Should You Buy Asterigos Curse of The Stars?
When I first saw that the indie debut release, Asterigos Curse of The Stars was developed by a company calling themselves ACME studios, I thought ohh no, this games going to be an explosive disaster because they seem to have purposefully associated themselves with a looney tunes company that sold poor old Wiley coyote a range of faulty products that would consistently fail with hilarious consequences. Why would anyone do that?
But, after doing a little research into the name ACME, it actually comes from a Greek translation meaning the peak or the highest point and with Asterigos: Curse of The Stars being a thematically Greek souls like game, I hope that doesn’t mean ACME studios cornered themselves into designing Greek themed games ONLY. Anyway, I fired it up and said hold your massive Greek trojan horses! This game is far from a faulty product that leads to hilarious consequences! Asterigos Curse of The Stars is absolutely brilliant!

Nice review! Conduits do actually become teleport points/destinations but only after a point roughly 50% though the game. Definitely agree that sword and shield + spear is a very satisfying combination. Acme have done a great job here, my review for Entertainium is very favourable.

This game reminds me of Immortals: Fenyx Rising and I LOVED that game for the most part (I just hated all the puzzles. Everything else about the game was amazing); so I am definitely interested in playing this little gem!

I believe there were two jokes with the name "Acme" in Looney Tunes. One was the meaning of the word (the highest) versus the quality of the products (the lowest). The other was that "Acme" was a popular choice for business and brand names, because it would put your name near the beginning of alphabetical lists (like the all important phone book). It was apparently popular enough that it was already being used as a generic company name in other media.

i think this game is highly underrated...(clout wise) games like thymesia and steelrising are given their spotlight (despite being kinda disappointing) but this one gets lesser love than those two...heck I'd even go as far as saying this is a good souls like (not the difficulty aspect cause you can choose difficulty on this and even playing on challenge mode isnt really as hard as soulsborne games but the enjoyment factor/lore/level design is there I find myself actually exploring the game slowly compare to thymesia and steelrising where I basically ran past mobs) you can clearly see the devs giving it time, effort and love I hope people begin to appreciate how good this game is...

I think it’s just marketing. I literally never heard of this game or anyone talking about it until this morning a watched one of those “new games” videos. Even then I thought it was just some random steam game but nope I was wrong. If it had better marketing it’d probably be up there with steelrising and thymesia.

Loon Toons strikes again! The word Acme used to mean success and Nimrod was a mythical hunter from the Bible, but people have taken the ironic use of those words in the cartoons as the actual meanings. Also, I feel the need to point out that Bayonetta also combines two weapons into a single move-set and even has a similar control scheme.

I'm loving this game, I hope to see other games in this style, really love the combat, but enemy AI can be oblivious some times, feels awkward that sometimes there's voice acting and other it just disappears. Wish it had a map. It has its flaws, but it's still a great game.

I picked up this game, and when i first played it i was pleasantly surprised. Now my negatives is some of the animations. They just looked weird but many triple A games have some weirdness as well. Overall, i enjoyed the game and been addicted to it, from trying out new abilities to upgrading different weapons. This was unexpected and shouldn't be passed up. The price is reasonable and the hours of gameplay makes it well worth it in my humble opinion.

Nioh series has double weapon system as well, its combat is even more complex than Asterigos, think you will enjoy it. Asterigos is fun itself, played the demo & just checking some reviews before i get full version.

Had it pre ordered already since I really liked the settings and design. Combat is pretty decent, no complaints at all. But the way Quests are handled and the level design in a game with these kind of graphics a map marker or quest marker or indicator would have been helpful. Dark Souls can avoid this stuff since Dark Souls creator only had the vision to make an original concept a success so navigating an intricate level in souls game is never a chore or dull. There are many factors. But with this kind of graphics and level design navigating a level can be a headache sometimes.

I like the art style, I like mythology, and I like female protagonists in games. What I can't seem to like or get the hang of, are souls-like games. So... Asterigos has been in my wishlist for a bloody long while now. Every time it goes on sale I got interested, and I look up reviews and clips for it, and every time I'm also reminded it's a souls-like.

Yes, yes you should buy this game! It is really damn good.. on new game+ run now to get the "bad" ending.. I really do love the game and bought the dlc even because I want to see Asterigos 2 or Anbari expansion in the future.. its just sad how little this game has gained traction so that might be a dream in vain.. for $35 game it has a bloody good game in it and a bloody lot of it.. I was seriously surprised how much game there is.. you can sidestep the stardust penalty upon death by just reloading a save so you can "savescum" through the game if you want since reloading a manual save does not respawn enemies.. in the new game+ run you get the teleportation between conduits back as soon as you meet Otto at phalan academy so you don't need to be too long without it.. I love this game!

Anyone heard of Venetica? Kind of reminds me of it. Venetica was actually a really cool RPG that takes place in a fictional Venice. Not many do they take place in century old Italy.

There is some weapon swapping in Venetica kind of have to. You swap between two types of weapons. The moonblade used to kill undead, the hammer to break down doors.

