you have, works the diffuser harder creating more downforce. This is also efficient downforce as opposed to creating downforce through wings as there is nowhere near the same drag penalty. Cars are not run as low as possible to avoid air passing underneath, creating lift or getting more air onto the rear wing. GT3 cars rely on underbody downforce a lot and it is simulated this way in ACC too.

I've known what these settings all do for quite a long time (except for bump stops), but I like hearing different descriptions of their function to further pinpoint what each thing does. These setup guides will be useful not only for ACC, but any racing title with comprehensive car setups. Thank you.

Check your ride height explanation guys. What you are saying in this video is wrong! A low ride height on a race car isnt used to allow less air under the car. Its used to accelerate the air flow under the car while the air flow over the car remains slower. This creates a low pressure zone under the car, while the pressure over the car remains bigger/gets increased by slowing down the airflow even more through wings, winglets and "fancy stuff". The low pressure area under the car creates a force sucking and the high pressure area over the car creates a force pushing the car to the ground. Thats whats called downforce.

I think driving games could take a page from the moto gp games on the issue of set up. Most real drivers don't directly change parameters on their setup, they describe their issues to engineers who can then translate the suggestions to discrete setup changes. I don't remember which of the MotoGP games did this but you would simply ask the engineer what you wanted the bike to do and then he would give you a brief summary of the suggested changes and then apply them. Seeing how certain behaviors correspond to certain parameters is a good introduction into conducting setups and encourages more experimentation since you feel more confident that the changes being made are not completely wrong. Once you build up more confidence and see how changes are being made and how different parameters influence each other then you can start tinkering around and fine tuning to perfection. I understand that sim racers are a very peculiar sort but not everyone is trying to get a degree in mechanical engineering just to drive in a game. A little handholding could go a long way into making sim racing games much more accessible and ultimately more popular without sacrificing the depth of customization mechanics.

First of all, I was pleased that the explanations for the first two parts were sufficient. Since I don't know English, I watched by turning on the translation option. But in part 3, subtitle translation does not work correctly. That's why this part confused me a lot and I couldn't understand it. What do bumps and rebounds mean?

As I have now watched all 3 parts, being a fairly new player, is there a setting i should start with when making a new setup? I heard someone say spring settings but I find it hard to figure out where to start. Thanks!
@JohnMunroRacing
@JohnMunroRacing 3 жыл бұрын
Hey! So from what I’ve picked up, there really isn’t a right or wrong answer in terms of order. I think the main thing is getting your tyres in check first, especially stuff like pressures. But once you have done that, it kind of depends on where the issues lie. From my perspective, I often find aero adjustments have a big influence to feel in a more obvious way to understand than the suspension/dampers, so are quite good to start with. However, as you mentioned, some say springs are better to start with and I think it depends on the way the car feels initially on the aggressive preset. Either way, whatever you do, you will likely need to come back to previous settings again once you have made some initial changes 😊 Sorry there isn’t a clearer answer!

@@JohnMunroRacing No problem, decided to dedicate today to setting up my Mercedes for Imola and started with the ride height (the tips in your videos helped so incredibly much) and then did the tyres. Would you say that the first thing to setup would be the aero tab? I think I've been ignoring the aero balance and putting too much attention to the mechanical grip and overloading my tires.
@TraxionGG
@TraxionGG 2 жыл бұрын
There isn't a right or wrong answer on that one. Personally, I would start with the aggressive default mechanical grip settings and make some aero changes first, but others would argue the opposite is better. I asked an engineer and he also said that there isn't a correct way of doing it, as both will need readjusted regardless. Aero definitely requires significant attention though, it's hugely influential!
@shifterbmtm2495

Nice Vids explaining all this stuff. I suffer the most 'with what do I start????. Ofcourse yor PSI is the most important but if you change your brake ducts your PSI is also changing. If you find the sweet spot what is next??? For example you have a understeering car in mid corner and exit. With what do you start? Springs, Dampers, Aero????? I always intentionally stay away from dampers and springs because i was a noob and with my old wheel i didn't feel the changing in settings. Perhaps now with the new wheel I can. But Nowhere on the internet there is a guideline how to setup your car. Which steps to follow OR is this just the black magic that you are refering to in the beginning of part 1. Wonder how an engineer will approche this scientific matter 😁. Subcribed to your channel btw. Greetz Shifter.
@johnmunro1512
@johnmunro1512 2 жыл бұрын
Having spoken with an engineer for real racing and professional sim racing, there isn’t a right or wrong answer. The black magic I speak about is exactly that… you change one thing and then another thing that was perfect needs changed again. It’s all about synergy between different settings and it’s gets tricky to understand. That’s where the experience comes in! You begin to learn different tricks and methods that work for certain cars. Back to the order, and personally I would start with aero changes before making adjustments to the aggressive default dampers. Aero changes are easier to get your head around and are often more tangible. Then, once you get the balance feeling good you can work on which areas the car is lacking in terms of the suspension. Tyre pressures are something that you should always readjust when needed. Get them right at the start, and If other changes make a difference to those pressures, adjust them accordingly. The thing that makes pressure easy is that you can aim for a tangible number that you know works, rather than basing things on feel and laptimes 😊 Thanks for the sub and best of luck with your racing!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you contradict yourself when saying that the rebound setting (decompression) should always be higher (stiffer) because compressions (bump) always needs to be stiffer than the decompressions (rebound). You say the higher the value, the stiffer it becomes. So something must be wrong here, no?
