Running actually helps yourself get prepared for battle by warming yourself up, you'll be less rigid and the blood will start going to your muscles more. They are actually running at a medium pace for that, they're not sprinting. + you also do it for the adrenaline rush. xD

In most real battles people did walk until they get close before starting to run, not sure why they do this in movies and anime, running from a mile away. You would be totally done by the time you get there, especially running in armor, with weapons and shields, but i guess people have infinite stamina in anime and movies.
