Maybe I got lucky: no deadzones, no broken components. I did install it like I would setup a pc: update everything step by step, remove bloatware, and use one game (SF6) to test the system. And be very tolerant to the jank of Windows. After one day, I was playing Street Fighter 6, Diablo 4, Forza Horizon 5, Cynerpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy. I also tested my XG Mobile (RTX3080) and that thing transforms the Ally in a full-on gaming pc! True game changer, insanity.

I have used the ROG Ally for a few days and it has been a great handheld PC. However, my biggest criticism is that it is buggy. The setup process was a bit tedious and some of the game launchers did not work right away. After a couple days, the launchers worked normally. If Asus can fix all the remaining bugs, they will have a winner on their hands. As with any gaming PC, you are going to have to be patient since it is running Windows.

Eh, no. "Throw away your Xbox"? Why would I? xS costed me a mere fraction of Ally. Actually, just checking the stores, I can get 3 xS for the price of the Deck and 5 xS for one Ally. Besides, Ally bears the same sin of Steam Deck devices. It's based on PC/XBOX big screen titles. These games are NOT designed for those devices with text in most games being simply unreadable on such a small screen. Switch is a much cheaper and better choice with games designed for it's size, or maybe get one of Retroid devices. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the idea of a powerful handheld that could run ALL games in 60 fps on the move and then 4K them via HDMI on a big screen. But right now, Deck and Ally are all too expensive toys that run PC games on a small screen while costing a fortune. I get a cheap xS to run games on a 65 inch TV, I get a cheap iPad to run games on the move, I get a not so cheap but still cheaper than most PC to run games in a PC way, I also game on my iPhone 14 Plus. I can connect my Xbox pad to any of these. The only thing I am missing is playing on one device, on the move, without using a pad. I cannot justify the expenditure. However, if you're eagle eyed, do not have any gaming devices, this could be your go to solution.

I get 15c lower with 70-80% fan Pc (personal computer) you have full access to windows, make it yours. Set it to fit the type of games you play, if you expect a stock pc to run good, you must be new.

I specifically wasn’t going to the 30w boost because that’s not a realistic look at a the portable handheld nature of this product. 30w is definitely something I’ll cover in the full review in the context of docking the Ally. @@apollo2728 honestly If it can run starfield with 30 fps or more (at 720p more than likely), then I see a compelling reason to get it over an Xbox, but there is a chance that it won't run as well as youd want, which would hurt. Don't get me wrong, I love mine, and I do think it will be able to play most games coming out this year, but we know developers haven't put as much time into pc ports. The ROG is also finicky and it will take some time before all the bugs are squashed. I do recommend it for sure, I just don't know that I would tell someone to get it over a console.

I still wanted more storage. I've now got a small type- C multi port adapter stuck to the back of the Ally (using a double sided sticky pad) The type-c multi port adapter plugs into the Ally's Type-C port and gives you x1 Type -C (for charging the Ally) x3 USB 3.2 ports ( 1x 4TB SSD on one port, two ports still free) X1 Micro SD slot (a second 1TB micro SD installed) x1 HDMI out Port (tested and working fine) 2TB internal SSD. x2 1TB Micro SD cards. x1 4TB external SSD 8TB total storage, HDMI out, Still allows full charging, two free USB 3.2 ports. Now I'm happy 🤪

@@ScatteredBrain I usually just add a 4TB external SSD via the type-C port but the steam deck and the Ally only have one Type-C port so the choice is restricted to either charging or 4TB extra storage, you can't do both at the same time without docking. Look how fast the Deck went from the best PC handheld two months ago to now people claiming it's trash. Microsoft wants to hold their monopoly on PC with Windows yet could care less about PC gamers.
