ONE CLARIFICATION: A few people are commenting that the sentinel might not be in the box due to the disclaimer 'sold separately' in the promo vid for the new guard. 4th edition, 20 Guards were £18.99 (or there abouts) 5th edition releases and GW change the box art, cut the models inside to 10 and keep the same price. Then in 2021 they add a few new heads and special weapons to 20 year old kits jack the price up 30% (significantly above the price of brood brothers which was the same squad with extra Genestealer parts and a Heavy weapons team making them a better deal) That 30% price hike was probably to prep the customer base for whatever stupid amount they are going to charge for the new cadians, so yeah it is an assault and one GW has done b4.

After a lifetime of paying the same number in £ as Americans do dollars (even when it was 2:1 we'd be paying £700 for something priced $700) it's actually a relief that we have things cheaper for once. I'd like to imagine it's benevolence on behalf of GW but the truth is everything is such a mess here right now British people literally can't afford to pay any more than we do.

considering current guard cost, those models would barely reach 300pts unless each ordnance cost 150 above per piece. and that is way less than what an old start collect offer for that price point

I was at my local GW store earlier this week and he was saying that the new Shock Troops aren’t replacing the normal guardsman, they are supposedly a higher quality troop kind of between guardsmen and Kasrkin. But I guess we will have to wait and see.

These box sets tend not to be catered to a playable army like the combat patrols, more like an introduction. I suspect that there will be a specifc way to field this army set to bump it up to 500pts though, if you make liberal use of upgrades and weapon loadouts.

I wonder if we'll be able to build all of the guardsmen with Katrael pattern lasgun (or at least looking most like it), I sure hope so. I'm not TOO fond of the M14-lookalike lasguns, it's cool in their own ways but the Kantrael is the OG, maybe 2-3 of the M14-lasgun ones but not the majority of them like the preview pictures had them.

If you can tolerate having your barrels upside down, Wargames Atlantic's Cannon Fodder infantry are equipped with Kantrael-pattern lookalikes, complete with fixed bayonets even. Probably be slightly out of scale with GW's chunkies, but they look fine in units of their own. Just finished up another 50 of them for penal legion troops in 2nd ed games.

Just a quick one, the current Sentinel is like £24 from GW and I always thought that was a bit pricey, I love the new model and was thinking of getting some for my Guard but £32 is gonna be a big turn off for me, so hopefully it's more in line with the current price.

Yeah, when Mordian Glory leaked the first photos of the new Sentinel I honestly didn't think it looked as good as the old so quickly picked some up at a discount of £17 each. Very glad that I did because I'm not spending £30 for 35 points

Guard were my least favorite faction in the game until I started playing GSC this year. I started looking at Guard models because of the brood Brothers link to my army...now I'm about 99% sure I'm going to get this box to start Guard as another army, not just to use as brood brothers.

I have conflicting feelings about buying this box, normally I'd maintain a hard no on anything over $200, but as this is Guard I'm vary tempted to save up for it, which is a massive compliment from me

The real ork boyz box (ie not the recent non-modular crap with the useless weapon mix) is $38 for 11 minis - and even that's more than it should be allowing for the plummeting value of the pound. And it still does a much better job of offering build options than most more modern kits, with spares that are actually useful and (if you can find them through third parties) 100% compatible with the parts from the old WFB ork boyz kit. If the new guard grunts are much more that that I'm guessing a lot of people who might have bought into guard for the first time will look at what buying their infantry core will cost find other alternatives, of which there are many and more in the pipeline. A guard squad box isn't a Kill Team release where people are getting a whole playable force out of one box - it's a tiny fragment of an army, probably worth about 60 points unless there are radical changes. You can't ask $60+ dollars for that and expect it get much new blood, and even existing guard players are less likely to upgrade at those prices. I'll also point out that while KT prices are very high, an equally valid comparison might be Necromunda, where a (usually) ten figure box is $47 and arguably offers more modularity and build options than most KT sets do. Guard grunts don't need two types of sprues in the box (which appears to be what drives up KT costs), they can dupe one very well designed one like Necro and Bloodbowl use to keep their costs to something marginally reasonable.

On one hand you dont have old models in there, on the other hand its barelly 300 points. They should have had at least a Dorn in there. Also that picture really hilight the fact thos "dynamic" poses gw keep giving to infantry just destroy any unit coherence look they could have. Thos guys dont look like a unite of soldier in formation on the battlefield, it looks messsy as hell.

if the field ordnance batteries are 5 power each, then the whole lot roughly works out as a Combat Patrol. This holding true, then the only discount is getting a limited edition codex. as a regular codex plus data cards and combat patrol box is about £140

I suspect the shots of 3 ordnance weapons are just to show each weapon, and they'll be packaged as sets of one like Eldar support weapons. Those are old models now - perhaps a recent comparison is an Age of Sigmar artillery piece like the Starshard Ballista, which looks to have the same base size. Checking, that's the same cost as the Mek Guns.

