I bought the Laowa 85mm F/5.6 2x and no regrets. Very sharp and very small and light. I think if this AstrHori would start at F/5.6 or F/8 that would've been perfect.

Your observations about quality control are not far from what Matti Sulanto found when he tested an AstrHori lens: different model and different defects but similar conclusion. I'm happy to see new low cost lenses, but quality and consistency matter. Btw, you are partly to blame for getting me to try macro photography this summer. Thank you!

11cm is a huge working distance for 2 x life size macro. I m guessing to achieve this feat extra glass was required which = extra weight.

Hi, I hope you will find the time to reply to me. I'm really into macro photography and till now (3-4 years) I always worked on a Canon 70D + Laowa 100mm 1-2x + meike mk320. I'm starting to feel quite limited in what I can do, especially photostacking (due to the flash) is quite unberable. I was looking for a new flash + high quality diffuser, but the pricing looks quite high. If I had to spend a lot, I thought that at this point I may just upgrade all my gears, but, I'm a bit lost. What is in your opinion the best camera body I could buy for macro photography? At the moment I'm think to go for the OM system OM-1 + m.zuiko 90mm + Godox V860III-O (is it worth over a Godox TT350O?) + AK Diffuser. For a total of like 3300 eur if I am not wrong. My max budget is 5000, there is any way I could get any better without exceeding the budget? Is the OM system mark II worth the price difference? If anyone can reply I would be very thankful. Love your channel Micael, it was really a blessing when I first discovered it, you helped me so much and you gifted me my favourite hobby. Have a great day.

Those would be great to accept a mounting system for lighting. Reviewers never include little details that seem obvious making you think they never really used the lens. Once, Micael was one of the better ones but he abandoned us. Sorry.

Yiu say your Laowa 85 f/5.6 is your favourite macro but then in this review you also compare the AstrHori with the Laowa 90 f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO, so given the choice for a full frame canon RF would you go for the 90 or the 85?

Matti Sulanto made a video where he disassembled his AstrHori lens. When asked whether he worried that his teardown and reassembly might mess up the lens, he replied that it wouldn't make it any worse. 😂
