Astarion Won't Give You a Second Chance If You Do This

Here's the context:
At the beginning of act 3, during a long rest at the camp, I was able to start a romance with Minthara. I had never romanced her before, so I agreed to a relationship with her (while being in a relationship with Astarion) thinking that maybe there would be a nice romance scene. Unfortunately, there was no scene and the only thing I saw was a super angry Astarion from whom I heard a lot of terrible things 😔 So if you don't want to experience mean Astarion for yourself, don't start romancing Minthara in act 3 without breaking up with the pale elf first.

@LauraPalay well I mean we all have something to justify. it wouldn't be cheating since in the end a relationship has ended bringing forth anew. Some characters have more calm reactions upon ending a relationship aside from telling em directly.

Some other (mostly Astarion-oriented) scenes that may be missable or difficult to trigger if you're prioritizing being nice to his character: - Raphael being the one to reveal Astarion's scars in Act 2 - Tav coercing Astarion into sleeping with them during his confession (high approval or Araj version) - Astarion dissociating with the Drow twins - Breaking up with Astarion during the party but after you've slept with him previously - handing Astarion over to Gandrel and/or telling Astarion you just wanted to see them fight - Sebastian's curse - Shadowheart encouraging you to pick Astarion if you were romancing both of them - Attempting to bite Astarion as Dark Urge (not a big one but his response is amusing given his history), and / or failing the saving throws preceding that - Astarion reacting to leaving Lae'zel in the Zaith'isk - crushing the egg - Astarion throwing Scratch's ball either when scratch is left at camp or when Scratch is dead - _"The full concentrated power of the SUN!"_ - Gale fully commiting to being a bit of a twat if you tell him the encounter with him was just "fine" and ask if he'd rather you lied

I absolutely love his reaction to this. He's clearly starting to feel confident enough to stand up for himself. Imo the most heartbreaking dialogue is when you decide to break up with him after you finish his quest and he stays spawn. I wanted to test what he'd say and GODS it broke my heart into a million pieces. I obviously reloaded within a split second lol

Btw, it's interesting that when you start romancing other companions while in a relationship with Astarion, he will give you a choice in the conversation: either him or someone else. And in the case of the romance with Minthara, it's over for Astarion right away. Does anyone know if this is the same with other companions? If you start a romance with Minthara, will everyone immediately break up with you?

I think maybe it's more of a question of when it happens, with every other companion it's in act 2 and it's when he's not that sure of his feeling and relationship, but by act 3 he starts to believe that it's something solid, "real" as he puts it

To be fair, it might just be wishful thinking on my part, but it genuinely doesn't seem like he minds if you ONLY want to have a little fun with Halsin, and don't break up with Astarion over it. If you haven't had that convo with Astarion yet, it's one of the funniest convos in the game honestly. And, I still ended up happily ever after with Astarion in the end 😊 I figure with everything that this group of people has been through in this really short amount of time, a little polyamory is the least of their worries

@@Allison_Hart If you romance Shadowheart at the same time as Astarion, and pick Astarion in act 2, you'll get dialogue from Shadowbae saying that he may seem okay with hedonism, but it's really just an act. *edit She also says that we're the one who could help heal our broken little vampire too. It's probably one of the best "breakups" in the game

​@@Allison_HartApparently in the Dev notes, he does genuinely not mind you with Halsin because Halsin is "safe". Halsin is not interested in your romantically. Some claim this means he is poly, but honestly it's interesting because I am not poly but my husband is, so he has other sexual partners. I care a lot less about the partners he has who aren't interested in him romantically as it won't impact or cross over with my relationship with him. With SH it's different because it's not casual like with Halsin. He also is okay with the drow twins after you do his quest, indicating he's okay with casual sex.

Not hard at all most of the companions are are just bad teammates like genuinely if you took almost any of them personality wise into a normal dnd game the rest of the group would rightfully walk out or kick you from the game table aka if i die i turn toxic to the party and if left dead its an instant tpk...disgusting erp furry/beastiality garbage...pvp eager ahole that will have an absolute fit when he doesn't get his way...edgy garbage that won't even join/stay with the party...whiny edgelord weeb that probably would have started with a katana if it was a dex weapon...and the worst 1 friggin clifford the obnoxious barbarian

So imagine me choosing the last options with sweat on my face and gritted teeth 😬 Seriously, it wasn't easy, especially since the first two dialogues already depressed me. The worst choice in this conversation is probably "Leave." I thought that if I selected it, the conversation would simply end, but here was Astarion's comment and... OMG. Just watch Astarion's look at 1:25 where the anger turns into such terrible sadness and disappointment... It's heartbreaking.

I'd thought the silly pun "missed stake" would be a clue, as well as if you recognised what Sceleritas putting something "back on the menu" was a reference to. And him upstaging me was a compliment. He upstages everyone. The "just get a bard" thing was a reference to the Quill/Alfreya scene.
