Love the adjectives here. Must be a cultural thing. The temps considering the hardware inside were incredible, but throughout the video we hear things like "pretty decent" and "not bad". Cant imagine the adjectives that would be used for the other 99% of laptops that do a worse job lol.

I like the live format. It allows for a detailed look at the testing and gives the viewers a chance to ask questions during the stream. One thing that may make it better for those watching after the cast would be to have some chapters added. Obviously a live cast can go a million directions at any given time, but generalized chapters for certain tests and/or topics would helpful. On one other note, this may have already been a thing that I just missed, but if possible, if a live placeholder (scheduled cast) could be provided a day or even two in advance, this could give the viewers a chance to make sure they arrive for it. If there was a laptop I was super interested in and saw you were going to do a Live review, I would make sure I was in attendance. Though if you did that and I just didn't see it, then ignore me lol. But anyway, very cool cast. Look forward to seeing your next one!

I just bought one on ebay £3300. Really happy so far. Haven't tried to undervolt yet. Cinebemch r23 31600 turbo mode . But not a great score in time spy. And no coil whine😊. Done -80mv in bios armoury crate manual mode Time spy graphics score 22058 cpu score 18607 total score 21460, cinebench r23 about 33000

I am an architect and was confused between getting this laptop or the Legion pro 7i Gen 9, but I feel like I am leaning more towards this laptop because of the 18' screen and the color accuracy. I have a few questions: 1-What's your impressions on the overall build quality?. 2- I conduct lots of online meetings so I was wondering if the webcam looks good on softwares like Zoom or Microsoft meetings. 3- I don't usually move around with my laptop, but I may require to bring it to an office meeting every couple of weeks or so, do you feel it looks professional enough for a meeting room setting? also is the weight of the laptop tolerable to walk around with or will I require a trolley bag?. 4- Lastly, which laptop would you recommend? this one or the Legion pro 7i Gen 9?

Good to have a beautiful display. As long as its very color accurate, I still consider these portable desktop replacements and would have it hooked up to a equally nice monitor of my resolution choice.

Finally finished watching the live steam :) Awesome job. I did receive my Scar 18 and I have mixed feelings. First off I got it from Amazon. It appears to be used. The seal was broke the box was split and it had smudges on it :( I already contacted the seller. As for my initial first 24 hr opinion... The screen is a treat. I too tend to prefer a glossy screen, but the 1100 nits and mini led's do make a good impression. My time spy score was 19069 but I too was getting stuttering in all games. Turning off e cores in armory create and v-sync in the Nvidia control panel seemed to fix the problem However, after I work out the RMA what I believe to be a renewed unit I am not sure if I will repurchase or spend a little more for the Blade 16 oled. Will you be reviewing the blade anytime soon? Thanks

My 2 month old laptop Asus Rog Strix Scar 18 4080 was on stand by , suddenly sparks started going out of fans and white smoke smell like a gun powder and it was dead. I sent it back to the store and wait for a reply. Something was terribly wrong with that expensive machine. It is under warranty so I am waiting to see what was wrong. Laptop performed well until now and I was using it for editing work , not gaming. Have anyone had a similar experience?

One thing I dont like at all is how every single damn review on youtube has to have the latest and most powerful gpu rtx 4090. Not a single video abt a lower tier 4080 considering the huge 900$ price gap between the 2 configurations, and also the fact that the upgrade is certainly not worth and most people would go with the rtx 4080 either way.

I don’t get how your temperatures are so low at the desktop in turbo mode. I’m in quiet mode on the desktop and it’s bouncing from 57to 84 cpu and gpu idle at 48 to 55. Is something wrong with my unit?

Literally just got the laptop back from RMA yesterday. They replaced the motherboard and the temps are worse than when I sent it in. It gets really annoying in a silent room.

​@@YOUNG3VITYsorry to hear that you are having such a headache with it. Before you lose an arm and a leg selling it on Ebay let's see if we can fix it. I see them on ebay with the 4090 for $3500 plus you get hit with that crazy 15% ebay fees so all said and done you could end up $800 or more in the hole... The first thing I would want to rule out is bad contact between the CPU and GPU dies and the heatsink. Open up HWinfo 64 and see what the temperature spread is between CPU cores. Anything 10 degrees or higher would suggest to me there is not great uniform contact. The stock TIM is liquid metal, which is great if there is good contact but if it's not then it will be bad. Liquid metal is much thinner than old school paste. If this is the case you can either RMA it again, repaste it with something like Gelid GC Extreme, or lower the power being used. You are doing that by eliminating the turbo boost. You can also reduce the number of CPU cores being used. For gaming shutting off the efficiency cores is preferable. I think, from memory, you can undervolt too. Try starting off with a -0.040v undervolt. I would also be inclined to open up task manager and see what is taking up the CPU cycles and thus using the power. You might have some rogue program causing it. Isolate the culprit and stop it from loading up at start up. Also check for a Bios update as it might have been addressed there. Those, or the fans not working well, are the only causes that I can think of.

No, but the MSI Titan 18 I have does have a 4k. You can use a 4k monitor at home of course and just use the laptop screen when on the move or a different room.

The 1600p on a 18" screen has the same if not more ppi than a 27" 4k monitor hence it looks just as good.

The watercooled notebooks have 20% more MC and 10% SC performance and they are silent. This machine is so loud, don’t like it.

But the water cooling only comes on at 87c for the lenovo 9i, so the machine runs hot with loud fan noise, meaning the water cooling is a bit of a poor implementation.

Good video as always stephen. Sucks the 4090m can't even push the full 175w most of the time due to dynamic boost. And even at 175w its barely pushing 2.1ghz. Clearly it needed 250w to get decent clocks under load and shame on nvidia for blocking that. The laptop is good, the gpu just REALLY sucks. So bad its not even funny. Even the 16gb of vram will fall short for real professional work that people will buy these machines for. Every other aspect of the laptop is good except the GPU because nvidia decided to ruin it.

My Clevo 17 " laptop weighs 11 lbs and the brick is about 2 lbs and I used to carry that plus a change of clothes in that back pack. Sure, it was heavy but not too bad. This Asus is only 7 lbs. There used to be 15" machines that used to weigh that...
