Astrobiscuit is the Christiaan Huygens of our age. By combining his own technical skills and the craftsmanship of experts on guiding, mirrors and taking exposures he is taking amateur astronomy to the next level. But wait, is he now taking the LOFAR-method to visual astronomy, using a community of amateur astronomers? Kitt Peak National Observatory, the game is on!

@@Astrobiscuit LOFAR is the Low Frequency Array; a radio telescope that uses 20.000 small antennas distributed over the Netherlands (where I am from)the UK (where a famous rabbit lives), Sweden, France and Germany. Like what you are setting up now with a community. Not only will you have petaflops of images with a community focussing on the same astral object, but maybe you can also attract some imaging experts that can really push the limits of resolution as well. However, you will probably need AWS as a sponsor for cloud computing soon ;-)

You should have talked to the red bunny, who says: You could do even better! Add a tube exhaust fan below the main mirror, which increases your luck in lucky imaging, because it reduces tube and mirror seeing that never stops entirely, especially not if the night cools down, by sucking out warm air. And slightly stop down the main mirror edge with a ring (e.g. 3d printed) to hide the diffraction of the mirror clamps and the often not entirely perfect mirror edge. A few mm suffice, just check the halo of a bright star to see the difference.

Azza Johno: No it not looks more detailed, they look better while he has less light coming in, the prof picture is in my opinion over exposed , still the details and resolution are far better , and he stop the comparison in the right moment so you can't see his failure. Of course for the equipment he use it is an amazing Photo. And on his Photo the whole Galaxy is getting blurry and washed out so don't fool yourself.

@@powertothebauer296 focusing on the core of the image, the dark clouds in Astrobiscuit's image showed more detail than the other images and that was the focal point for the comparison. I do agree that overall Kitt Peaks image is an incredible spectacle and truly amazing but as an Astrobiscuit fan, do agree with Rory that his lucky imaging technique resulted in an astonishingly good outcome. Was an all round excellent video, both entertaining and exciting!

Fun video, though the science of optics got lost a bit. Resolution is a measure of smallest detail dependent on the potential of the mirror fighting seeing AND the resolution of the sensor. Kitt Peak has a more sensitive sensor which on the most optimal nights will resolve more detail a 6" mirror never differentiates. Still that image from the red devil is impressive catching some of the dark cloud structure.