The 3D print circle jerk is pretty tiresome. I could easily print pokemon or MTG or Yugioh cards on my inkjet printer, but I don't, and nor have 99.999% of people for the last 2-3 decades where inkjet printers have been available absolutely everywhere and ten times cheaper than 3d printing. Even my grandparents have an inkjet printer lol.

@@Edude117 the prints are getting better. I honestly feel like it depends on the print and depends on the army. I like OPR’s “daemons of change” way more than the GW horrors/flamers. And while I am not an advocate of piracy, I know a man who prints forgeworld resin copycats of the dreadnoughts that are indistinguishable from the authentic item. I generally agree though, and stick to mostly GW minis. I am grabbing those OPR models though since I’ll never play those tzeentchy guys in an “official” event with my thousand sons.

It looks nice, and if it hugs the lower end of the price scale, I will probably grab one! I don't have any need for a whole army, but I've long knocked around the idea of buying some specific pieces; mostly Cadians, conveniently, and painting/assembling them for fun. I REALLY like the new Castellan model, and it might finally be my excuse to try my magnetized options HQ dream, but having some rank and file around with it could be nice. If it's the higher end price, maybe I'll just settle for the Cadtellan, and some nice Kasrkin. ☺️

youd think they would put 20 infantry per box though. 10 infantry per box is horrible because guard players end up wasting a tremendous amount of money on packaging and shipping costs for each individual box of 10 infantry which couldve been halved if they just gave you 20 models per box instead. GW could easily sell a box of 20 infantry for less than the cost of two boxes of 10 infantry and still make the same or better profit. And it would make things so much easier on guard players.

What about a Broadside Battlesuit as a price comparison for the Field Ordnance batteries? I think Broadsides are expensive for what you get at £35 a model but they fill a similar niche and it's relatively common to see them used in squads of 3.

Isn't the codex a LE one so that bumps the cost up further? I got similar numbers using different units that felt appropriate. Such as the Wraithlord for the Sentinel, Eldar Support Platform for each individual Ordnance Battery. Used Chaos Cultists prices since the squad isn't on the KT level as the Kasrkin squad. Then again, that's me assuming a lot of it is fairly monopose models that don't offer much for conversions aside from headswaps and weapon swaps. Reading the Warhammer Online article you only get the Scout Sentinel variant. I have a feeling it's gonna be closer to the -[30% discount when all is said and done.]- 35% and that's not as big as of a difference, but still. The points per dollar/pound is what leaves me worried.

You’re only partially right - it’s also solid for folks who want the models that are in the box. The only time it becomes really questionable is they insist on throwing the damn data cards in that nobody cares about to inflate the “value” and thus the cost. I always calculate the cost versus box prize without the cards because I don’t give a crap.

@Anonymous Cheese in the end, those are just 25 guardsmen, a sentinel and two heavy weapons... The codex is worth nothing sadly as are the pieces of cardboard. So everything over 80pounds is a no go for me personally. That being said, i did not buy from gw directly for the past 10 years so I am no longer the targeted whale anyways.

If it had a third artillery and a Russ then it would be worth the price of probably $170. Even Heresy at least a patient buyer could grab it for around $200. NuCadians is simply just another terrible box at a terrible price. Yeah... 30% savings but then a 50% to 100% increase for those of us GW love to screw over.

Judging by the contents in the box and knowing basics about the guard in game I can say that in my opinion its definitely not worth over $200 USD if that's the going rate. Guard is one of the biggest money pit armies in the game, unless you're just getting into the faction or just want the codex it might not be a wise deal depending on the new pricing for the new minis coming in it. Just my opinion though, I'm sure experienced guard players / collectors have better takes than me.

Good chance you'll want this box contents at least 5 times. Sell the 4 extra books, data cards and command squads. Probably X amount of sentinels aswell. So I'd guess getting 1 box for variation might have a niche. But overall very expensive idd

Whatever price they set, it will be 60 to 70 USD more than the GBP price set in the UK. Current conversion rate: 1 GBP → 1.12220 USD

Are you saying to go by the conversion rate? GW has their own conversion rate that doesn't follow the pound vs dollar. GW prices as follows using Kill Team: Blooded as an example. Current conversions have it at: £35 on the UK GW website. $60 on the US GW website. They don't match up at all using the current exchange rate. I'm sure everyone else is charged more due to shipping costs and other reasons, but it's insane. If going by Votann, the box is £120 vs $200 on their sites. That's a huge markup given the current conversion puts £120 at $135.

