Samsung seem to have some kind of exclusivity deal with Wacom. Way back I had an ASUS EP121 that had a Wacom pen and it was amazing (for 2012). The loss of it for crappy active pens on everything except Samsung is depressing, Samsung couldn't make a good windows device if their lives depended on it.
@rhoharane4 ай бұрын
Apple Pencil is definitely not a gold standard by any stretch. Lots of people complain about its unstable pressure and accuracy. It's just that many people also don't care because they use it in ways where that doesn't matter and the benefits of an iPad outweigh it. IMO, the iPad being an iPad has a lot more to do with it being a desirable device. Device support. Looks neat. Compact. Quiet. Great battery life. Great touch controls experience. Easy to find accessories for it. Great speakers and screen which means it's easily a "reference device" and great for looking at images and watching videos. As much as Apple does nasty, consumer-adversarial things, the iPad is usually a great bang for your buck. For art purposes though, it's not for everyone because of the characteristics of the Apple Pencil. Some people have switched to Galaxy tabs and loved the pen a lot more. These Windows devices have an uphill battle in terms of even just matching all those good characteristics. Using one of the worst pen tech doesn't help their case.

Brad, nice review, but I have two issues. 1) You can purchase a charging dock for the Surface Slim Pen 2; I got mine for $35, so you don't have to have the keyboard to charge. 2) The storage on the Surface Pro is used replaceable; there is a little door behind the kickstand that you can open and replace the Nvme SSD. It is never a good idea to pay the storage tax to Microsoft. My big issue with Microsoft devices is they male you pay $500 to step up from the base configuration to get an OLEDs screen; now, you do get more storage and an upgrade from the Snapdragon X Plus to the Snapdragon X Elite, but in a space constrained tablet, it doesn't really give you much better performance. At least the IPS screen on the Airbags Pro is really almost as good as OLEDs! The one thing I wish more OEMs that make these Surface Pro Clones would do is to use the 3:2 aspect ratio that the Surface Pro uses rather than 16:10. It just makes so much more sense for a tablet device; the weight distribution is just so much more manageable...

Hi Brad, did you find that the screen was warm on your palm when drawing? That's always bothered me with the Surface products and when I had an Asus Z13. Who wants to draw, journal, or take notes on a device thats getting warmer and warmer on the skin? I always figured it was the hot intel processor causing the extra heat, and I am curious if the Snapdragon machines have allowed for a cooler screen experience like on ipads and galaxy tabs. Keep up the great work, always enjoy your videos!
@davidemesina39094 ай бұрын
Hi, I recently got a Surface Pro with SP Elite... I drew something, although I didn't get it primarily for that. When you draw it gets a little warm, not like Intel processors but it certainly doesn't stay cold at all. I don't know about this Asus of course, but speaking of Snapdragon I noticed this, especially with some big drawing apps like Adobe Fresco, that needs full performance battery settings. Whereas if you write or do some small sketches on One Note, for example, it doesn't heat up at all. Wish It could helps.

The only affordable laptops and tablets that I know of are Samsung. Why? Because Samsung bought a large block of stock in Wacom, and they get the digitizers at a discount, if not at cost. The Wacom style EMR digitizers are expensive to produce, and Samsung can get them much cheaper through their connection with Wacom. Everyone else does not have access to a dedicated supply line like that, and I'm sure Samsung uses it's leverage to keep that situation going. There are other companies that make EMR digitizers, but you are not going to get the lower per-unit cost of mass production like Wacom has. So, others can use EMR digitizers, but it would raise the cost of the tablet/laptop to a price point most people wouldn't pay. Prices are already too high as it is. Hopefully, in time, we will see all that change, but not holding my breath.

A big advantage of this device over a traditional laptop is being able to take notes while in a class, lecture or business meeting.
