CAMERA:
I bought my very well used Canon 5d mark ii second hand very cheaply but if I had a bit more cash I would buy a Canon 6D because it is more sensitive and has lower noise than the canon 5d mark ii. I saw them going for £300 on ebay just before Christmas.
In order to get the best out of the camera you need to remove the infra-red blocking filter which sits in front of the sensor. You can do it yourself but it is a risk (and more modern cameras are much more tricky to modify). I recommend Andy Ellis at Astronomiser to do this mod professionally. Andy also cleans the sensor as part of the service: www.astronomise...

I somehow found it a couple of nights ago while deciding which Binoculars to start with, and I’m rationing the number of videos I can watch daily, because there genuinely are NOT ENOUGH!! AstroBackyard: "I consider a small apochromatic refractor to be the absolute best choice for beginners, and that’s what I’ll recommend." You can get one for only $800! "It can be mounted to a modest equatorial telescope mount such as the Sky-Watcher HEQ5, or EQ6-R Pro" (~$1300). A cheap DSLR will cost you around $300 and you'll need a clip-in light pollution filter ($200). Of course you'll also want a guide scope and a camera so that'll be about $300. The whole setup shouldn't cost you more than $3000 Astrobiscuit: Hold my £600 *keep in mind that all the quoted portions are actually what AstroBackyard has said or wrote word for word. The rest is me overdramatizing.

I am a noob student.. However, I took a panoramic shot of the milky way... With like 170€. 150€ of phone and a pan to stabilize it for my phone that I put on my window sill. And the best part is I could see andromeda on the photo! I could never take DSO tho. This is very cool to notice that we all do astronomy differently. To be honest, I would dream to have an epic rig with a lot of feature, but taking "good" shots with the cheapest way also amuses me a lot. Like wow, with a 150€ phone and 50 shots with sequator, I could make a fairly good picture. There is coma deformation but my photo was only 50 shots and I recently discovered I could take 400 shots! I am impatient to see what I'll get.

Extremely well produced and I instantly subscribed. One physics thing though, the light captured is much much more dependent on the size of the telescope's opening/main reflector and a lot less about the size of the sensor. A big sensor is good for low light because larger (1um) pixels have better electrical properties and less noise. Not because more light falls on it. More light falls on it if you use a wide lens.

23:03 For a £5400 savings, that much cheaper scope does pretty damn good against the expensive one even with the tracking motor issue. As Han Solo would say: she may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts and I made all the modifications myself. 26:43 Hope to see a follow up with the replacement tracker mount on the custom scope. 22:42 It was a dead giveaway between A&B due to the spikes on the bright stars from the secondary mirror holder veins of the Newtonian.

''I spent 6000 on this setup, my wife is not happy'' SO ''I am going to build another one for 600!'' Your wife deserves a medal for sure !! Love the contect though, buying my first telescope on wednesday (Celestron PS 60mm F10, on my superbudget for only 50 euros)

Man I really love this kind of video! Last year I was inspired by your smartphone-astrophotography video and managed to get a decent shot of the orion nebula with my own smartphone. When I got my tax refund this year I finally bit the bullet and bought a cheap DSLR and some Takumar lenses. I'm planning to build my own tracking-setup with a stepper motor this summer! Cheers from Sweden!

sounds really cool. I had a takamur lens once... gave it away annoyingly

@ZƎLIOTT Find a way to shoot through the scope and try it. For long exposure you need a tracking mount. You can start with the moon. No tracker needed for that.

This is the only astrophotography channel - including my own - where the final pictures are less exciting than the video, LOL. The bunny is clearly from alpha centauri, the accent gives it away. Please continue this awesomeness.

Is the stress reducing medication taken into account with the 600 quid setup ? 😉 Excellent video!

no... also the budget set ups don't last as long bc they get hurled over cliffs fairly regularly

question: what if we got expensive camera like Nikon 810A < Canon EOS Ra < Sony a7R IV < Fujifilm GFX 50 R (noise performance in this order) if higher sensitivity and larger sensor is better, would they be more useful than a ZWO ASIO71mc?

Not quite, you must take into consideration the fact that the sensor needs to be refrigerated, if so, you discovered the wheel

Astrophotography has been a distant unobtainable endeavor for me. Until just recently, that is. I've now the time and, well the time, to jump in. Your channel and your commentary and approach to astrophotography have truly been an inspiration and a much needed bit of comedic relief. The time and effort you put forth in every video is extraordinary. Thank you very much!

I've recently become a fan of this channel and loved this video. A few questions (from somebody with no expertise) in regard to the fan usage: 1) Considering the fan just circulates air, is it actually going to have any cooling effect whatsoever (unless the [parts of the] camera generates heat)? 2) Wouldn't the fan produce microvibrations that could have a significant impact on the end result? 3) If the fan is blowing air in the front of the mirror, it would surely generate small amounts of undesirable turbulence? Although perhaps insignificant

It's "I and Bunny", not "me and Bunny", but I still ABSOLUTELY LOVE this channel. I've been contemplating astrophotography: while other youtubers take my courage, Rory gives it back EVERY time! To the extent that I start to not care about grammar anymore! This is pure awesomness.
