A part of it has been due to Russian soldiers being sent into Ukraine during an army exercise in Belarus, which not only made them unprepared because of this sudden change, but Putin probably seriously thought this would be a done deal in 24 hours, and more resources like good amounts of fuel, food and medical supplies would not be necessary as a result.

@davidmurphy5632 жыл бұрын
@@nunyabiznez6381 Absolutely, Op Barbarossa was on a much larger scale than this war. There were 4.5m on the axis side alone when it commenced. There were roughly 775,000 axis casualties by wars end and an even higher amount on the Soviet side. In Ukraine we've seen maybe 30,000 Russian troop casualties (including injured and pow) out of an invasion force of around 160,000. If you just look at one of the first months of Stalingrad we're talking comparable losses. Smaller scale war but the fact a Stalingrad comparison is even vaguely possible drives home how bloody it is.

Ukrainian Special Forces have the largest number of sniper units for it's size of any other military force in the world. They are armed with Snipex T-Rex and Alligator precision anti-materiel rifles. They are trained to support combat units. They stand watches over sleeping troops. They are trained to work behind the enemy lines and they pick over Russian depots and assembly areas gathering intelligence, identifying and targeting Russian commanders. The Russian military is a top-down command structure where troops and lower rank officers are trained to strictly obey orders, they are not trained to exhibit initiative. When the commanding officer is killed, the units under them completely stop... They have no orders.

So for the Russian colonel whose general just got shot, the sniper could be a mile or more away. Don't try to find him. Just run.

Yes, there have been a couple of instances where a large number were killed. But you look at the buildings that are either gutted or destroyed, and you would think that the death toll would be in the thousands, but it's not at 1500 yet. @Christine Yes. War is brutal. It turns out that young men become very angry when their grandmothers' houses are shelled and destroyed. And, when young men become very angry, they can become quite cruel, especially when stressed, sleep deprived, and well armed.
@davidsuro9862 жыл бұрын
@Christine It wasn't propaganda that led to the Ukrainian troops' hatred. It was seeing their wives and children forced to flee. It was seeing their homes destroyed. It was seeing their friends die while defending against an invading army. I doubt many of the Ukrainian fighters are pausing to watch the news. Propaganda has an effect on the masses who are not engaged in the fight, but not on the fighters.
@davidsuro9862 жыл бұрын
@Christine If you were to see your childhood home destroyed by shelling, do you think propaganda from either side would have an effect on you? If your best friend were killed while fighting next to you, do you think the news would have an effect on your state of mind? You really are silly if you think the news is somehow in control of the minds of warriors.
