When you finally venture out of your mom's basement, get a good job and actually start buying sports cars, you quickly realize that outright speed is only one of many other considerations that make or break a car. In fact, in the real world, the speed is one of the least important as almost all sports cars are "fast enough". The sense of occasion, how it makes you feel, the steering, balance, noise, throttle response, aesthetics inside and out... all count for far more than how fast it'll do 100-200 kph or 0-60mph. Swap that Sportshift box for a manual and this Vantage is a truly special car.

Bang on. It's a smooth, burbly car for going on grand tours or weekend drives. There's really no need to bring other cars into the equation; the V8 Vantage is in a class of its own. Not the quickest (yet still pretty fast), not the cheapest, but as an Aston driver myself, I wouldn't change a thing about it.

I've got this exact car, only mine is a Roadster. It isn't particularly fast, or powerful with only 430hp. But...the most satisfying car I've ever owned. I've owned a Z06, CTSV Coupe, both more powerful, but this car is still more fun to drive. The Sportshift isn't as bad as everyone says once you get used to it's quirks.

Too many people in the world today judge a car by its horse power or top speed, acceleration, track times etc. but the only performance that matters is what it makes you feel, what can't be measured. Aston Martin vantage s is simply the best all around car in the world. Any real car lover will understand what I mean .

I have heard exhaust tones from all of those manufactures you have listed, that is how I have come to the conclusion that they all have a manufactured tone now days, its not the natural engine noise. The only exception is the Mercedes 6.2 in the C63 AMG.

I like AMG cars, but nothing in AMG lineup competes directly with the 911 or Vantage (SL = too large, SLK = too small). I'd still say 911s are the best rounded sports car in the world, and nothing else has as much practicality and character than this nearly 50 year old legend. The Porsche 911: that is my passion.

I'm from germany....here the Aston vantage s has a starting price of 132.000 euros. The Panamera Turbo S starts at 169.000 euros..... i think 40 grand of price difference is quite significant :D but i don't know about the prices in other countries

well... i love both cars, the ZR1 for its speed, its sound, and because its relatively cheap, even though ill never be able to buy it.... The Aston is more of a car which you would like to drive every day, with some nice power and sound, but also very comfortable and stunning to look at. If i had the money, I'd take both...

I suppose it depends what one would most want from a car, really. For speed, the V12 would blow the V8 into the weeds, no doubt about that. The V8, however, has a unique feel to it that suits a driver that, yes wants a fast car, but not a mad, hardcore one for pounding round a race track all the time. I drive a V8 often (my dad has one) and it's just so relaxed and, for wafting and cruising along, it's unrivalled. The V12 is for a track, but the V8 is for getting there.

The Aston reached 100mph in 10 secs, whereas a ZR1 reaches 122mph in 10 secs. Though the difference is significant, you can never reach those speeds on normal roads if you're sensible whatsoever. Also-Aston's are driven by people with taste and class, Corvettes are driven by Americans (enough said)

While I fail to see where Alfa comes into the equation, I have previously owned a GTV and a 159. And I see your point about money, but even if you can afford £100,000, £50-90k is a great deal to save up. I will not deny the fact that the V12 Astons are astonishingly good, but they're not in the same class so should not be compared to the V8.

That`s very true. Aston`s are not suppose to overly powerful(Accept of the One-77 of course) and normally aspirated. Aston prioritizes Looks-Luxury-Power... I would still take the V12 Vantage above all else.

The V8 is unique to this car. It's the only V8 Aston, so the Vantage should celebrate this fact. The V12s are for the bigger Aston Martins; the DB9, the Rapide, Virage, the V12 Zagato, the DBS and the One-77 - they ALL have the V12. So if you wanted to buy an Aston with a V12, there's no real reason why you'd choose the Vantage. The Vantage is for people who just want a V8 sports car.

It's not all about speed when you're in an Aston Martin. It's unparalleled style and exclusivity. Plus, V8 Vantage is more GT cruiser than an outright Sports Coupe; the focus is on comfort. You buy a V12 Vantage for speed, and a V8 Vantage for comfort.

At least all the gears are being selected to reach top speed. If there is one complaint against Mercedes 7G-Tronic auto (and it's AMG derivative 7MCT), is the gears are spaced really wide apart. Good for C350 & E350 on long highway cruising, not so good for the SL63 and E63 trying to attain top speed; they top out at 6th; the C63 almost can't reach 6th. (7th gear is never used)

That's why I said they compete in marketplace because it's more about price. So around that price they are direct competitors, of course being sport cars, not comparing with a pick-up I like about 911's the huge grip at start that the rear console engine gives, some technology, but nothing else. The car narrow, light, compact, so aerodynamic, and efficient, and with a 4 or 500 hp engine extremely fast, but still a poor beetle. Up to 993 gen the cabin is just that.

Will you ever stop? I know it's my opinion that it's brilliant to drive, I said that ages ago. The beauty is also my opinion, yes. But it's not only me that thinks this; Aston drivers pretty much unanimously agree that it's sublime to drive. Astons are known for this. And for their beauty, too. My point is, it's not just me. I'd say that I share my opinions with the majority of TRUE car enthusiasts. Ones that see past speed. I suggest that this should be the end of this particular discussion.

Peoples stop ARGUING!!! lol the Aston was never ment to be a super car, its a Grand Tourer, if i wanted something thats stupidly fast, loud and sideways i would pay AUS$ 50,000 and buy an FPV F6 Tornado Ute (for non-Aussies, its a "pickup" with a 4.0L turbo inline six putting out 310kw and 560Nm of torque) but if i had the money fro a nice cruiser id by an Aston
