Harry, during a visit to the factory the question was asked ‘why the doors swing upward on opening’ on all of their models. The explanation was that most vehicles are sold in North America. Over there, the kerb edges are considerably higher than European, so to prevent the door edge whacking the kerb, they are designed to swing upwards and clear the edge - clever! 👍
@NarcFreedom Жыл бұрын
I cannot imagine parking this car on the street anywhere in the US, let alone parallel parked against a kerb with some idiot in front and behind. I would in fact advise against it. I feel like the upswing is more of an ergonomic thing. It allows you to get into the car with a little wider opening without opening the door as far.
@matthewp9015 Жыл бұрын
@@NarcFreedom you’ve never been to Beverley Hills then if you think these kinds of cars aren’t parked on the street. When I was there they had Veyrons parked outside the shops. Great review and objective. I really love my DBS and just enjoying a plan B after the Imola GP was cancelled. 5 days driving through Italy and France really proved the GT capability. Relaxed fast and comfortable to drive the car seems to attract positive attention that my 911 didn’t and the engine is just a gem especially out of a toll plaza. Av mpg of 24 and an average speed of 74 mph so very capable as the touring car that I hoped it would be. Not sure the 770 gives you that much more but the styling and handling sound very appealing. I get a rush each time I start the engine and just love my time behind the wheel. All in all despite the size I love my car.

Fabulous car and very enjoyable review Harry. Next time you have one of these you may find it simpler when coming out of manual mode back to Auto to simply pull the + (upchange RH paddle) and hold for a few seconds and it will automatically drop back into auto mode. No need to press the D button on the centre console. Similarly, to engage neutral when sitting stationary for a while, pull back both paddles simultaneously and hold for a moment and it will drop from manual/drive into neutral.

It always felt the DBS was rushed a bit. I think they thought well we got away with only rebodying a DB9 last time so we can do it here with this. But the fact they didn’t sort that centre console for the DBS made it feel like an older car, too Mercy for the money. And why oh why oh why nobody in Aston clocked that the timeless factor of hiding the infotainment screen when not in use was essential is beyond me. What makes their old cars great is the fact you can take a 2005 vantage all the way to a 2016 v12 vantage and although the waterfall dash was improved and modernised over the years the terrible screens could be folded away and no matter which era car you had you’re only left with a lovely dash and the age of the car didn’t enter into it. Such a big misstep by AM to knowingly start with an old Merc system and then not mitigate that by allowing the screens to fold away when not needed. New Vantage isn’t as bad because the dash itself is designed better and the screen isn’t as intrusive but DBS with the old S class console just never sat right. They should have redesigned that for DBS and warrant the additional cost of a V12 DB11 imo. Excited for the reveal on Wednesday, looks like there’s buttons involved 🤣 of Stroll can keep the ship pointing in the right direction and actually spend the time and money on getting the basics right like the infotainment, the noise and drive ability then I’m confident for AM’s future. Having said all that the DBS in particular this one is stunning and maintains AM’s lookbackability massively. Gorgeous car to walk up to and start!

Recently the local dealer arranged an open day to drive the DBS both in Volante and Coupe and wow, just wow, what a car so the Ultimate looks good. The most attractive variation of this model by far. It is large and probably not as comfortable (or elegant) as the Conti-GT, but it sounds as if it is more sporting to drive. Great exhaust note, the popping gurgle is intoxicating. Never understood nor liked the greenhouse treatment near the B-pillar but the changes to the body and the headlights are much welcomed. What a prize. The dash cluster looks a little too over-designed, like a leftover prop from the Batmobile, and it never looked right with the rest of the more sedate interior. Odd. On the outside, they got the proportions right and the way the fenders swell out on the for corners of the car is fantastic. Looks menacing, powerful and beautiful at once. It's a shame these cars depreciate they way they do, but it just means great sports cars from A-M are within reach for more enthusiast. Check Autotrader for the proof. I wonder what is next for this mark. Great review, Harry!

Understated that screen is ridiculous it looks so dated and crappy. They should use a screen like Bentley's flip display that looks good and can disappear if you want. This crappy Mercedes display is just embarrassing. I can just about live with the rest of the interior but that screen dates it so much. Despite whatever flaws Aston’s may have I think one of the first lottery win cars for me would definitely be an Aston. Those wheel look horrendous to clean though.

Good gosh! The opening of the video,......THAT SOUND!

Long gears with good throttle response. That’s all a GT should be. Oh and if course…must look good in Italy.

This harks of the chunky late 90’s Aston Vantage!

I love the sound. Setting that aside, I'd rather have my '95 Supra. While this interior clearly costs 20x more, it seems worse. The exterior is nice but who wants the size. The vision out is crap. The transmission may be good for an auto but who wants it. I miss my old targa roof. And I used the Supra with four people for hour drives, and all sorts of week-long GT'ing across Europe. I only had 450hp in mine but 650 was easily achievable with reliability and stock internals.

What an absolute beauty, that noise is quite something. 😳

Hell of a colour, that.

The decision to use benz interior was made by the prior board. Current board agrees that it looks bad, and will scramble it as soon as they can.

Sounds glorious! Especially for a turbo!

Wow that a good looking car, a beautiful colour paint job the silver accents work as a nice contrast.

Harry, I do miss you weighing the cars, I know it’s super nerdy, but I always found it fascinating.

Sonorous in a way that most cars will never understand. Interior aside; this could be Aston's finest hour...

But for the seats, I tend to agree with Harry regarding the lack of interior pizazz for the cost of this “flagship” AM - DBS 770. Personally, I’d rather tip my cash into (say) a BMW M4 GTS, Audi R8 v12 ‘Performance’ Quattro or Mercedes AMG GT 63 S or AMG GT R PRO with the latter 4 having more track day and head turning appeal, along with an every day wow factor. Enjoying the content Harry. Will we see the 930 turbo Porsche complete some laps of the NBR/Nordschleife on your journey through Germany? Certainly would be entertaining to see your 930 turbo zipping around the worlds best track…cheers😎🇦🇺👍

Looks and sounds fabulous. I'm sure Aston know their market and can sell them around that price point, but seems steep to me...

Hi Harry, I know it's not your usual content, but it would be great if you'd do a finale review of the Ford Fiesta as it goes out of production. Feels like the end of an era for young/new drivers 😢

As an owner of this generation and moaning about infotainment in this gen, most owners could not give a stuff. For something that are sports, GT or heck an SUV Aston spent a lot of their time clearly making them work as cars in the real world that could ride well, be quick and enjoyable for their owners. As i daily drive mine the lack of a touchscreen and gimmicks the less the better. Touchscreens are pointless nonsense.

I would selfishly like to see Harry review some of the 90s JDM hero cars, ala Skyline, RX-7, and/or Supra. These cars are cultural touchstones particularly in the United States and to my knowledge he has only done a video on the NSX.

High depreciation: huge opportunity to get high value in second hand market. 350k as new is ridiculous. But 150k in an almost new one I think is most desirable than a brand new “basic” 911
