The old rule of thumb for aerial photo interpretation is "shadows stab stomach." That is, rotate the image until shadows are pointing toward the viewer. This mitigates visual inversion of terrain and the true 3-D effect thus appears. PS I learned this so much more from fabulous old profs in Dartmouth's geography classes now five and more decades ago. So long ago, ERTS (renamed LANDSAT) satellites were still months away from first being lifted into Earth orbit. )

The Standard Model describes a fantasy world. Phenomena are ignored, laws are re-written, data is fraudulent… the Crisis is simple, the world doesn’t match the model. The system is corrupted, expelling any challengers. The model is broken, it cannot make accurate predictions. It’s time to reevaluate, and get a good grip on the basic principles.

The writing on this channel just keeps getting better and better. Of all the sci-fi channels on KZbin, none can even come close to the realism and hardcore science that this channel is committed to in the stories they tell. The art and 3d rendering are also second to none. It’s just amazing to me how deep and layered the lore has gotten. Sometime in my lifetime I think that humanity will make it to the moon, and hopefully even beyond to explore other bodies in the solar system. When I was a little child, children were often told the moon was made of green cheese. One night I was out with my Dad, we took some time to examine and admire the sky. The moon was the object of my attention. After some thought I ask, "Dad, if the moon is made of green cheese why is it grey." He looked at the moon for a moment then said, "It was green when I was young, but now the moon is so old it is covered with mold." As I was still young enough to be awed by such wise wisdom I was very much impressed.

I'm sure it will be amusing to hear your insight or lack there of on my questions. But don't worry my mind wasn't poisoned. I'm a retired medical professional. That means I'm college educated in the field of human anatomy, physiology and mental health. As well for hobbies I'm interested in astronomy, geology, phytomedicine. As I became an older child I felt rather grownup when I knew "grown-up" answers to my questions. Lunar crater reversal is an interesting phenomena . Scott's Polar expedition in the early 20th Century had trouble seeing footprints ahead of them as indentations in the snow but instead saw raised mounds they avoided in case they tripped. This was when a low Sun cast shadows in a certain direction. Walking in the other direction they had no problems seeing the footprints as the indentations they were. Another useless litte fun fact.

23:35 I think the fresh ejecta around those craters is "fluffy" and so has less thermal mass and is better insulated from the core so it cools down and heats up faster. As the material compacts with age they become more like the rest of the surface thermally.

Hi @astrumspace, I love the video! Thank you for giving us top notch visuals and information, I've been subscribed for quite a while. I was wondering if you could add a subtle permanent scale to all images to get a sense of feeling how big or small some objects are? Always loved the feeling of being so small on earth and this could reinforce this feeling :)))

That is what sparks make in a vacuum when you go across dust. They hit is always 90 degrees and it spins around itself when it makes these "sparks" but they are much more diffuse in low pressure. Electric Discharge Machining is the technical term.

The images are not very detailed though. Considering how close the LRO orbits and how good some of our cameras can be, I wonder why this is? If we can get license plate numbers from low earth orbit through an atmosphere, you’d think we could get better imagery on the moon.

One comment of sense in a big old circle jerk. I learned some new things about the moon that cause me to distrust basically everything. There is an atmosphere on the moon. The is water in the form of ice.. 6 billion metric tons of water. The earth and the moon are made up of different material - it is not likely that the formation of the moon happened the way it has been told

I think the cold spots could come from the ejection material, giving the surface a more rough structure, increasing its surface area, leading to higher radiation at night, cooling it more down. It wouldn't affect the temperature at day, because it doesn't increase the surface area projection from the direction of the sun.
