a bicycle helmet doesnt make you immune to head injury, but it lessens the likelihood of you getting a concussion when your head hits the ground greatly. You live in a reality that consists of odds of something going to happen and often you have the power to play with those odds. A mask gives you the power to lessens the likelihood of breathing in enough of bacteria particles that your immune system can deal with. And if a person who has them wears one, he/she lessens the likelihood of those getting to the open air for you to breath in. Get it? I believe you should. If you dont, put on a mask, open your mouth and throw some water at your mouth. Now compare the result with the same action without the mask. Then continue trying to convince yourself that mask doesnt block anything :) Do the science. Do it!

@@DylanODonnell Oh, you know you've done it. 🌄The media said we'd all go blind if we snuck a peek. Poor Trump (and most kids around the world) will never see again. 😁 Kind of like how the media knew paper masks and bandanas would stop Covid. The media is always wrong to some degree. Usually shockingly so. Let's just enjoy astronomy and let the rabble jump on band wagons.

@@gelisob Except a cloth mask will not protect you at all from incoming virus. You need a N95 or better mask to protect against the virus. Do the science, please. Cloth masks have only a weak protection at stopping OUTGOING particles. You get the same protection by coughing into your shirtsleeve. Get It? Look into the properties of the masks that health care professionals wear, and why? Do it!
@gelisob
@gelisob 3 жыл бұрын
@@astrobob9432 I did not touch on the type of mask. Topic was: does a mask stop virus. N95 stops 95% of particles. A sleeve/paper does not stop 95% but it stops more than 0%. Something is greater than nothing. When all involved have something rather than nothing, it will be significant.

Astronomers without Borders held a search campaign in which people like me could help discover data. It happened somewhere in April and I participated along with 2 classmates and a few other people from another city. We were given a few sets of images from the pan starrs telescope to analyse in astrometrica. I remember finding like 2 or 3 previously undiscovered asteroids. It was really interesting. I wish I could do that again.

I must admit, it is hard to stay motivated to seek after asteroids on clear nights, or clear nights when the moon is out. I did this for about 4 months and got it down really well, and was submitting results. The MPC didn't accept my results because they were going through a software revision change and were backlogged. I went through their whole game of qualifying for an observatory code. Then they put a new guy on clearing through the backlog who just wrote me saying I had to submit all new results to be qualified for an observatory code to show that I'm truly an active observer...because I stopped sending them my asteroid data because they never responded back to me! It became a complete waste of time and they didn't even use my results, which I had confirmed accuracy on before submission according to their requirements. I was even targeting asteroids on there requested list. Enough griping from me, nice vid.
@DylanODonnell
@DylanODonnell 3 жыл бұрын
That’s really hard man.. thanks for sharing. I was submitting during that same time too and wondering why the radio silence. I eventually got a response highlighting some errors but haven’t find the time to put in the hours .. and it’s tempting to image a nice nebula on those clear nights I agree!

Good one Dylan. Astrometrica is a pretty tough program to get to solve...one tip is to drop the image into astrometry.net get the exact coords and field orientation if that is not in the fits header.
@DylanODonnell
@DylanODonnell 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Terry! I've found Astrometrica to be quite the nightmare so I really wanted to get it to the point where I could feed it an unsolved image (straight off the camera) and have it automatically match.. it finally works! I don't have a rotator but SGP will take the angle from the last plate solve and preserve it in subs after that which is cool :)

Thanks for highlighting asteroids Dylan. It’s hard to tell from what you showed but it appeared the asteroid was moving in the same direction and speed shown by the known objects marker. One thing to check is the most common error causing issue. PC clocks are notoriously inaccurate. Check the PC time vs the real time. It must be less than one second off to achieve the necessary accuracy. Regards. MPC W33.

Yeh I use a time synchroniser so it’s accurate but if time was wrong the position would be off in the direction it’s going (before or after) .. because I’m off laterally I think it’s my gps coords that are wrong. Good point though! Must be precise !

Mine was a photometric study of variable stars, and more exciting to me at the time the newly discovered exoplanet transit of HD209458b. (Osiris). The overall objective was to site test the Uni's obsy equipment to determine if it was good enough for 'real' science. CCD's were super small at the time, I think it was an S-Big ST4. But it was kind of cool because it had a guide chip on camera!

Given how many "moving items" one can see in the sky with a naked eye, you didnt touch much on topic of how many artificial objects sky is filled. There are rules :) Comets get named by the surname of the discoverer or observatory with multiple staff. I think asteroid discoverers get to suggest names as long as it's not themselves.

..suppose the asteroid trajectory intersect with the earth path evolution circling the sun and where the intersection site is quite dense with the comet debris (source of meteor shower) perhaps the asteroid will hit some of the debris and if the impact have momentum direction to the earth perhaps it will create some sort of chelyabinsk event, or perhaps incase the chelyabinsk event the asteroid it self brought some sort of 'escort debris'.., sorry I just to try a reasoning of the 'meaningful coincidence'..😊
@DylanODonnell
@DylanODonnell 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely. With half a million things flying around us (and half a million more we can't see) it's basically a chaotic system and collisions are inevitable. Not just collisions but also gravitational tugs here and there that make the whole thing very hard to completely simulate.
@OdjoAdja
@OdjoAdja 3 жыл бұрын
.. furthermore if at the collision site can be found some sort of 'energy/gravitational field' that kept those celestial debris, seem that the 'energy field' can alter the earth seismic layer, I just a bit curious why sometimes those 'meteor shower' season also followed by earthquake..🤔
