I adore the FHD version of this laptop, and recommend it to just about anyone at $700. It's so good at just about everything. Why don't I still have mine? The lack of OLED display was an issue as my main use case was at night

I have the 2022 Flow X 13 Supernova 3050ti 32gb ram, FHD, and the 3080 XG Mobile. It was very difficult to get it to Florida from the Philippines. I love the laptop and use it every day for school and gaming. However there are drawbacks. The laptop gets pretty hot when gaming, Up close to the top where it vents it can burn your hand slightly, but where your hands sit when gaming is not so bad. I had to replace the GPU fan; and did it myself. also the FHD screen is not really a gaming screen, but can pretend to be fairly well. I've been using it constantly for two years and the portability is indispensable, with plenty of power to run any program snappy and fast. I play big title games at around 75 fps with the XG Mobile, maybe 45 or 50 without it. The 3050ti can render 90 chunks in Minecraft without a problem. This thing is really strong for the size despite its temperatures.

Everything I've heard about the touchpad has said that it is made from glass or coated with glass. You said it was made of plastic so I'm not sure now. I have one of these (sans dGPU) arriving today and I plan on running Fedora Linux (KDE Plasma under Wayland) on it. Hoping for full hardware support and an excellent experience but we shall see.

Sometimes it is hard to tell, perhaps I was mistaken but it felt like it when I ran my finger nail over it. I would try scratching it with a knife but the supplier wants these things back undamaged. Hope you like it as much as I did 👍

More off topic questions! Dear Steven, have you ever thought about doing a desktop pre builds channel? Alienwares, HP Omens, Currys! I think KZbin needs a dedicated pre builds channel and you are the man for the job!!!

Thanks for the suggestion! I have done a couple of prebuilts and they have done OKish. I do have two lenovo desktops they sent me. I'll probably just do one of them unless all of a sudden the views go high. I'm going to be doing a channel announcement video soon though.

Excellent review as always stephen. How does it compare to the xflow 15 and 16? Do they also have soldered ram? And how's it compared to the FW13 and 16?

Thanks Eric! I know the X flow 16 has DIMM slots. The Frame work laptops are not 2-1's I don't believe and the 13 doesn't have a dedicated GPU. They are available with Intel CPUs though

Great video with lots of details! Finally someone who doesn't just keep saying this laptop is perfect. One little mistake: the 4070 version has 32GB of RAM, you can see in the benchmarks that the laptop was on average using 25GB of RAM, which is clearly more than 16. Great video though! Thanks!

So you're saying you got around 11 hours on battery with it? That's very different than the other battery tests that advise some between 6 to 9 hours.

Oddly enough, that model with 16 GB of soldered RAM and no dGPU is $700 at Best Buy. That's actually quite good.

Hi Steven, Sorry to go off topic, but I hope you don't mind me asking you a couple of gaming laptop questions. I keep seeing reviews of laptop rtx 4090 saying they are not much faster in fps than laptop rtx 4080 BUT they compare 1080p results which seems a bit misleading. Is the laptop rtx 4090 worth having over laptop rtx 4080 for native monitor resolution of 1440p and 4k external monitor? Did you ever review the Acer Predator Triton 17X? I have my eye on it as a big step up from my Alienware X14 (rtx 3060). Thank you, Paul

Hi Paul, I tested the Helios 18, but I can ask for the Triton 17X if you like. Its the type of laptop I love to look at. In my testing, at 1440p/1600p the 4090 is only about 9% faster than the 4080 so I don't think it is worth a massive premium. I recall Lenovo was selling their 4090 (legion 7i I think) for the price of a 4080 a few weeks back. You can always OC your 4080 a bit too and get about 5% extra performance . I have the Cyberpower Tracer Vii (same as Mech 17 GP2) with a 4080 and it works great for me.

Cooling system is horrible and inside components are cheap, an Asus employee said they receive broken flow x13s regularly for repair and replacement, it's very likely it will fail because of cheap components

Mine gets very hot, so I agree there. I did have to replace my GPU fan after about a year. I did it myself and it was not very easy. But I think the build quality on these is pretty fantastic. I don't think they went too cheap with the parts.

I have the 2022 model of the Flow x13 with the RTX 3050. From a speed perspective its fine, the screen is nice, but man is the keyboard terrible. I hope the 2023 model has a much better keyboard.

I have a 2022 Flow X 13 Supernova with a 3050ti. The keyboard is one of my favorite features on this laptop. Very low travel with a soft bumpy feel that gives great feedback.

@@shadowhawk320 My issues may just be with my unit, but I have had issues with key presses not registering or keys, like the left control key specifically, getting stuck. It annoyed me so much that I started carrying a low profile mechanical keyboard in my back pack and just using the system in tent mode.

XG mobile is trash. The fact that it has a proprietary connection and only asus devices are useable, makes it a no go for me. Mobile 4090 is desktop 4070ti, It would be a lot more cost efficient $1999 for 4090 mobile vs say half that for Egpu 7900xt which would raster just as well.

Yeah, its crazy expensive. You can buy the base model of the Flow X13, with no dGPU, at Berst Buy for $700 vs $1250 elsewhere, so that would help towards the cost of the XG mobile. Still, an expensive solution but at $2700 it puts it slightly higher than a 4080 laptop.