Seems silly to me. $200 for early access to a book that will become a paperweight after they nerf it a month after release. 3d printers are around $200 now. Paperweight book vs machine that pulls you out of the GW FOMO cycle. Seems an easy choice to me, but it's your money

@@Chris-cv1yh a $200 3D printer is gonna wind up being a back market 3D printer with the potential for being a fire hazard, and the prints your gonna get from it are gonna be terribly low quality, I own a 3D printer at this range and I don’t even use it, my friend has a $500 printer and ive printed my tech priests from it and a few tank accessories but it still is low quality and doesn’t have very good detail, you really need an upwards of $1000 for a good quality printer and even then it still won’t have the same amount of detail as actual GW product, so while a printer is good sometimes it’s not good all the time and I would rather spend money when I can put it towards smaller more detailed miniatures, and since this includes the book and the cards, and a bunch of the new guard, a new sentinel, and the new heavy weapon batteries which would be a nightmare to print, yea I think it’s a good deal, not to mention the book is gonna have a limited edition cover, and while some stuff will likely get changed odds are it will only be about 10-15% that gets changed, which I can always update I’m the book with sticky notes or actual pencil or pen amendments to the book so I keep the book up to date, a product of not being lazy and years of being a student Buying a codex is one thing, and it will be a paperweight if you just buy it and then do nothing with it, you have to keep it up to date, like a living document, it’s best to make it a habit too

At a rough guess given we don't know the new stuff's cost, 250-300, much lower than the other boxes. Guard infantry is not expensive at all.

@@masterofthelag8414 I was thinking the same amount. I cant help but feel like there was once a tank included and it got removed. It just feels like there is a big 200 point gap considering this is most likely 90% of the combat patrol box too.

I’m not buying it because I don’t have that army and I’m not buying any more models this year. I *might* make an exception if there is an exceptional Christmas box, but the truth is the economic situation has finally caught up to my savings and I’m now needing to be more cautious with my finances.

Guard Box with no Tanks for that Price? For me thats a total nogo. And prices for Infantry Squads are allready to high. when they get more expensice, it will be although a total nogo for me. All in all i think Guardupgrade will not be great and stand milles or better a whole warptravel behind Votann, Tyras or even Chaos Codex. With the end of the Edition at hand, i guess it its an absolute desaster.

My cost ideas , bought separately. 65$ for the troop squads Sentinel around 70$ The field artillery 80 to 90$ Could be guessing low here. Command squad 50 to 60$ Codex 60$ I don’t value “ limited edition “ high for a codex. 30$ for the cards. Edit: This box will be around 300$ USD I’d wager.

There's 25 dudes tho.. 2 troops, 1 HQ, 1 vehicle and 1(?) Heavy support, and all minis are new design, plus even if the comment is about the minis you gotta consider codex and other material in the box - if you think that should cost 70 dollars I doubt you will ever be happy with a GW price

@@elRandomTk In GW money it isn't etheir like look at Octarus(Which I own and gave it a "one of the good vs boxes value aka worth it" when I unboxed it.) and indomdus alot of the combat patrols... Which your right in 2022 money $70 is a bit low so max I would go is $130 which is oddly the same as what the space dwarf box is worth in USD if bought at the UK price. I should have mentioned the codex and the cards/tokens but I included it in the price... As faction boxes that don't have faction books ether have way more minis and units or have a book(Or both but the scale is smaller like 15MM dudes and 40mm tanks.) or then rules are free. Really Look at any other game or even some of the past(Last 10 years) GW stuff and you'll find this release lacking in model count and unit count like I don't think this is 2k points. Which I did just check Bolt action the nearest thing to 40K and they don't come with a faction book but they do come with alot more models and units in a starter army for $170 but you can get less units for like $60 but still more and more units even then this new box for the IG. But yeah regardless this Imperal Guard box should not be $200 or more in any case.

This will be like the Votann box - you basically don't get a discount on the models (or at most the equivalent of a character model), but you get a free book and cards. Given that a Guard force will likely want every one of these models anyway - assuming the field ordnance is good - it's a no-brainer for anyone who wants a Guard army but doesn't yet have the basics, since the alternative is those 300pts and the reference material for $300+. It's like the Ad Mech Christmas box last year - worth getting for any discount on a very expensive army, since it's not going to be any less expensive passing up the deal. The typical 33% discount on these launch boxes isn't as good as the 50+% on starter boxes or battleboxes, but it's in line with most Start Collecting/Vanguard/Combat Patrol boxes, and the battleboxes and starter boxes only give that discount assuming you actually want both armies. That said, because the discount is no better than a Combat Patrol and the contents are likely to be similar it's not an unmissable deal unless you want the models early or care about 'special edition' books.

@@philipbowles5397 Ah ok that makes sense in a weird way. What bothers me so much is GW's tendency to make more and more of those hefty price tag sets instead of making a proper launch with several smaller sets simulateously like they did in the past.
