Does using the bird in 2p mode save time outwith the boss fights?

It absolutely can! Especially for Forest Fiend, and Behemoth, Behemoth can be slain before it ever gets off the screen with good RNG, this is also a pretty old run, I have a 22:07 on Twitch, I'm behind on uploading stuff to YT

Is 22:07 the current WR for this game? I've noticed you've used the NA version when most other people seem to be using the Japanese version due to having more health. I'm currently doing research for a TAS that's why I'm asking around. So it would appear controlling bird is only useful for two boss fights, and not for any of the regular levels?

22:07 is current WR and is on the J version, NA MIGHT be faster in a TAS setting as player control is restored slightly more quickly when you find the bird, and for the Frostbite fight (in fact, you can attack before Frostbite can take damage, but it can still cause damage to you) as for any other places the bird might be useful I'd get in contact with gyre_ on Twitch, he's done more 2p research than I have, as a further note, my sum of best is ~21:16

It looks like the bird also helps speed things up on the penultimate boss fight. Taking damage is unlikely to be advantageous in a TAS, but I would have thought it would have been beneficial on The Plains of Destiny.

Plains of destiny can be completed without ever taking damage with a touch of luck and some tight jumps, though taking a point or two during the cycle-locked final section is moot, the bird can speed up Geist for sure, and can help against Jerado, but not in situations I'd expect would be TAS optimal
