finally someone showing it how it works... Thanks a ton. No one here is showing how it works. You are the first one that I found. Glad I found you.

After just finishing up my purchase of this, I decided to check to see if there was a difference between it and the cheaper brands...glad you made the video and glad I made the right choice. Buy once cry once definitely was worth it in this case.

Thanks; I was considering purchasing Astro 9406 Hose Clamp Plier Set, a set that contains 9409A, the upgraded cable hose clamp pliers.
@gordylocks10 жыл бұрын
I just got my Astro 9409A yesterday and they look awesome! My work had a pair of some that both had broken ratchet mechanisms and that was their only downfall. My new Astro set looks very similar to my shops pair but they are also a lot more beefier. Good review!

jr scott Thanks! I think the older Astro models were a lot more problem-prone....the 9409A has the upgraded cable & ratchet mechanism.

Thanks for the video, I just bought one of these, can't wait to see how well it works.

Good review! One small point: I would never even think of trying to remove the clamp with needle nose pliers. For the clamp in your example, I would use channel locks if I didn't have this tool. Needle nose pliers wouldn't work at all.

I've used these at the body shop. Works well when you're stuck in a pinch.

I noticed the Mayhew poster right at the end; did you know they supply re-branded hose clamp pliers to the tool trucks? You can also purchase a version of these off of Amazon, as well. All of them are made in France, as opposed to China or Taiwan, so they should last longer

At 3:39 you mention about the Astro having a 33% thicker cable, and while true,. in effect, the cross-sectional area of the cable is even more impressive... ~75% more. (Ref: the old formula Area=Pi X Radius squared)

I bought mine at sears. Comes with lifetime warranty and easy to stop in and exchange.

You can say that about any company and any warranty though.

The problem with this type of tool is that the head and bow of the cable has to have clearance and it is at least partially a two handed operation in a sense of placing the head. The first time I tried it I was removing a radiator and I just couldn’t get the right angle on the bottom hose clamp but it came of easy with a cheap set of extended needle nose vice grips. I really wanted to like this tool and tried it on the next couple jobs but ended up using extended needle nose (straight and angled) since they worked as good or better and were easier to use. I’m a firm believer that it is better to have it and not need it, but so it has not been worth the the trouble over a set of extended vise grips.

very nice review, I will get the OTC because is 10$ cheaper, and I just need it for my car, that's it. If I will get a lot of work, sure I'll get the Astro's, they look that it will last longer.

Great review! It's also interesting that the car used for demonstration is of the same model with mine, the Lincoln LS V6, which I wil be working on with its thermostat replacement with this clamp plier.

I am just wondering if it will be safe to use these constant tension band hose clamps on all the hoses in a vehicle, top bottom fuel and water hoses.

Great tool! Now I wish there was also a tool to get the hose off..sometimes I swear its like they're glued on permanently

The knipex hose clamp pliers , actually have special angled jaws to help grab hoses and wiggle them off. I was looking to buy and realized that you need both tools when working in tight areas and/or the position the clamp was left in, doesn’t allow hose clamp specialty pliers to access. I’m buying both tools.

If the hose clamp holder opening is not wide enough to accomodate the width of the hose clamp how can it be extended to be able to fit.

I can't be the only one wondering this. Can you use these pliers on washing machine hose clamps too? Any appliance techs out there?

Yeah we use them too a late reply I know but good for sump and pump pipes you can get it in a set of 9 which is amazing for appliances

I bought a cheap pair of the same style and the teeth on the ratchet mechanism started to wear out like the first time i tried it and the part that locks the teeth was also worn, I am guessing cheap metal. I am guessing after 5-10 uses those teeth will be pretty much shot. How are the teeth holding up on these ?
@RealToolReviews8 жыл бұрын
These hold up excellent.....zero issues.

I like the way you made the disclaimer that "Astro pneumatic was nice enough to send you these" ; I think you should state clearly in all your videos if you were "sent" items to review OR you purchased the item with your own funds.

Have you had any experience with the Irwin long reach needle nose pillars and what is the warranty like on them are like like craftsman or kobalt
@RealToolReviews10 жыл бұрын
d shook I have not. I dont really buy that much Irwin, since the few times I have and things broke....they give you the runaround on warranties. They want you to return it to the place of purchase (i.e. --- in my case, the sears store was 60 miles away ONE WAY). Craftsman you walk in/walk out of sears....Kobalt you walk in/walk out of Lowes. With all 3 though, make sure you save your receipt or many of them will never honor any warranty.
@thenamelessyee10 жыл бұрын
Real Tool Reviews ok thanks man I know craftsman is probably the most relaxed warranty I remember when I was a little younger I found a craftsman from the 50s in my mamaws barn and because it didn't work in took it to Sears and they gave me a remanufactured one. Will Sears remanufacture a vintage style ratchet if you ask them to. That's what I should have done
@RealToolReviews10 жыл бұрын
d shook Sears will not replace any internals/work on any ratchet for you.....they do rebuild some of them in the back as needed, but most are melted down for scrap metal & then they give you someone elses rebuilt ratchet OR a new chinese ratchet for your trade. SOME of the sears stores will give you a rebuild kit for your ratchet for free (or $0.01) if you ask them. I would never just swap a collector ratchet in for a "sears special" though.

I won't buy another pair of Astro Pneumatic hose clamp pliers,nothing but a POS.I have a pair that sit in my toolbox drawer which have been replaced twice,the teeth for the pawl stripped out.
@RealToolReviews10 жыл бұрын
wafrederick Sounds like a candidate for a warranty exchange to me....the new version (9409A) has a much beefier pawl design over the last model from what I was told. I use these on a regular basis & have never had an issue with mine.
@Toolaholic710 жыл бұрын
First one was replaced by a Cornwell tool dealer I had,2nd pair was replaced by another Cornwell tool dealer.Astro Pnuematic products don't last very long,my father had a die grinder lasting for 6 monthes.
