Hal-ca is playing the vocal lines of the song. Rin to shite shigure 凛として時雨(original artist who did the song) they did a great job on the cover.

This was a song from Rin Toshite Shigure for the anime Tokyo Ghoul opening. Soko ni Naru was influenced by them and all of them are a three piece band :)

Great instrumental cover! I don't mind if they do anime opening covers, I know they still writing original music for their next (next!) album. And in this case, it's going to reach more people. Every time a band is doing or covering an anime opening, it gets million views. But ASTERISM instrumentals covers (or InstruMetal) are always refreshing and make you rediscover a song. Thank you Ryan

3:29 Yeah I love that "crying" guitar part too, it's so awesome, fit well with the music. Playing music instrument skill is one thing, but composing small detail like that is another thing, they are really smart musicians.

New Band-Maid this summer. New Asterism in September. New Glim Spanky in July or August (I can't keep up) and I'm pretty sure both Sokoninaru and V.O.B. have projects in the works. Man, are we lucky or what?! This tune is FIRE! Thanks Ryan!

I was watching a live stream of another reactor (I know, bad me) and in the chat some people felt like all the Japanese bands sounded similar. I thought WTF? I really wanted to say something but I didn’t want to start any sense of tension in the chat. One thing I am loving about all the bands coming out of Japan is that they each have their own style and presence. Maybe as a musician I listen with more awareness but I could only think that these people are obviously not listening to the stuff I am.

Have they listened to current radio in North America? Sheesh
@RyanMear
@RyanMear 2 жыл бұрын
I can see where, depending on what you're exposed to, that could be your assumption. Like Jaime says, American pop radio is a horrendous example of music in America. There's probably a similar situation with Japanese music. But with both, if your are *looking* for more, you WILL find it!

@@RyanMear - Tones and I. SIGRID, Aurora. In english music, I'm attracted to unique female voices. (Pop artist of band) In global music, I'm attracted to superior musicianship and blended genres. But, I suppose every country has their good and bad as you pointed out.

About the "sound similar", I found a very interesting video about what could make people think something so irrelevant. The point was that japanese popular music is actually very influenced by jazz, and that even in idol music (but also in jpop, jrock, metal) the songs structures and chords are much more elaborated than in the western pop scene (where it's usually the same four chords structures nowadays - how poor!). So yes there's a "different" sound in the japanese popular music, and that's what bother some people who come to the silly conclusion that everything japanese "sound similar". It doesn't - it just sound different from what they use to listen to. Marty Friedman explain it beautifully here, in two minutes kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6WzqWmNmbOAaZI

I think the biggest potential for growth, in the sense of reaching more audiences, in Japan is anime. Probably any band that wants to get to the top will have to go through that filter sooner or later. In that sense, Animetic seems like an interesting step for a band as special as Asterism.

They're so crazy good that it's hard to believe they are (almost) teenagers. How in the world can you be that good at such a young age?!, seems unfair to me... said the person without any musical talent :( Can't wait for the new album!, i've been taking a look at the tracklist and oh boy... that's some awesome anime covers on the way!

Yes, this is already the second song from their upcoming new album "Animetic" where they are doing cover versions of famous anime opening songs. Hence the comical lines in the video. Unfortunately only in digital form as of yet.

@@UltraHD.7 Do you actually listen to them all the time? I also buy all the CDs, to support the band and have some sort of souvenir. But often I don't even open them. Anyway, CD drives are a rarity now. I still have one in my laptop, and I bought a special Blu-Ray external drive, but I always rip those disks and then play the files from my hard drive or copy them to my pocket player.

@@VladimirChupin No, I don´t listen to the actual cds all the time. But as you said, I also got a cd-drive on my laptop and I rip them to my phone and then, well, listen to them all the time 🙂 Just like you, there a several bands I really wish to support in every way possible and I´m sure, buying the physical cds (and merch) is the best way to do. Definitely more than just streaming it.

@@UltraHD.7 I'm really glad that BAND-MAID has added that 💲🖤 button to some of their videos. Of course, KZbin takes 30% of it, but still, it's much more than what they get from merch and discs. Shipment costs sometimes are more than the price of the actual goods. So, whenever I feel like, "Oh, I listened so must to BAND-MAID, and have not paid anything to them already for a couple of months!", I press that button. Sort of a subscription fee 🥰

For their first album on Amuse, it's probably a smart move to use anime covers as anime is so popular in Japan. A lot of these songs are probably also popular and familiar to the Japanese audience. I watch a lot of anime and for the most part I'm impressed with the music and can see why Japanese bands want to get they songs in anime. Look at how many new fans Band-Maid got after the release of Platinum End".

To tell the truth, I was disappointed when I heard their next album would be an anime covers one - I thought it was a step back from the stellar creative work on Guernica+. After the first single of the album, I still wasn't convinced ... but now I am, totally. It's awesome, and it will likely boost their popularity (allowing them to go back to their own compositions).

I love when insane musicians like these guys prioritise music instead of showing off flashy stuff all the time not that it's not mind-blowing already. They really have their style. I dig their instrumentals more than those with vocals. I don't know.

I like that they are Experimental or in Japanese; "Math" oriented music. Not unlike how Rush was considered nerd music at a time. Many musical familiarity's in their Writing but completely Original. Impressive is these are relatively young musicians and already at Professor level performance and Hot Dam Writing.
