Interesting, HardwareUnboxed reported very lousy VRM temps compared to the cheaper MSI B450 Tomahawk and AsRock B450 Gaming K4.

They weren't that different really, and the highs were not drastic, still easily sorted with some modding/extra air flow if it was an issue in any way, but it just is not.

Yeah, not very good. I had a gigabyte with the same VRM as the B450-F (smaller heatsink). Dropped the 1700X onto a B450M Mortar and dropped VRM temps by 20C. And it's $20 less than the b450-f, at least when I was looking

It's a great board in the range and doesn't draw loads of power, it also has probably the best features and performance of any B450 MB. VRAM temps run higher than others but not higher enough to think about when deciding. It will never be a problem unless you really, really stress the board for many hours constantly, plenty of airflow in your case and it will not ever be something you need to worry about. I don't know why he said a 2700x will stress it, it just will not from what I've learnt while researching it, again any really heavy stress over many hours will cause any issues and that's just VRAM temps up to 80+ degrees, still fine really. Many people run this board with a 2700x and 3200mhz DDR4 C16 RAM and that is what I will be doing myself, with an aftermarket cooler only because I have it already.

Thanks Tom, I always trust your reviews. Just bought one (£95) and a Ryzen 5 3600 (£170) to go with it as well as 16GB of Patriot DDR4 RAM (£65). Overall £330 for my new parts + my existing GTX 1070 all for running Warzone. My i7 3930k finally bricked after running 6 years at 4.4GHz stock volts, pretty sure she was a golden chip. She will be mounted on the wall as a memento piece.

So compared to X470-F, it loses 2 USB 3.1 gen 1 on the back for 2 USB 2.0, has max memory support of 3200Mhz, and slightly worse VRM which still handles 2700X fine. Other than that, the X470-F and B350-F look near identical. Same expansion slots, same audio, same SATA connections, same fan/RGB header count, same M.2 setup. All that for only 2/3rd the price. Am I missing something?

The two videos today and how similar the B450 counterparts are to the X470 ones made me think if Asus had overstocked the PCB of these boards and are trying to move some parts by putting on the cheaper chipset on them. All in all it is a great great bargain for us builders. This is the ATX B450 to go in my opinion right now.

Just picked this up for £114 from Amazon looked like a great board and this video proves it. Was this or the Asus Rog strix x470-f gaming and this was almost £100 cheaper so went for this! Almost all the same features too. Never gonna use the sLi or overclock too much if it all but looks like a proper bargain for that 2600x I've got going into it.

I bought this motherboard for $150, and I got the ASUS ROG Strix Impact for free. My country has higher prices (czech republic) I do not plan extreme overclocking, and with a good case aiflow will not be a problem with VRM temperatures.

A pity theres no USB 3.1 Gen 2 header to utilise the type c port on my Fractal Design R6 case. The type c on the rear i/O is only 3.1 aswell

@iShipZick i have gone back to the ASUS X470 ROG Crosshair VII Hero just i want the 7 2700X now to make the most of that board but they have shot up in price so i may end up with the 5 2600X ( £169.98 ) and the ASUS X470 ROG Crosshair VII Hero (£224,97 ) mem is a set of 32 gig 2400 for a bargin ( £117.00 ) so i would love to get a amd graix card but will use my ASus GTX 1070 non oc in a Fractal S case i will have all my parts friday so will be bizzy over the week end ... Hope you have fun makeing your rig i to went from intel back to AMD for me intel need to cut the price of there stuff and stop the we are bigger than you crap i would love it i we had more than 2 cpu and Gpu makes shame .. again hope you have a good time makeing your pc its the best part about it i think :) sorry or my typeing :)

I just bought this and 2600X with Phanteks Entho Pro M! Awesome setup!!! This is the only motherboard allowing you to run RAID 0 with 3 NVMe cards at full gen 3 x4 speeds! Amazing! (although you need an riser card to insert into the PCIe X4 Slot for 3rd M.2).

The MSI Gaming Pro Carbon is way better in terms of VRMs, and it has built in wifi/bluetooth. It's the board I wanted, but it's out of stock everywhere, and has been for weeks now. If you can get one for a reasonable price, it's the best B450 board out there. I ended up going with this Strix B450-F board because my local Microcenter didn't have either the MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon NOR the MSI B450 Tomahawk, which were my top choices. I'm just hoping that with decent case airflow and since I'm only using a Ryzen 2600, this board will be ok to OC on.

@@bananaFPS Not bad, my main problem is with my USB drivers not installed and usbs not working at all. Checked it out, no luck. But about the VRM temp, It really depends on your CPU and how many fans you want. Mine has around six, which seems a lot, but keeps my pc hushed, and sort of mimics the whole liquid cooling somewhat.

I didnt have any issues unless it was on an open bench with 0 airflow. In a normal case build it was fine. The ITX was a bit warmer but neither throttled if there was airflow in the case. Im not sure how he tested his so we could both be right.

Just watched hardware unboxed and this board is ok compared to the ASRock and Msi board even the ASRock itx board Vrms run cooler I'm kind of sad. Buildzoid nailed it right on the head and he wasn't even able to test it just on specs

Yes he did. His analysis on the gigabyte board was spot on when he said it would create missives amount of heat being that there is only one high side mosfet to every two low side and two chokes that run as one phase. It would have been cheaper and cooler to just make it a proper four phase.

I'm still deciding between this board and MSI's Pro Carbon but I currently own MSI's B350 SLI Krait Mobo and so far, I'm loving ASUS's BIOS/Software. But to answer your question, if you plan on overclocking or just care in general, the Tomahawk board has far better VRM thermals than this board. Check out HardwareUnboxed's video on it. It's titled *"B450 VRM Temp Test: Asus & Gigabyte Disappoint!"*