Somebody has thought of this 2 weapon system before, actually it seems like they ripped this concept straight from kingdoms of amalur reckoning with the exact same buttons too, reckoning had square for 1 weapon and triangle for the other just like this game, I actually don't mind AA developers like this using concepts from AAA games, as far as I know these are the only 2 games that have done this but both games do it flawlessly, but the big difference being reckoning has 9 weapon types with a RNG loot system with dozens of weapons per type, actually if you have never played it you should check it out, with longswords, great hammers, great swords, daggers, longbows, feyblades, sceptres, staves and chakrams, light armor, medium armor and heavy armor, there is just so much diversity and variety in that game, sorry for the rant but you said you were surprised nobody has ever thought of the 2 weapon system before I started screaming at my TV, "What about Amalur"

I just picked this up and I love it. Yeah, it isn't groundbreaking, but it is so well polished. Does it have hiccups yeah, but overall, the story, the animations, the lore all amazing. Combat to me yes felt like Elden Ring, but I would say more played like God of War. With leveling up and spending points on talents for weapon. Hilda is so well done too with the voice and movements. I can literally empathize and love that she is not only warrior, but a bit of scholar too. Like when you hit certain points, she pulls out journal and writes stuff down. She is a well-done female protagonist done right. She doesn't feel or act morally superior to people and feel more like a real person learning from experiences and growing.

From what you were saying in the video, sounds like you might enjoy Ashen, if you haven't played it already. That's quite a colourful soulslike , and it has unlimited fast travel between "bonfires" unlike this one.

It's been a long time since I've been obsessed and focused on a game playing it for hours and days sacrificing sleep. I love this game and this video review. I really hope they make a sequel. We need more strong female warrior videogame characters fighting Mythological creatures. I honestly enjoy this game more than Dark Souls or Elden Ring!

In Nioh you can learn a skill to let you swap weapons during combos making it very fluid but nah, is totally something "new"

Just started it and I’m not really happy with combat, AI seems a bit weird and blocking makes you can’t move at all.,.but I’m not giving it up immediately maybe it’ll get better after the 3rd level. Playing it on Steamdeck, native 1280x800 res, FSR ultra quality, 40hz / fps locked. Runs butter smooth. It even has a preset for Steam Deck which I found great!

Thanks for the review, you probably saved me from some buyer's remorse later. It feels like every time I see a story focused game with art direction that I'm really loving the look of, it turns out to be a 'souls-like' title. Love the look of Kena and this game too...but Demon's Souls (PS3) was the worst game experience I've ever had and I have no desire to try anything in that vein again. Moreso now that I'm an adult and I don't have the hours to spend. Hopefully someone who does like these kinds of games will upload a playthrough and I can still enjoy the story sometime.

I think there's a lot of "it isn't like Dark Souls" going on in this game's reception, and I feel that does it a great injustice. Yeah, it's not as balls-hard as Dark Souls. Yeah, it's not as dark as Dark Souls. Asterigos is a great game, but it has some glaring issues. There is far too much dialogue and text to read, so much so it does that really jarring thing where you'll have spoken parts, then the rest you have to read through. It also doesn't help that a lot of the story is pretty mid. The biggest one though is the godawful, don't know how it made it through to release, journal. Do you like not knowing when a quest is complete? Cause this game never tells you. A simple "quest complete" on the quest page in your journal would have been enough, but you don't even get that. It's so freaking weird.

This isn't anything against it and it's why I like it. It takes lots of inspiration from another's hack and slash souls like. Darksiders 3 I mean it uses the same Ui. It allows more variety though since you aren't limted to the main whip and secondary weapons. It's an easy 7/8 out of 10.

Darksiders is a hilarious series for bad reason. 1 tried to be a god of war game, 2 tried to be diablo, and 3 tried to be dark souls. The series is a joke with the devs just doing whatever is trendy at the moment when the game begins development.

Companies love the service model /souls mechanics to one have less content, story etc to save money, and two to make people think there's more than there is for the money. Its basically lazy game design so they don't have to put actual game mechanics or ideas in them similar to the free to play model.

ASTERIGOS: A MORE HONEST REVIEW I will start by pointing out the games flaws first. 1. CHARACTER MOVEMENT TOO SLOW: I feel like I'm moving in slow motion. The character should move at least twice the current speed. There is a run botton, but that uses stamina fast. 2. DIFFICULTY NOT BALANCED: When trying out 'story mode', I found that fights were still DAMN TOUGH! And bosses take minutes to put down. Simply not acceptable for such a mode. 3. MAP TOTALLY SUCKS: There is no traditional map where you can zoom in, see your current location and move around to see where you need to go. 4. BROKEN QUEST SYSTEM: Ridiculous in this day and age of video games, to NOT have a 'select quest' option. There is no way to 'select' a desired quest. They all just appear at the top left of your screen in a bunch. There is also no quest marker to follow. So I found myself wondering around like a blind man going in circles for hours. Not know which way to go at any given point. 5. YOU FEEL LIKE A CHILD IN KINDERGARTEN: The quest giver lays out demands and if you stray from her orders, she scolds you like a child. Instead of just being able to complete the main objective anyway you like, as long as it gets done. Instead you must listen to tons of dialogue where she's bitching about everything you did wrong and threatening to not wanna work with you if your mistakes continue. Obviously, the game designers have unresolved childhood issues! Other than the five things mentioned above, the game is indeed fun, visuals are decent and FPS is SPOT ON! I will definitely play the entire game and am not trying to talk anyone out of buying it. This review just covers the negatives, as I personally see them. And is my own personal opinions. You decide for yourself.

Boring, this game is total boredom if you have anything tripple a similer to it. It doesnt scratch the souls itch even slightly unless your easily impressed. The graphics are boring but the real problem is the boring battle system that seems broken. I realize comparing this to dark souls isnt fair but for 50 dollers with no physical/trade value/bloody refund , why would u bother. Because these reviewers talk crap and i got sucked in, trust me, nothing against the company that made this bit its boring, the fighting is broken. Graphics look like early 360 era except big aligator. All in all for a ps5 game this is not worth the price.
