This is My recommendation list. Buy the Steam Deck oled if you want a comfortable(Very good battery life(3hours+ on average) and much better controls in my opinion as a Playstation and Xbox gamer)and okay portability as well as better support(software and community) in addition it is the best bang for the buck. Buy The Rog Ally if you want okayish battery life and the most optimized windows handheld(for now) and maximum portability. Buy the Legion Go if you have no qualms or worries and just wants the best performance and hardware without worrying about portability(it is not portable at all)

I personally own a legion go and have been using it every so often for about 4 months. A couple things either grazed over or not mentioned. The legion go has come a LONG way since launch with amazing software updates. Most notably, for me, was deadzone adjustments and configuring the stupid top buttons to start and select, which come naturally as the tdp screen and legion space hotkeys respectively, this update was huge, because i did not want to make a habit of pressing those bottom 2 buttons on the left stick for start and select, feels very unnatural. One thing you grazed over was the fact that you can detach both the left and right controller. This is the only handheld to do so. Yes there will be some wobble over time, but a couple pieces of electrical tape above and below the connector ports for the controllers on the device body fixes this issue, especially with the right one. It comes with VERY WELL MADE kickstand, which I personally use to flip over on my stomach on my bed, pillow under my arms, prop the legion up on the kickstand on the edge of my bed at a perfect angle, take the controllers off, and give myself the freedom of range of motion with wherever i want to rest my arms/hands to play. It took only about a day or 2 of consistent playing to get used to playing with the controllers off. Each controller has a separate individual battery. which lasts a LOOONGGG time. I played for about 2 hours yesterday and my controllers were only at around 95% from 100%. Another thing to think about is windows themselves are working on a new version of windows that is optimized and catered to windows handhelds, so if not being tech savvy is an issue, look out for when the new OS for the handhelds drop. If I think of anything else, I will come back to this comment and make an edit. Great video cyber. Hope my personal feedback with the legion go is useful for somebody. Cheers

@mravg798 ай бұрын
A bit of a different take, while battery game is important for me I already have consoles on which I can play new games, I also have an older laptop with gtx970m. I started as a PC gamer back in ‘92, I never fully ditched PC which means I have backlog of games (sales, bundles, giveaways [quite a lot of games, to be frank]) so Steam Deck (in my case OLED) is a great device to explore my backlog. I like the fact I can start a game in which single levels are short and just play a bit (not worrying much about battery life as for such games it is 5-8h examples LEGO builder’s journey - finished it good game, cloud gardens, baba is you). From older bigger titles I now play Batman Origins (around 5h with settings I have on a single battery charge). I also have newer games like The Ascent or GameDec. How I use the device is either during longer travels when I can pick a game I know battery will last me for a few hours, or for shorter sessions in the evening when I’m fine with 2h game time. while Desktop mode is usable with steam Deck controller it is still not optimized for it, but the experience is better than on windows. The gaming mode works for sure better than any windows handheld. What is more with dock and external display I also made deck my main PC (not for gaming but anything else) and it works for me just fine. Sure there are some limitations and I will need to dig deeper to go around them (for example system language change which requires removing RO from system, and the fact scripts needs to be prepared to change the language each time after SD OS update as it simply flashes the whole OS image and overrides used made changes to OS files).

Depends, with the Steam Deck you might run into problems with game compatibility especially those which are multiplayer & anti cheat enable. But it’s a solid gaming device from the moment you boot it up and just get straight into gaming. And with Linux as its operating system, it is a lot more optimal with battery depending on the game you play, you get about 2-3 hours with AAA games or 5-6 hours with indie games. On the other hand, with the the ally and legion go, you will get full game compatibility due to it’s using window as its operating system. The problem is window sucked in power consumption & optimisation because window was not met to be build to be as optimal for handheld. Another part you need to know is that you need it to treat it more of a computer, not everything is going to work with the controllers so be prepare to touch the screen a lot which something I would find annoying. Lastly competitive pricing with the cheapest model of the deck is at least 300$ brand new at some places while the ally and its window brothers are selling at 600$ and above. At the end of the day, you are the gamer, you choose what make it comfortable for you and what you truly want. Don’t get mix up into the Steam Deck Vs Ally stuffs blindly. That will be all from me, thanks you for reading.

