Tielemans would be my pick for set pieces. Buendia is quite handy too, if he gets game time. People forget that Tielemans played 46 games for us last season, 34 of which came in the league. He is the man to fill Douglas’s spot.

the big difference is, for us atleast, we may be having to do all this, but were being successful. So we may be tight financially but if its affording us to finish 7th and 4th and be in the UCL then its obviously the right way for us to do it. Rather this than be in the same position but down in 12th or something having to sell luiz while not being able to get up the table.

It could take Mings, Buendia and Kamara half the season to return to good form and full fitness. That should be at the front of Emery's mind when considering transfers.

I think if we do go for another midfielder, it won't be headless chicken Gallagher, but the hotheaded, combative, Guendouzi, a cheaper alternative who's more rounded in the middle, could partner Kamara or play his role, and like emi martinez, the sort of player who you love in your team, but would really hate to play against, the shit housery down Villa Park would be on a different level.

I think the phrase “it’s coming home” is more to do with football commonly known for being invented in England. (Not that there’s solid proof it didn’t have alternative versions of the game elsewhere) I do agree the World Cup is the pinnacle but bringing a cup from a major footballing competition is bringing the game back to where it was born….aka “home”

I’d definitely have Pau as a DM if needs be, but he’d need a very mobile partner. Pau has plenty of pace in a straight line, he can dribble, he can pick a pass. But he has a tendency to get run past and isn’t strong on the turn.
