Wonder if it is Gregson Williams or Zimmer who did the Asteroid theme though, seems more in line with Gregson Williams as it doesn't have that Zimmer flare to it, though i could be wrong, easily one of the biggest highlights of the score IMO the Asteroid's theme, it's so haunting and chillingly sinister sounding.

In retrospect, I keep coming back to this sentiment. This is one of the only movies where the interpersonal conflict came out of differing strategies toward the same goal. Every other movie is about person vs person (typically vs. "bad guy"). This stands above them for that reason. Plus its All Go No Quit attitude that nothing else can live up to. This KZbinr liked it too, despite pretending to hate it : (_4z9yQnIk-o).

From 4:40-5:30 is one of the saddest melodies in the film. It's during that sequence that the massive piece of rock smashes out the Independence's front windows, killing Col. Davis, Pilot Tucker, Oscar and Noonan, after A.J., Andropov, and Bear escape into the cargo bay with the Armadillo. It's a shame this was left off the original CD release, but it is available on the expanded soundtrack - which I have finally managed to lay hands on.

In reference to this having part of the music playing during the moon gravity 'slingshot' I should point out that it's the reason this was named 'asteroid chase' a chase isn't catching up tosomething it precedes it. So yes, the gravitational manouver is much like chasing asteroids in an almost unknown way hey DID expect tail debris.) Then it was pure asteroid evasion and attempts to land. Betwwen that and the dead stick landing is when the saddest bits come in and the Independence suffers most damage & deaths, ending in the dead stick landing/crash.

And that's scary." 😱 They're out there.. in space waiting to unintentionally attack our Earth beyond Mother Nature's and Fate's control.. but are controlled and decided.. by Astronomical Phenomenons and Anomalous, if that type of occurrence was to make the jump. Let's all hope that this worst case scenario will never happen.. in our future. If the 2012 phenomenon on our planet won't kill us, then these big rocks revolving around our planet within their belt, which is their home, will. Probably.