First just wanna say, thank you for the informative videos. You give great context and relatable scenarios/preferences, which makes it easy for a buyer to put themselves in that situation. As it pertains to your video advice? Don’t change a thing with your format, it’s very concise. Don’t change the way you insert your opinions/experience, it’s helpful. THE ONE THING I can recommend, is to rewatch your videos again while editing before you post them. I’ve listened to a couple videos audio-only while I’m at work and I noticed a good handful of cuts that weren’t placed properly, some devices misnamed a few times which confused me while listening for a few seconds, until you elaborated. People hyper-obsess over clinical specs that may sound better on paper but your presentation is very practically minded and consumer realistic, and as I’m someone who has not researched this particular market AT ALL, your video single-handedly addresses pretty much all of my questions, and in a very pleasant way. Your audio is top tier and I wouldn’t change anything about it, as long as your workflow is comfortable and efficient for you. You have a great friendly voice and personality for this, which makes your video enjoyable and comfortable as a viewer, and I never got the urge to speed up or skim through. 14 seconds into your video I was hooked! I love how your workspace conveys in the video. I might suggest including a more prominent key light over your hand-cam angle, or alternatively inserting B-Roll shots of the product up close with a clean natural key light. That way you get fully accurate portrayal of texture/material/color shade each product is, while also getting the stylized accent lighting in the background. But that’s more nit-picky, since you do go into great detail about the physicality of each product. The only important suggestion I might make is think about including text/graphics on screen to have another form of feedback for the viewer. If I’m watching on the go in public it will be easier to track your main points, and as a visual learner it helps me in general to have the additional visual feedback to reinforce/go alongside the words you say that might get missed. Thank you for your video, and I’m looking forward to more! Liked and subbed 👍

The Legion Go does sound bad out of the box. But I was quite surprised by how much installing FXSound on it and just running the default profile helped on the sound. It basically just boosted the loudness without distorting or losing clarity. So I'll definitely recommend that. Especially since it's free. It won't get close to the other two because the speakers are still topfiring. But I will say that I think the sound on my Legion Go after installing FXSound is better than the sound on my Switch OLED even though that one has frontfacing speakers.
@UltimateGattai8 ай бұрын
I wish more phones would have front facing speakers. No matter what you do, top/bottom firing speakers just don't have the clarity and quality without jacking up the volume. When I saw the placement of the Steamdeck speakers I was thrilled, I can hear it so well even at lower volumes.

will need to stick with the steamdeck as its the only handheld with two good trackpads. I use custom configs for all my games and I like them more than the joysticks 80% of the time

I love the rog ally the only thing it really lacks is the battery I get about 1 hr of it for ratchet and clank rift… I always carry a portable charger with me tho so it’s not really a problem

Which one of these devices would be the best for someone in the Navy going on deployment where there will be no wifi/limited resources on the ship? A device where you can just download some games to pick up and olay off line?

Since you asked for tips, I'd just say try and work on the voice-over, not sure if you overlapped clips or stumbled with words but some things were repeated in the same sentence, and some of the script sounded wordy. Willing to bet someone else mentioned it but what the hell. Anyway great video besides, I've been a little unsure about the Ally as far as how it stands against competitors but you definitely helped change that!

I still have my OG deck from July 2022, and I've put in thousands of hours on it, not a bad device.

@Zenithity8 ай бұрын
@robifleming Got the legion go! I made the decision because 1. I got it for a steal but 2. The ROG Ally 2 is in the works and schedule to come out later in the year. Also, since it's windows it's great to take my work on the go.

The main job of VRR is to eliminate screen tearing when playing games. Tearing is a kind of visual glitch, where the image on your TV shudders mid-frame before carrying on as before. So i am thinking 40 50 60 fps would have 2 to 3 hz for everyone frame. So seems like vrr would be less needed. Seems more of a selling feature then a need. From what i seen you have to look at the corners to even see a bit of something. Feels like when people say deck not runing windows so you dont have to deal with updates and some fooling atound as they say. But just windows like your computer, no real big deal. Games are all made to run on windows in the first place. Any thoughts? or am i just a lost boy lol cheers

Love this review. Most of the reviews about these handheld gaming devices are that they only talk about how good they are on papers and not how good they actually are in real life situations. I need to know how realistically these devices perform so this review is really for me
@unkown34x337 ай бұрын
yep that's correct. steam deck was made to be an actually gaming handheld. the ally and Legion go, were meant to be a full PC that you can gaming and install anything on it. 3 devices created for different people.

What handheld should i get? I play games like terraria, stardew valley, teardown and a ton of simulator games

Steamdeck would be good for that because suspend/resume and longer battery life to play on the coutch or somethintg

I think as a content creator you've got a casual way of presenting your video which is great. Especially when people want to spend their own money on things, i've always prefered a more casual and slow approach to it. And i think you're presentation was perfect. Thumbs up man.

