I just got the blue vinyl version and just finished listening to it. I had taped it from the library originally (remember tape to tape copying !) and got the CD a few years ago. I got the Club Country and Party Fears Two singles for 50p when they dropped out of the charts. One of those albums I thought I knew every detail of. What a glorious mess of a record. Not exactly audiophile; as I recall when they recorded the songs, they bounced a lot from tape to tape and overdubbed endlessly, so the result is rather muddy, but that somehow adds to the weird mystery of it. I didn't bother with the deluxe 40th anniversary since I think I already have all the extra tracks on the CD versions of their other albums, and the Double Hipness 2CD set. It sounds like with the remaster they rolled off the treble and boosted the bass, understandable since the original is far too "trebly", so I heard some things in the bass that were new to me. I think Fourth Drawer Down is the better album, but Sulk will always be special. The extended version of Club Country has one of the best intros of any record ever. As you point out this willfully strange and unique album was in the pop chart in the UK for a while; amazing.

18 Carat Love Affair is the Associates track that got away from me somehow. It's more accessible and electronic than Party Fears Two and just sounds like a celebration of the times and the era. Brilliant, joyful track I will play to my end.

Hi, nice video. The Associates are a underrated but unique band, that deserve more appreciation. I got to admitt that Sulk is nothing special for me. I like their first to albums much more, especially their debut. The VC need more channels like yours, which focus on New Wave, Synth-Wave, Synth-Pop... and so on. Enjoyed this a lot. Greetings

It's a good 80s album but I wouldn't say it was a great one like say Lexicon of Love or Rio. Highlight of the album is probably the hypnotic Skipping.
