Thanks for the video! According to VX the oil drain plug torque spec is 25nm (18 lb ft) for the 1.0 and 1.4 petrol engines, 14nm (124 lb in) for the 1.6 petrol engine. Additionally, for most (all?) Astra K petrol engines, Dexos 1 gen 2 or Opel OV0401547 is recommended. Dexos 2 is no longer recommended because it increases the risk of LSPI, which damages your pistons.

Thanks so much this was a great explanation. As you said I could find only very little information on the B10. Never owned a car where the filter was so well hidden from sight if you are not in the luxury of walking underneath your car.

Great video many thanks. I have a 1.4 T petrol on a 68 plate Vauxhall just used 0 w 20 on mine. This I was told was due to some engine failures where excess crankshaft end float occured. I may go back to doing my own servicing but it's been a very long time since I climbed under a car.

I noticed the garage changed my oil from 5w-30 to 0w-20 as well in my 18 place 1.4t Astra, I feel it performed bit better with 5w-30

@@granterono1 Hi, out of interest on your Astra when you go around roundabouts do you notice the next gear change the clutch pedal has a strange feeling . I think it's to do with end float. My local Vauxhall garage claimed the 0 W 30 oil prevents failure but I am not sure. I hope it's ok as I like the car . Mines SRI VX line so quite a sharp looking model.

@@graemeguthrie2054 i can’t say I have noticed that for me the gears all feel perfect when changing, however I have noticed that quite often now when I try to accelerate quickly the car almost stutters a bit like the engine isn’t sure how to handle the accelerator pedal being pushed so quickly. It’s probably nothing to do with the different oil but I can’t remember noticing it when using 5w-30

Thanks for the info, couldn't figure out the size on the sump plug without actually going under the car. there really isn't alot of info about the K-series online. I've also read that Opel uses the 0W20 instead of 5W30, i don't know what effect it would have on the engine though..

Dexos1 is for east and south Europe market. In UE it's Dexos2. In the north consider 0w40. XER, XEL, NET engines were so much easier to work with.

Can you show where to jack up the front of the car so you can put it up on the jack stands? I can raise it with the jack but then there's no way to put the jack stand there...

I use GM 5w30 Dexos2 in z12xer & a14net. It's recommended for most opel engines.