I think I am better off with a gaming laptop like the Rog Flow. I don't need a lot of power, I just want to play Final Fantasy XIV on the go. I don't like any of the controllers of the handheld PCs. I only plan to use my PS4 controller and my Sony headphones so all I need is just the tablet portion. I was considering the Legion Go, but it makes no sense to me when I could just get a bigger screen of a laptop.
@TheSixteen60Күн бұрын
I mostly would just go with the Steam Deck. Even the LCD version is still good and convenient as ever, without the hassle of Windows or driver updates.

The fact that you have extensive experience with these devices, and you own all three makes you super qualified to compare them. Love this video. I hope you make more. I'm strongly considering an Asus ROG Ally as a complete replacement to my old gaming pc, and will plan to use it docked 90% of the time and handheld 10% of the time (when travelling). Question on the ROG Ally: Can the battery life be extended to say.... 6-9 hours in a low powered mode for playing emulators (up to PS2 era)? This is a big deciding factor for me, since I really want a handheld device to run all my emulators and be able to play them on longer flights. I essentially want a device that can be used as a permanent replacement to my old gaming pc, but then when I travel, I can just undock it and play emulators for 6-9 hours while travelling.

Thank you for video! I have Legion Go and it awesome, but you're right about it's quality. I take it to any place I go in it's case and try not to drop it. But still there appeared a problem with M3 button (second Btn on right controller). It just stuck inside after press :c I'm glad that no bind is on it
@bigboyejonny92434 ай бұрын
Something that would be neat is if you could add all the things you mentioned about each handheld into a simple description. So if someone were to compare it for others, keep it written down for once they'd like to buy the product or whatever it may be used for. I'm trying to make some myself but I feel like I got some info wrong like misheard or what not. I don't think it'll take too long to do especially if you already have some points written down when you make these videos, although I don't know if it would be. Plus It'll probably help people with this or other videos you make. (Also I have an awful memory so having it noted down helps since i already forgot some things while writing this) Otherwise really informative and its nice knowing you actually used the devices for longer than a day like some peoples reviews go. Keep doing that. Not just test the devices out the box but a few months or a year after use so we will know about the longevity. I appreciate knowing that the rog ally doesn't have a good battery for AAA titles unlike the steam deck.

Great video. Very casual and nicely organized. Speaking objectively, my suggestion would be to tighten up your closing. Since it's so difficult to definitively answer the inevitable "which one is best" question, instead maybe call out which you'd keep if you could only keep one. By the end of the video I felt you'd established enough viewer credibility to conclude the presentation with your choice, rather than re-hash the "it depends" answer. It'll probably be easier to write too, since you can work backwards from your conclusion. Great job! Subbed. :)

The only advice i can think to offer is to maybe prepare a script. There were a few instances where it seemed like you got a little bit scattered or had to start over with what you're saying.

Show bench marks or edits in video that show what your saying. You stated Legion go when you meant Rog Ally, that can be confusing to some just listening or watching when you picked up the ally. Its always the little thing but your doing great
@hagenhallgard86198 ай бұрын
Totally agree with you about the performance of Rog Ally and Legion Go. I wanted to buy absolutely a Legion for the big screen but I made my research and I could smell that Rog Ally was having a higher performance despite the Legion Go has a better Ram, this happens especially for the emulation. Anyway this was confirmed when i tested it personally, I can't say why exactly but the Rog Ally push it really to the limit, maybe is just better optimized.

I absolutely love my Steam Deck OLED. I loved it so much that it led me to buy the ROG Ally because of FOMO. They are both awesome to be honest, but I returned the Ally because I think the Steam Deck OLED is just a bit more balanced and refined overall. It does what I want it to do and it does it very well. And I have my powerful desktop PC for anything else or for when I want that high end experience.
@Lugnut20028 ай бұрын
I'm 100% in agreement with you. I already have a $7,000 beast of a machine, crazily enough I somehow find myself spending more time on my Steam Deck OLED. If I feel the urge to Max out all the settings in my game my desktop PC is there ready to go, but there's just something about gaming in bed while my wife is watching her favorite TV shows.

I have had an laptop gamer and I hated it to play outside my house because A LOT of games aren’t offline friendly, so I don’t have issues with the battery life, I can play on my bed with my rog ally connected to the current. But dude, Steam and windows need to improve the offline play feature… maybe they simply don’t want to.

Great video. Was actually dwelling on this for a while. Ended up purchasing a Legion Go two weeks ago then returned it after owning it for a week. It was a great piece of hardware but still felt underpowered based on my usage and the grip of the controllers and back buttons simply was not comfortable. I’ve held all 3 of these devices before and I’d say the ASUS ROG Ally is the most comfortable to hold and use. I ended up just getting a Lenovo Legion gaming laptop with an RTX 4070

There are two times you confuser Ally with the Go. During Durability, you seemed to be holding the Ally but calling it the Go. Same issue when discussing the buttons but the other way round.
